mark: now on news 5 today, flint' s water crisis has impacted the nation. but could it happen here? the move by city officials to make sure that answer is a "no." lisa: a shocking revelation at a local college about one of their own. the employee behind bars this morning. mark: and a tragic bus crash in hyde park leaves one person dead. what we' ve learned overnight, coming up in a live report. m mark hayes. lisa: i' m lisa cooney. your headlines are straight ahead. we start with a check of the forecast. randi: things will be getting better. it is thursday and the weekend is almost here. do not get scared. the radar is picking up some snow showers. it is still dry at the surface and not making it to the ground. we do not have flurries from this snow showers. they are evaporating before they hit the surface. everybody starting out in the 20' s. 26 degrees right now at cvg. 8:00 a.m. it will be cool and

we cloud back up midafternoon. rain showers from 5:00, 6:00, and transitioning to flurries after 8:00 p.m. tonight. mark: new details this morning on a tragic bus crash at hyde park square. lisa: a woman and her father were hit as they were walking across the street. wlwt news 5' s dan griffin is live with what we' ve learned overnight. dan? dan: this was a father- daughter day in high park. they were hit by a bus. cincinnati police say stephen frank, who was 73 years old, died after he was hit by the bus. his daughter, emily frank, who' s 41 years old, is at uc medical center with serious injuries. she is in stable condition after surgery last night.

crossing erie avenue and edwards 51 crosstown bus hit them. there were no passengers on the bus when this happened, but the driver was also taken to the hospital due to shock. >> it is very rare for an accident of this nature to occur with metro, and so there are to occur. s license requirements, federal requirements, the driver will be sent to get drug and alcohol testing to make sure there was no impairment. there will be a full investigation from our perspective, risk management, as well as the police. so we' ll wait at this point to determine exactly what happened. our thoughts and prayers with the families. dan: cincinnati police say excessive speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in this. the bus has cameras on it that will be part of the investigation moving forward. live in hyde park, dan griffin,

mark: new this morning, cincinnati police are investigating a stabbing in winton terrace. police say someone stabbed a man in the chest around 3:00 this morning during a party. someone then dropped off the victim that mercy health and then was flown to uc medical center. no word on his condition. and so far, no arrests. lisa: authorities have now identifed the pilot of the single-engine aircraft that crashed in xenia. the state highway patrol says 33-year-old joel lansford from fairborn was alone in the plane when it went down on tuesday evening at the lewis a. jackson regional airport in greene county. he died at the scene. authorities are investigating what caused the crash, which . the safety director for thomas more college is behind bars this morning. mark: he is indicted on 36 counts of possessing child pornography. news 5' s emily wood has the

>> you think that you know somebody and you really don' t. emily: students at thomas more college know robert marshall as the head of campus safety, but say they never really knew him personally. and the allegations against him s not really like it scares me. t feel unsafe or anything. >> it just blows our minds that it actually happens, that someone that would do that, actually really gross and wrong, like that. especially with children being involved. makes it worse. emily: police say all 36 images were found on marshall' s home computer in covington. assistant chief brian steffen says based on a complaint, detectives took marshall' s computer back in january of 2014. he says marshall used a software designed to remove pornographic material, which is why it took so long to find. >> it' s very tough, and when digital data is deleted or wiped

even tougher for us. emily: police also made it clear there was no evidence marshall was creating this pornography, and there was never any criminal activity on his devices at thomas more. >> had we thought that there was an actual threat to children or whether they be in the city of covington or whether they be in the campus of thomas more college, we would have reacted much much sooner. mark: marshall is currently in the kenton county jail on a $25,000 bond. he will be arraigned on monday and will he remain on administrative leave. lisa: a 14-year-old is now facing jail time after he has been found guilty of raping another teenager at a party. the incident happened after a springboro high school football game in september. a young girl' s mother was reportedly out of town, and the teenager decided to throw a party. there was marijuana and alcohol involved. that' s when police say a girl who was too drunk to walk or

