kyla woods, what is the latest? kyla: good morning as you get ready to head outside, 275 at route 4, there was an accident. it looks like they may be clearing out of the way, this emergency vehicles. traffic on the ramp is able to move past. we did have some blockage on the ramp. this is 275 at route 4, backup to hamilton. almost 30 minutes on the stretch of 275 from 74 jarell 4. you can see traffic picking up the southbound direction out of butler county. 15 to 20 minutes, maybe 20 minutes in some spots. 71 in montgomery road through the area near kenwood, traffic slowdown both northbound and southbound in that area.

275 has been a close spot for quite some time now. a lot of pretreatment went into the overnight area but they had to redo that work at the snow is out on the ground. you have to make way for them as well. 275 is very very slow from route 32 up to i-71. the 471 corridor is very slow northbound. southbound looks to be moving along pretty well but that extra time is necessary. if you are using 471, 7175 at kyle lane. this morning, it will be a little bit slower with that snow there on the ground. we are seeing very slow conditions and that' s what you will see as you continue to head outside. no need to fly through or hop on the shoulder. take your time as you get outside and give yourself plenty of extra time. >> 7:01 right now, we are

to let you know that road crews are working on both sides of the river watching the snow to help you get where you are going. >> crews were out on local streets retreating the snow before it hits. they are continuing our team coverage with what has been done so far. >> the road crews have been hard at work. we' ve seen oh. crews coming along interstate 71. we know that crews are dedicated in northern kentucky, all over the three kentucky' s entity on. while officially right now is interstate 71 downtown. we have been seeing traffic really slowing down here past the reading road and even past the exit sign. i' m much or what is going on but drivers have really started to slow down. piercing brake lights all up and down northbound 71. i don' t know what' s going on but i can tell you this is a sign that drivers are seeing.

are seeing accumulation or some type of flood something building up on the interstates of that is even more reason to take it slow need to go. the road crews are working as well so we need to leave them plenty as space. another perspective here, some of the side streets we are looking at in cincinnati the end indiana -- cincinnati and indiana. this is a pretty good amount of snow we are seeing here. it' s not clear what the streets are going to look like where you live but you can pretty much expect that you will walk out into snow-covered roads. leave early and leave pretty at -- plenty of space. >> we want another first-hand

s get right to andrew setters leading the way. what are you seeing? >> we are seeing more slush and snow on the roads in union centre boulevard in butler county and we are beginning to see people slip and slide. we saw someone try to make a turn on a slight grade at a traffic light and their wheels were spinning because they could not get the traction they need. we have reached that point of the morning where the road conditions -- i do not expect them to get any better, i only expect them to deteriorate. the road crews will have a much slower time of it trying to make their way around to plow and do what they can to get the roads cleaned up. we hit that critical point in the morning where as the snow continues to fall the roads will not get better until we get over this hump of the morning rush.

site streets and main streets will be in better shape, but they will definitely be slow this morning. >> the cold snap that we have been experiencing is causing a lot of trouble for drivers. aaa has been very busy. local aaa crews have responded to more than 2000 calls from stranded motorists since the arctic air arrived sunday afternoon. >> people running out of gas in their driveway from loading the car warm-up, locking their keys in the vehicle from letting the car warm-up. >> over the last three weeks, aaa has changed over 800 car batteries. make she check your battery as well as your tires which can go flat due to the low-pressure and the cold. >> the cold can polls -- can pose serious health hazards.

many people need to make plans for child care or who like staying in bed later, cincinnati state opens at 11:00. there are more than 200 school closures and delays this morning. lakota, fairfield, canton decided to close. when did woodson middleton are also closed. pay close attention to those delays. many of them are turning into closures as we head to the midmorning and sing the heaviest snowfall starting to come down. we will have a full listing on our website and scrolling at the bottom of the screen, be sure to send you -- send in your weather pictures as well. what to check with her on the current weather situation. >> lots of blue on the radar. we have snow coating area roads. it will be with us through at least 9:00 this morning. we have about two more hours of snowfall at this intensity

out of town. you will notice some spots where the blue is deeper. those are the areas that have heavier snowfall rates from middleton to waynesboro and springboro. area south of wilmington right along 68 and down toward fayetteville seeing heavier snow. let' s look at the southern pushes of claremont county. all the way down through augusta . on the wide view, we are looking to the back edge and it is rolling through indianapolis we will be watching the back edge of the snow showers between 9:00 a.m. and noon in cincinnati. until then it could come down at a decent clip, our snowfall rates tracker showing heavier spots indicating a half inch per hour possible. do the math. the snow continues through 9:00 a.m. and we should be on track for that one to two inch snowfall total.

