the cincinnati man was not hurt but likely going too fast. new this morning, a house damaged by fire in independence. this happened just before midnight on flintrock bluff. in the garage and spread to other parts of the house. four people were inside when this broke out, and everyone made it out of the house. destroyed. investigators are still working to determine the cause. police find a body in the little miami river. on new year' s day, police say 27-year-old aaron berns jumped into the river after setting a duplex on fire, then running away from deputies. family and friends have not stopped searching for aaron since then. saturday, berns' body was found in the river near loveland. bern' s family say he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder after serving two tours in iraq. the family says they decided to hold the vigil even after the devastating news because they

fighting ptsd. >> we just felt very strongly that either the army or someone has to do something to prepare our young men to really face civilian life and make that transition and be better mark: bern' s family said he had a tough childhood, too. but he loved judo, martial arts, and serving his country. the owner of a popular chili restaurant is being remembered today. lisa: crowds of people were in attendance for chris beltsos' visitation sunday. wlwt news 5' s dan griffin is live with how he' s being remembered. good morning. dan: good morning. there was a long line yesterday for his visitation. he died from cancer. he was the cofounder of price hill chili. dozens upon dozens of people lined up at meyer and geiser funeral home to pay their respects. according to his obituary, beltsos leaves behind a wife and children.

dalton is expected to be arraigned on murder charges today. lisa: the supreme court hears cases today for the first time since the death of associate justice antonin scalia. the court is now evenly split ideologically among its eight members. president obama plans to nominate a replacement, over the objection of republicans who say that job should fall to his successor. mark: a door-to-door dash to the checkered flag ended in an historic photo finish at the daytona 500 on sunday. with one lap to go, denny hamlin wedged between matt kenseth and martin truex jr. in what people are calling a hail mary move. hamlin and truex raced to the finish line. after further review, a photo finish determined that hamlin edged out truex by one one hundredth of a second, the closest finish in daytona 500 history. doesn' t get any closer than that. just when you thought you could take that tax refund you' re getting and splurge on something you want, along comes an idea on what you really need to do with

lisa: wlwt news 5' s miriah turner is here now with some tips on how to put that money to good use. miriah: if tempted to use your 2015 tax refund to indulge yourself, you are not alone. the irs is on pace to match or exceed last year' s 77 million refund checks that averaged about $2800 apiece. however, financial advisors say it doesn' t take much imagination to figure out what you should do with your refund. here' s some pointers for you. thousands of people in the u.s. suffer from credit card debt, so financial advisors say that' s where it should go first. or if you racked up some student loans while getting that degree, you can use the money to pay a good chunk of it off. another recommendation, putting refund money into an emergency fund that reduces the potential for more debt. you could also put that money toward making your future a little easier by putting it into a retirement account. and don' t forget, the date to submit your tax return has been moved back a few days. this year' s deadline falls on april 18.

lisa: a class-action lawsuit has been filed against amc theatres, claiming the chain makes it hard for blind people to enjoy going to the movies. those listed in the lawsuit say the audio-description devices are often unavailable, have a low battery, or play the wrong audio descriptions. the lawsuit also claims amc staff sometimes hand blind customers devices intended for those who are deaf. amc has not publically responded to the lawsuit. mark: netflix knows it only has seconds before you move on to something else. so it' s rolled out a multimillion-dollar recommendation system for its new global audience. before, recommendations were based on where you lived, but going forward, recommendations will be based on the viewing habits of customers from around the world. netflix' s aim is to give you exactly what you want to watch when you want to watch it. >> cincinnati' s certified most accurate forecast.

lisa: good morning and welcome back on a monday. we will find out about the forecast with randi. but first, teams of climbers a good cause. association hosted its fight for air climb sunday. kyla: the annual event took place at the carew tower in downtown. hundreds of people huffed and puffed their way to healthier lungs. the annual fight for air climb

tower. racers ran or walked all 45 stories and the ones taking on the vertical mile climbed the 804 steps more than 10 times. the fight for air supports the american lung association, and it attracts many people who lost family members to lung disease. >> i' ve watched what happens with people that don' t take care of themselves. so i climb the stairs for them. and i climb the stairs for me, to keep me as healthy as possible. i want my lungs to outlive me. kyla: she had a great spirit. we' re still waiting on the total from this year' s climb. the american lung association says all the money raised will stay in cincinnati. mark? mark: thank you. an interesting concept in over-the-rhine, bringing fitness and brewing together. yes, beer. moerlein' s taproom has started offering free yoga classes at its moore street location. after the workout, participants can then get a few drinks in the

