lisa: dreams of local high school athletes coming to today. the exciting day for stars getting ready to play on the next level. > from cincinnati' s wlwt, leading the way, this is wlwt news 5 today. lisa: heavy rain created problems overnight. this is what it looks like in only. -- this is what columbia parkway looks like. high water created the closure . some mud also made it over the wall near the stretch which is typical. but we can report it is all clear this morning. 6:00 a.m on your wednesday. good morning to you. mark: randi is here to tell us if we will see any more of the rough stuff this morning. randi: there is some lingering ranger eastern communities but as far as heavy rainfall goes, additional flood warnings, that is pretty much out of here. that is good news. watching out for standing water. we will cover the latest on that

you can see all are major highways clear of any sort of study or heavy rain. the rain shower line continues to push through portions of highland county, adams county still dealing with steady rain. west union. 62 is th e divider line between areas dealing with steady rain in places that are trying out. this line will continue to skew to the east over the next hour. as we had the 7:00 hour, most places are done with the rain. we did see a good bit of it, mostly averaging an inch or an inch and a half. since midnight. it is 6:00 a.m. we have had an inch of rain in sardinia. loveland. covington, 3/4 of an inch. near cbg, .7 of an inch. we have flood advisories issues. they marched across the yard. some spot still under a flood advisory. dealing with the rain in adams

you will notice this bright green patch. that is a flood warning for mill creek at glendale milford road. near the ups building. that is where we are seeing some flooding this morning. that flood warning is in effect right now until 2:30. currently watching that rain rolls to the east. notice the temperature -- very close to 60. we were at 60 at midnight. temperatures slide down into the mid-50' s the story. hang out through the early afternoon. it will be windy to the day. then temperatures take another dip south right around the evening commute as we dip into the upper 40' s spirit by 8:00, down to 40 degrees. temperatures will fall today. it will stay windy throughout the afternoon. this morning your biggest problem is will be avoiding areas that may be closed due to high water. kyla woods has the latest. kyla: some of our usual suspects along kellogg and sutton. they' ve lifted the closures but you will see some of the high

some of our neighborhoods, you may run into high water. you do not want to try to drive through those areas. we remind you of that when we are dealing with this type of conditions. we do have an accident with an overturned tractor-trailer east of owens -- along u.s. 50 near route 133. directions. the truck was leaking fuel. until they get that cleared, both lanes of us.s. 50 will be close. we are keeping an i on that. that is an accident, high water on the western communities. these miami river road between harrison and gum run road, near 4 interchange. here is a look at 74. where all lanes are moving along pretty well. for our travel, great start. areas of high water and the incident near owens -- we are money. lisa: 6:03. it is a big day for high school athletes.

mark: andrew setters, one of the high schools planning big ceremonies for this morning. good morning. andrew: there are still months left in the school year but for seniors, student athletes, today is kind of like graduation day and they commit to go on to play college ball. they will do it here at elder high school, have a ceremony later this morning. whether they are dreaming of playing sports of the next level whether they are hoping to make college more affordable come a today is the next step for high school student athletes good to commit to colleges and many of those colleges, the scholarship dollars for student athletes. the local recruit getting the most attention -- prince -- the offensive lineman has been heavily recruited. one of the state' s top recruits is tommy kramer. he will announce today he will play for notre dame. he is one of eight football players signing today along with joey' s a votto for the panthers soccer team. a lot of schools are taking part

the date near appeared one of the passengers took this snapchat video while on the backseat of a rental car. kentucky state police were chasing the group on 75 southbound. the chase started in lincoln heights when undercover narcotics officers tried to stop the car for a lane violation. the chase reached speeds as high as 90 miles an hour before the driver was finally stopped in harrison. >> these were some bad individuals, and our officers handle this very professionally. it came to a safe conclusion. miriah: -- is facing felony charges in ohio and kentucky. the two passengers were both arrested on outstanding warrants with gang ties. mark: an indiana county prosecutor is requesting special investigations involving county employees. the judge to bring in outside prosecutors

