lisa: scary moments for westwood and cheviot residents after a car crash ends with police shooting and killing the armed driver. mark: police say the suspect pointed a gun at officers. wlwt news 5' s andrew setters is leading the way with the investigation. andrew? andrew: this deadly officer involved shooting will go through several reviews. it is standard anytime there is an officer involved shooting. the investigation is just beginning into what happened leading up to a man being shot dead by officers. police were called to the scene in westwood for a report of a man, possibly intoxicated, waving a gun. the same man apparently crashed his pick-up nearby, then was approached by police. according to police, he first complied with officers then pulled a gun. a total of three officers were involved and are now on administrative leave. we talked to a man who called police, and he walked us through some of what he saw. >> i called 911 and told them said he was leaving the scene, about that time a cop car pulled

s just thankful her daughter' s alive. a mount healthy man now behind bars after police say he pointed a fake gun at officers. court documents show officers were investigating an alleged assault along adams road late tuesday night. when christopher laugle grabbed the fake gun that was on a side table and pointed it at officers. police disarmed the 26-year-old and arrested him. laugle is charged with menacing. mark: a driver slams into the side of a home in delhi township. it happened on the 1100 block of tahoe terrace last night. police think the driver suffered a medical condition behind the wheel causing the crash. the driver was taken the hospital with a minor injury. there were several people at home at the time. but no one was hurt. under fire and under investigation the metropolitan , sewer district is under even more scrutiny. hamilton county commissioners zeroed in on what they see as unaccountable waste. vowing to end it somehow. wlwt news 5' s miriah turner is at the live alert desk with

miriah: hamilton county commissioners are accusing the metropolitan sewer district of squandering about a half billion dollars of potential overruns or added expenditures to the ratepayers. one project in south fairmount could be overbuilt by $60 million. and over 10 years the msd allegedly paid $1,000 a month for bad data on the lick run project. however msd director gerald checco disputes all of this saying it' s standards are not only sound they' re among the best in the nation. checco also says stricter standards favored by the county. would actually add costs and further burden ratepayers. with a state investigation of msd spending practices already underway by auditor david yost. s imperative to finally get this right. commissioners voted unanimously to require the msd to supplement its modeling standards with ones they consider stricter and better. however the chasm between the city and the county over how well the sewer district is run continues to widen.

the incident spilled over into cheviot when that man later crashed his truck into a utility pole. he was actually shot and killed in cheviot by cincinnati officers. police say he first cooperated after that crash, but then police say he pulled a gun from his waistband. officers perceived a threat and s the last thing you want to do. nobody wants goes to work with the intention of having to use their fire arm. but if you' re faced with a situation where it' s a life or death situation, certainly, that' s an option. andrew: the area where this happened is pretty busy. the crash happened at harrison and boudinot, and the man was shot in the 3300 block of harrison. for people who live and work in the area, this type of run-in between a man with a gun and police is concerning. >> it was pretty scary. my son was just silent in the back, and he' s not really one to be quiet so he was really kind , of scared. and with it being so close to ask, it was just like, ok, it' s time to get home. i' m still kind of shaken from it.

mark: thank you. this month high infant mortality -- rates in greater cincinnati are still a prominent issue, and this month one local group is working to raise awareness of a factor that is often times overlooked. lisa: the amount of time in between pregnancies can have a big impact on the health of babies. miriah turner joins us now with more. miriah: this is the same group that came forward with information on safe sleeping for infants and the effects of smoking mothers. but their latest campaign is a topic that' s often not discussed, but can be detrimental to the health of both mom and baby. the local health group cradle cincinnati recommends at least one year between the birth of one child and the conception of the next for the healthiest pregnancies. in hamilton county, nearly 1 in 5 pregnancies are spaced less than one year a part. that amounts to almost 20% of pregnancies from 2009 to 2013. our local rates are also significantly higher than the national average with infant mortality rates in the bottom

and our preterm birth rate earning a failing grade from the march of dimes. to help change the trend, cradle cincinnati launched a campaign during the month of february to bring awareness to the situation and educate families on the importance of spacing. it' s the time you have the child again, so it' between deliveries. miriah: local awareness of this issue is extremely low, only a little over 35% of families knew that timing could be a factor in the health of their pregnancies. according to recent surveys, cradle cincinnati believes education is the key to change. and through their latest campaign, they' re hoping to make a difference. mark: thank you. an update on just how much it' s expected to cost to operate the streetcar for its first year. the southwest ohio regional transit authority says the estimated expense of the streetcar is close to $3.5 million, and the anticipated revenue is $618,000. sorta is asking the city for $2.8 million in funding for the

lisa: the world cube association is used when it comes to the rubik' s cube. kyla woods gives us a look at a top 10 world champ. kyla: we are always fascinated when we see this. the person were talking about is sreeram venkatarao, who' s a junior at mason high school. the impressive part -- not only can he solve the puzzle at a lightning speed, he does it blind folded. he is an overachiever. two weeks ago in dixon illinois, he set a north american record in his division at 25.19 seconds, a world rank of seven. in another category where he solves multiple rubik' s cubes, sreeram is fourth in the world. the mason junior tells us the challenge has not only taught him to be a problem solver when it comes to the cube, but in life as a whole. doing at least 20 blind solves a day, sreeram has been working on this skill daily for eight years. his next competition is in michigan on the 27th, and he'