road and mount hope road. a 16-year-old girl was driving, and a 15-year-old girl was also in the car. police say the driver lost control, hit a guard rail, and then hit a utility pole. both girls were taken to the hospital, and they are expected to be ok. happening today, two suspects expected in court after a police chase on the west side. police say 24-year-old iesha harris and 23-year-old darius loveless assaulted a woman in colerain township, and then driving. harris got behind the wheel and did not stop when police caught up. he eventually hit stop sticks cruiser. they are both expected to be arraigned later this morning. lisa: a michigan man police say went on a shooting rampage will be arraigned today on murder and attempted murder charges. this man police say opened fire at three different locations saturday night shooting eight wlwt news 5' s miriah turner is

the latest on the investigation. miriah, good morning. miriah: just over 24 hours after the first shots were fired, people gathered at a special church service to mourn and pray sunday. police are saying the violence shown saturday seems to be random. police have identified the gunman as 45-year-old jason dalton. authorities say the shootings began just before 6:00 at an apartment complex. the victim there, a mother of three, is now in serious condition. the shooting spree continued for more than four hours at a car dealership and a restaurant parking lot. six people were killed, including high school student tyler smith and his father, who were targeted while shopping for a new car. maryjoe nye and her sister-in-law mary nye also killed. they had spent the evening at a play. seven hours after the first shots were fired, police apprehended jason dalton without incident. a 14-year-old girl is also in critical condition from the shooting this morning, originally thought to be dead. police say dalton had ties to the community and did not have a criminal record. uber confirmed sunday that the

from the live alert desk, i' m miriah turner. mark: an international conference on the death penalty begins today in rome. pope francis is calling for an end to the death penalty. he told a crowd in st. peter' s square sunday, "you shall not kill" applies to the guilty, as well. the pope asked catholic politicians to put a moratorium on executions during the year of mercy, which ends in november. closer to home, the community will say goodbye today to a familiar west side business owner. price hill chili owner chris beltsos' funeral will take place today. sunday, we found a long line of mourners outside the meyer and geiser funeral home waiting to pay their respects. beltsos died of cancer at the age of 47. lisa: reds players are reporting early in goodyear, including jay bruce. the reds right fielder is getting to work as trade rumors continue to swirl. the latest reports say the orioles want to bring number 32

legislation, but the law will prevent more than $1 million in funding from the state health department from going to the nonprofit to fund programs such as hiv testing, health screenings, and prevention of violence against women. the bill was swiftly denounced by planned parenthood president cecile richards. in a statement, richards says, this legislation will have devastating consequences for women across ohio. many republicans have said planned parenthood should be defunded after controversial videos featuring group officials videos featuring group officials purportedly discussing the sale of fetal tissue surfaced last summer. about a month ago, a texas investigation into planned parenthood resulted in an indictment of the organization' s accusers instead of the group. mark? mark: thank you. in commitment 2016 news, governor john kasich is headed to virginia today ahead of tomorrow' s nevada caucuses. the republican presidential candidate will host three campaign events starting this morning at a town hall at george mason university. kasich also planned an afternoon event in charlottesville,

at virginia commonwealth university in richmond tonight. his appearances come two days after south carolina' s primaries where he finished in a distant fifth among other republican candidates. lisa: meanwhile, donnie wahlberg thinks marco rubio has the right stuff. new kids on the block member donnie wahlberg has officially endorsed rubio for president. first, in a statement, then later appearing with the gop candidate at a north las vegas rally. tomorrow, nevada holds its republican caucuses. wahlberg told the crowd he' s never voted for a republican before but rubio changed his , mind. it' s an issue that' s become a reoccurring problem in modern times. we are talking about school threats. we' ve reported on dozens of them locally in the last year alone. mark: wlwt news 5' s sheree paolello joins us now with a look at how schools go about informing parents of the threats. sheree: keeping you in the loop when your child' s safety is on the line. when someone threatens your child' s school with violence, how quickly do you find out?