mark: celebrating progress in cincinnati. reflect on the 15th anniversary of the cincinnati -- some call those four days of violence a riot. some call it a protest. the violence began after the death of 19-year-old timothy thomas who was shot by police. the conversation last night focused on positive change since the riots. hard. and all facets of the community. and we came out with something that was really positive. >> there has been a lot of hard work by the community, by many citizens, by the police department, by city government. a tremendous thing to look back upon this and reflect on the lessons learned. mark: participants say the conversation continues to work and shows much remains to be said and done. lisa: the indiana state legislator won' t vote on a new

seeing for the most part. decent start. we are dealing with some areas closures. continue to cover those. we have a new accident as well on dalton highway is you head towards the 71-75 aa rea. as you head on to the northbound lanes. speaking of northbound, taking a look 471, 64 miles an hour as you head from the 275 interchange. things looking good. still very clear. both north and southbound. a quick six minutes to get over to the daniel carter beard bridge. our interstate travel, we have not seen any closures but those areas of high water along east miami river road. right near the 274 5 and i-74 interchange. you may see i walk -- high water. lisa: we are checking top stories right now.

in new town, mississippi, confirmed tornado caused trees to collapse on homes, schools and roads. some highways are blocked, and emergency crews cannot get through. mark: another funnel cloud touchdown in alabama' s. storm chasers caught this one last night. a sheriff says that storms are damaging homes and not down trees and causing power outages. several counties are opening community safe rooms overnight. lisa: an emergency water landing caught on camera in hawaii to watch this. the pilot was experiencing mechanical problems and had to come down in a lagoon. authorities say the pilot was unable to get the plane' s landing gear down. so he landed in the water. mark: the sully sullinberger thing. the carolina panthers are already in california gearing up for this sunday' s super bowl game.

the help of others. kyla: if you ever been to a panthers game, chances are you' ve seen this fan. he is a die-hard panthers fan, known to most as cat man. this is gregory good. he has never missed a game, including the ones played in clemson, before bank of america stadium was even finished. good says as this amazing panthers season kept going, fans asked if he would head over to the super bowl. he didn' t think he would have the money and has since started up a go-fund-me page. he says the amount of support he' s already received in overwhelming. >> it makes me feel warm and responsible. it' s like what spider-man said -- "with great power comes great responsibility." and with a great show of love also comes a great show of responsibility back to reciprocate that love. the go-fund-me page has already racked up $7300. he' s going to need a lot of that for his ticket. the cheapest tickets are going for $3000 on resale. that is his ticket and he has to make his travel and his food.

cleared through indy. when the rain ends, given those couple hours, by 8:00, we will see a good bit of sunshine. right now rain showers lingering for highland county and brown county into bracken, mason. it is coming down just a little bit heavier in eastern portions of adams county. you can see from people' s, sinking spring east -- to pe ebles. that is continue to push is and become less and less of a problem. flood advisories also pushing east. early this morning, nearly the entire area under a flooded pfizer. now only in spots that are dealing with the rain. that means watch out for areas of flooded out roadways. or standing water. also, notice that bright green section. that is actually a flood warning for the mill creek at glendale milford. in that area, we are dealing with some flooding issues.

that is tomorrow night between midnight and 5:00 a.m. here is a look at 75 and vine. things moving along its be. all of our interstate travel off to a great start. it is those side streets and high water areas that we have to keep a close eye on. we will check again in a few minutes. lisa: it is 6:25. a house oversight committee scheduled to hold a hearing in washington on the save drinking water act in flint, michigan. the tap water was contaminated with lead after the source switched from detroit to the flint river. not properly treated and caused lead from pipes to seep into the michigan governor is water bill for flint residents. the governor was to dedicate $30 million in the state' s funding for these reimbursements.