>> there were some reports that he indicated that she wanted to do this because he was hot. to me, that was about as offensive of a comment you could make. lisa: the 14-year-old will be sentenced this coming wednesday. mark: two middletown parents charged with endangering their eight children are free this morning. anthony and katina gevedon were in court yesterday, accused of jeopardizing the health and well-being of their kids. police say they found filthy and unsafe living conditions at the home on tytus avenue and that the place was covered in trash, cat feces, with very little food. police say some of the children are now with a grandmother. some with children' s services. plenty of questions remain this morning in a wrong-way crash that shut down the highway in hebron yesterday. lisa: now we have new video of the accident. this is cruiser cam video from a boone county sheriff' s deputy. as the deputy drives up to the scene, you can see a pickup truck on fire. investigators say the pickup was spun backwards by a car going

before hitting the truck, deputies say danielle honshell clipped a jeep, and flying glass hit a passenger in an suv. as the video goes on, you can see heavy smoke coming from the pickup. two deputies had to pull the driver out of the truck. in total, four people went to the hospital with injuries. no word yet on their conditions. investigators are still trying to figure out why the 22-year-old was going the wrong way. mark: the water crisis in flint, michigan, has ignited an emotional spark across the nation, including here in cincinnati. the mayor, the city manager, and the head of cincinnati water works have now met in an effort to make sure the public gets all the facts. the estimated 16,000 lines in homes in the greater are made of lead. now, cincinnati water works says although current treatment procedures minimize the lead coming from these lines, they still pose a risk. councilman chris smitherman

two 10-year-old students were injured. a state police bus inspector says the bus passed an inspection friday, and the driver had no recent violations. mark: cincinnati' s police chief and city council joined the cincinnati board of education to address safety concerns at the city' s schools. one of the issues discussed was resource officers and their roles in the schools in order to keep kids safe and deal with bullying before it escalates. cincinnati' s police chief also discussed active shooter response training with cincinnati school leaders and the training available to students and teachers. as the reds set out on the caravan tours, fans are getting good news about one important player. lisa: wlwt news 5' s george vogel has the details in your morning sports. >> just ready to go.

not a big deal and not expecting accumulations. friday, the sunshine returns. temperatures a little on the cooler side. 44 degrees today. tonight, 26 and maybe a couple of flurries around. saturday, 53. 54 on monday with light rain possible through the day. lisa: a cincinnati police officer is indicted on a felony theft charge. city manager says officer joseph simpson was working an off-duty restaurant detail when the alleged theft happen. simpson has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the criminal investigation. mark: a big step forward for an ohio bill that would divert federal funding away from planned parenthood. wednesday night the bill cleared the senate. the measure would restrict $1.3

going to organizations that perform or promote abortions. the house passed an earlier version but will need to pass the changes. lisa: instead of fighting with his republican rivals, donald trump is at war with fox news, opting to not attend the network' s debate tonight. however, despite the debate boycott, trump went on fox news last night to explain his decision. they agreed to a mutual truce. donald trump says he blames fox news for the issue. bill: i don' t think not showing up for the debate tomorrow night is good for america. mr. trump: this is much tougher than doing the debate with megyn kelly. lisa: instead of the fox news debate, trump say he' ll hold an event tonight to raise money for veterans. mark: the other eight republican candidates leading the polls are

prime-time debate. that includes ted cruz, marco rubio, ben carson, jeb bush, and ohio governor john kasich. rand paul, who was left out of the last prime-time debate, is back in tonight because of his standing in the most recent polls in iowa. the iowa caucuses take place on monday. a portion of state route 48 in warren county will be renamed to honor a soldier who died in afghanistan in 2012. the portion of state route 48 between i-71 and state route 38 will be named the "sergeant first class bobby lee estle memorial highway." the lebanon man died in combat just 10 days before he was set to come home from the war zone. he served two tours in iraq and two tours in afghanistan. >> cincinnati' s certified most accurate forecast. randi: we will get more sunshine going today and temperatures should make it into the mid 40' s.

it did yesterday. after 8:00, rain showers will change over to a couple of flurries. 5:00 this evening, the rain showers are at our doorstep to the north. after 8:00 or so, we switch over to a couple of flurries. but then the sunshine returns and temperatures jump substantially for the weekend. 55 on sunday. monday and tuesday looking on the wetter end of things and maybe some rumbles of thunder on tuesday before the temperatures drop on wednesday. kyla: i hadn' t seen wednesday so far this week. we will enjoy those warmer days.