weatherbug camera. in warren county, this is what it looks like downtown right now and you can to the snow coating the roads but not too many on the roadways. heavier snow showers between now and 9:00 a.m.. totally over night noon and most places picking up between one and two inches of snow. make it to 26 degrees. tomorrow there is a little bit of a breather and the potential is there for a storm system to hit us friday but it may also miss us. it' s too early to tell. enjoy your one snow day or delay if you have it, and we will keep an eye on that forecast for friday. >> we have our work cut out for us. we are seeing snow-covered roadways and we have had a few accidents pop up. that is the ramp from titusville

once you get on their we are good to go. it is the southbound traffic coming out of butler county making your way toward the eye to 75 interchange where we are seeing heavier conditions. and with that snow covering the roadways you really just the that extra time as you had outside. here is a look around greater cincinnati right now. we have an accident in this area as you travel eastbound. so you do want to give yourself plenty of time. no matter where you are headed out you will need maybe 15 to 25 extra minutes. to get there this morning. 75, north and southbound. spots. it' s even a bit slower than what we would typically see. and east and west bound to conditions typically get dicey precipitation outside. we are sing a few slide offs here and there but really nothing major so there is good

as you continue your travels around the tri-state we had an accident just pop up near north bend so it is very slow. really along the entire stretch from the indiana state line over to the eye 70 corridor door. here is a look at 71-75. that entire stretch from the interchange and even south near donaldson. you will run into the split. we were seeing some really white snow coverage along those lanes headed northbound. you can see it there off to the shoulder with those lanes getting a clear path. >> oh. crews still have quite a bit of work as they make their way out there to get those roads completely clear and get them resell today for that pretreatment overnight. we' ll check again in a few minutes with extended coverage. >> if you do have to go out and drive on a snow-covered road, aaa is giving us striving tips

you. clear the snow from your entire lights. make sure your headlights are on. your car and others. to stop. try to avoid 10 -- changing lanes because snow and ice can build up between the lanes and pay special attention to hills. if you had out this morning, aaa is offering tips to keep your car going. running for about 15 minutes today and here are some of the warning signs. when you' you hear a grinding, clicking or ignition on. but she could have an issue with your headlights dimming if you are idling but they brighten when revving the engine and the

than three years old. >> as we have been saying all morning long, you need to be ready for snow on the road and to go a little slower. at 5:00 now with the latest on road conditions. where are you, what are you seeing? >> we are on 740 seven and butler county and we are seeing very slow conditions. i don' t know if you can see down the hill ahead of us but it is a line of brake lights of people heading this direction and it is slow going. the volume of traffic on the road, the volume of precipitation we have been dealing with us morning with slow on the road, slush on the road. slowing people down, we are in this. period of time where people are trying to get to work and get the kids to school if they have to go to school today and with so many cars on the road, it means the road crews cannot make

conditions are deteriorating with people going slow and i expect it will stay this way for quite a while. >> sidestreets and interstates can be very dicey. >> dan griffin' s outside right now giving us a look at both of these areas. >> good morning. road crews have been working very hard since 7:00 last night in cincinnati and about midnight in northern kentucky. interstate 71 is very interesting to me. i' m not sure if drivers are having trouble getting traction, or if there is something up ahead slowing them down. but they are coming almost to a. every so often and we are seeing brake lights just illuminate northbound 71. that is something to keep in mind as you head where you need to go this morning. be prepared for moments like this we have to come to a sudden stop and go pretty slow.

staying earlier in the newscast and be aware of changing conditions because it appears that every so often we see car suddenly slow down and stop here on northbound 71. i know andrew was saying the road crews are out there probably struggling to keep up with the snow because of the traffic and the increase of people on the roads, i can see that happening here so if you see them, make sure you are leaving plenty of space for them. the road crews are working hard to clear the sidestreets of what you' ll probably find this morning are sidestreets that look more like this. we are seeing a lot of snow-covered sidestreets this is sentinel street downtown. cars are coming by every so often but it is not having much of an impact on those conditions right now. we will obviously continue to follow these traffic conditions minute by minute as we move this morning and bring you up-to-date with what we see here. for now we are live here. >> let'