issue but overnight we had heavy rainfall. many places picking up an inch and some spots two inches of total rain along with gusty winds. weather-wise at the moment, most places are getting in on the back edge of the rain. we have portions of highland county, brown county and adams county steadier rain showers continuing down into kentucky and mason and robertson county. you can see the back. basically right along 68 into brown county. and will continue to push east over the next half hour. as we roll into 7:00, it is eastern parts of adams county that we will still be dealing with lingering rain. the flood advisory overnight issued for the entire area. only spots that are still dealing with steady rain fall under that flood advisory from hillsboro south toward maysville. this just means you had heavy rain overnight. rain is still falling. you may have some issues and high water. notice this limegreen at the

that is millcreek at glendale milford. it is running high in there is flooding along canal road. that is expected to stay on to the flood warning until the early afternoon. temperature was, sitting near 60. we will see temperatures slide into the mid-50' s too much of the day and then fall again as we head toward the evening commute. at 8:00, everybody is done with the rain and the sunshine is returning. 54 degrees noon. sunny, windy the temperature in the low to mid 50' s. towards 4:00, clouds will start to roll back and from the north and the temperature slide. for the evening commute, most places end up in the upper 40' s. a threat for flurries tonight. we will talk about that in a couple of minutes. let' s get you to those high water closures. kyla: east miami river road we are dealing with closures near gum run road. for those of you need near the 275 and i-74 interchange coming we want to watch for that.

reopened at 5:30. you can expect to see some ongoing high water concerns in the areas parts of the area. as you head into work this morning. similar issues took place in another normal trouble spot near coney island on sutton road in anderson township. high water shut down the road for a short time overnight. police reopened the road later as the water subsided. remember, you can get the latest weather alerts and information on the wlwt mobile news app. new this morning, woodlawn police are trying to track down this man. 53-year-old victor turner went missing from the goodwill industries on springfield pike. he was last seen yesterday at 8:30. turner is a black described as 5' 9" and 190 pounds. he was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black and white shirt, and a white coat. he has been diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenic and requires medication.

investigators say drug paraphernalia was found in her suv after the accident. lisa: the race for the white house has moved to new hampshire. we have the latest on the campaign trail. miriah: bernie sanders and ted cruz look like they have momentum. sanders has found he can hang with hillary clinton after the tight race in iowa. now he has a strong lead in the new hampshire polls. cruz is campaigning is a winner after his victory on monday but he will have more competition. not only is trump leading the polls but many of the other republican candidates got a head start in new hampshire after giving up on iowa. that includes john kasich who has been campaigning there nonstop. gov. kasich: whatever happens in this race, i' m going to be fine because i' ve given it my best and i know it' s out of my hands at the end of the day. but it' s in your hands, so if i don' t win, it' s your fault. miriah: kasich hopes to reach

primary on tuesday. he is expected to hit that goal on friday. lisa: following a second-place finish donald trump is reflecting on his strategy in the hawkeye state. trump spoke to reporters in new hampshire and said his decision to skip the last republican debate may have been the difference in iowa. trump said he disappointed some voters, but he insists he would not change what he did. mr. trump: if i had to do it again, i would do the exact same thing, and you know why? because i raised $6 million for the vets in one hour. so if i took a second place over first place and could give the vets $6 million, i would do that all day long. lisa: trump also said he did not do enough campaigning in iowa to win. mark: questions surrounding a streetcar. the agency responsible for naming rights says it can generate $550,000 a year.

randi: the strong winds will stick around. expect winds around 20 miles an hour through the afternoon. you can see the back edge of the rain rolling through greater cincinnati, downtown, our easter community still dealing with it. the heavy rain this morning centralize overtop of eastern ohio and west virginia. cloudy skies linger for most of us. clouds breaking up. north of 74. still watching some rain showers from hillsboro right along 62 and areas is. adams county, mason county -- spots still dealing with rain showers. as we approach 7:00 and head between 7:00 and 8:00, this back edge rolls out. everyone is rain free. we still have that lingering flood advisory for highland county through mason county. most have pickup and injure engine a half. some places that still have steady rain, the potential to see additional high water on area roadways. concern for the next hour or so for those communities.