>> still snowing. bubbly will be all the way through 9:00. you will notice that it is blue for everybody but in some spots, that blue is just a little bit deeper indicating some heavier snowfall rates through highland county and northern adams county from hillsboro right along the 68 corridor down toward georgetown and another heavier badge where you are hitting 675 closer to springboro. it is also coming down good through southeastern indiana. that' s why if you notice the snowfall rate picking up. 6:00 to 9:00 a.m. was the heaviest timeframe for snow and that is what we are looking at. the back edge of snowfall activity rolling through indianapolis right now by the time we hit noon. let' s take a closer look at that timeline for today.

the study and moderate snow will be lightening up and as you head toward 11:00, we watch that back edge of approach the 275 loop and by the time we hit noon, the snow showers are pre-much done . we are watching that back edge moved to the eastern town as we approach 1:00 and 2:00. it is over for most of us by the time we hit lunchtime but snowfall totals at times half an inch per hour and you will end up right in that range we were expecting for the start. one to two inch snowfall by noon. as we get to the second part of the day there are a couple of lingering flurries. on friday, that one still with many questions. it is certainly causing issues on the road.

>> we are seeing some emergency does because we do have accidents popping up. here is a we have a long 275 that route four. it is in the clearing faces, but you can see those emergency vehicle still present. this is in those in eastbound lanes as you head toward i-75. 275 here at hamilton giving you a look at the backup. still seeing a lot of snow coverage. you are able to see some of the snow coverage out there. out of butler county, here is a look at the slow traffic in allen as you make your way from 129 down toward the lateral. that' s what we usually give you a travel time for. you' re probably up near 30

plenty of extra time needed as morning. we are still trying to get that work done but they do have quite a bit of work cut out for them as they make their way out and try to get treatment back on those roads after the hours. two senate 75 is pretty light in both directions, but you can really get a good view of that snow coverage. the lanes are able to make their way through as more cars get outside and get going. northbound 471 is very slow baby downtown. there is a look at some of your area roadways. >> the hamilton county sheriff' s office has just acquired a level one snow emergency. >> this means the roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. nearly 300 school closures and delays will come in this

this is what you will see if you will search for your local school district. >> if you take the bus to work, metro will update its detour hotline all day. you can call a phone number on your screen from 5:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. anytime for the most current detour information. metro reminds writers if your stop is on a hill for the bus at the top or bottom of the hill. >> when temperatures drop this low, shelters are critical for the homeless. the facility has got to bed -- gotten beds and it will be open through february. this facility is on scott street in covington and offers an enjoy snacks. gets

but split into the wall probably about a mile or two back. the road conditions are deteriorating but are still drivable if you take your time and use caution. that' s the big issue in this is you want to go the appropriate speed for the road conditions. if i could wave a magic wand like houdini would have a much easier time on it or if could stop the snow falling things would improve but that' s the problem you have right now as snow continues to fall in a lot of areas and the road crews are we' re seeing this salt truck here and people are keeping their distance but whatever this truck has been able to treat the shape. it' s a matter of too much traffic for these drivers to do their job. >> continuing our team coverage right now we have dan griffin

>> he is in the downtown area where conditions are deteriorating depending on where you are. >> it really does depend where you are. >> on sentinel street you would be driving on a completely covered road and looking at it taking, where have the crews been? they have been working very hard. they' ve been out since 7:00 in cincinnati and started at about midnight. oh. crews have been taking care of interstate 71 here and mother nature has been packing a punch here. she' s been dropping a lot of snow. cars here have been definitely slowing down here. you can tell the roads are slick and slushy so it definitely makes sense to slow down and keep the distance. our friends out there headed to work and school and doing a good job. northbound 71 is here as well, very slow drivers are hitting their breaks every so often headed toward our station. they are taking it slow and

a notch or if they' re having trouble with traction there but the one thing to keep in mind as you move through the morning is leaving space for the road crews as they are there trying to hit the roads and scrape them to get them clear for you. it' s very important to keep everybody safe out there. for now we are live downtown. >> we went to check in with mandy now and -- randy and get the latest. >> it' s getting harder and harder to pinpoint where the hefty a snow is falling because everyone is seeing a moderate snowfall at this point. as we look at the last hour, we watch that modern snow band roll through 275 and hitting are highland county. belfast on to winchester currently seeing the snow pick up a little bit in intensity there. let' indiana.

rounds of heavier snow. back right along 74 near base phil, there was already an inch and a half to two inches on the road 1.5 hours ago. the back edge is now rolling through downtown indianapolis so it' s the like it will snow all day long at just so happens that the heaviest snow is coinciding with the heaviest traveled time period of the morning. back toward indy, they are finally on the back edge of things and it should be approaching the southeastern indiana communities by the time we get to the 10:00 hour. >> for the eastern communities run around lunchtime. as you look at the timeline for today, taking it down for you, one to two inches of snowfall.

16 degrees at the moment. in the single digits. if your going to be out there, stuck or sliding off the road a cold air. bundle up between 9:00 a.m. and push through greater cincinnati. as you head into the afternoon two, but we are not talking accumulating snow. for today, looking at that round of snow and the potential is there again on friday but that system is too early to call. if you are on social media today, if you see a map today it is probably a mild projection and that will change 12 times before we hit friday. cincinnati is on the fringe . we either get hit with a good bit of snow were it misses us. it' s way too early to talk totals. it'

keeping our eye on once we are done with the morning snowfall for today. kyla woods, you have been very busy tracking the latest conditions, what is going on? >> we have quite a bit of snow on our roadways. not only on the side streets where you will see even more coverage, quite a bit of packing snow on the side streets sing a little bit less traction than the interstates and main thoroughfares but crews really them. they have to get act out and retreat these roadways. if you' re traveling near grand, it' s 75 at mitchell north and southbound rolling along as you can see, quite a bit of snow coverage there as well. continuing to look around greater cincinnati, it' s very slow at burlington and that will continue all the way into cincinnati. folks are slowing down this morning which is what we recommend. on the eastern side of our

kellogg. that is slow as well as near five-mile and as you continue on that southeastern edge of the 275 loop, here is a look at kellogg and 131 if you' re making your way continuing northbound along i-75. you can see a lot of rake lights headed that way. we just seeing traffic moving at a slow pace where we have these types of road conditions. you will need that extra time as you had outside this morning. both sides of the interstate at a slow crawl. we are seeing it hit in all directions. not as we typically see it headed inbound but north and southbound is very slow. 75 at western hills and the same thing here along the corridor. that extra time -- we have not seen any major issues this

we are giving ourselves plenty of time and slowing down once you get out there. >> we have no choice. let' s get a closer look. kentucky transportation on the road with a check at how the local roads are shaping up this morning. >> it sounds like you have a lot of trucks and plenty of salt to go around. x we do. the intensity and the timing of the snow is making it a challenge, but we will keep at it all morning. >> let' s talk about the priorities. tell us how you decide where you will go first, what to treat first, and had you get neighborhoods and residents side streets cleared off. >> we focus on the main corridor which is the interstate and the four-lane highways. then we go to our secondary routes. we really hit the priorities hard.

we will continue running throughout the morning until we find the pavement. >> what are you hearing about how it is going on the hill? >> we could look right outside our window at the office. it is a slow go heading northbound but that is typical on the morning commute. southbound traffic looks like it' s moving ok but it will be slow going this morning because the intensity of the snow with a lot of traffic out there which makes it hard for our trucks to get to it. >> this is our first good snowfall of the winter season, let' s talk about the rules of the road for those folks who have not got out the road yet. what should they remember when writing near some of your vehicles? >> allow a safe distance. leave several seconds behind so that you have enough time to stop.

a pretty good alternative to sitting in the traffic out there on the interstate. nancy talked about it is that we have all talked about it this morning. this is a situation where the snow coming in is what makes it difficult. earlier this morning , we were driving around on snow-covered roads and we had no problem going where we need to go. as the morning has gone on and more people get out and get moving, they are slowing down. traffic is slowing down and slowing down the progress of the salt trucks as they make their rounds this morning. be patient, careful and the snow is not coming down at a tremendous pace, not anywhere i have been this morning. it' s definitely something you can manage to drive in. it' s just enough -- just a matter of having enough time to

>> let' s check in with randy and see the latest on the snowfall. >> we were talking one to two inches of snow. watching the back edges rolled through india. i was checking in on their snowfall totals. for us as it rolls through, it is pretty similar. we' re seeing a little bit of a break in the action as the back edge starts to creep between indiana and southeastern indiana. it' s currently coming down from wilmington to hillsboro in the northern portions of highland county. that burst of snow rolls from west to east, we still have a couple hours to go. futurecast is showing the timeline with the package of the

10:00, approaching downtown by the eastern communities by the afternoon. what to give you the latest snowfall projections as the system moves in and out of the area. one to two inches on average but you may notice a couple of spots in and through southeastern indiana, slightly above the two you have about 1.5 hours of study snow showers before we in our direction. i lunchtime, we are done with this but getting to and from work and school this morning has proven an issue. let' s get the latest with kyla woods. >> we are seeing quite a bit of snow coverage on the roadways. here is a look at the kentucky and indiana line if you' re headed near the kerala bridge. we will need that extra time. we can see all that snow and the travel lanes able to eat through.
