we are seeing great conditions to start us out on this friday. we hope that case remains. lisa: 5:02 this morning, breaking news this morning. we now know the name of the gunman who went on a shooting spree in south central kansas yesterday. mark: officials are identifying him as 38-year-old cedric ford. authorities say the shootings happened in and around the excel industries plant in the town of hesston. police have identified ford as an employee for excel he was later killed by authorities. the ceo of excel industries issued a statement overnight saying, we' re really saddened by this horrific event and our heart goes out to all of our they also confirmed the shooter ll stay on top of this story both on air and on the wlwt mobile app. lisa: three 18-year-olds sentenced to jail for sex crimes on a 15-year-old. prosecutors say 18-year-olds william berry, tyler couch, and dashay schimmel sexually abused a 15-year-old girl in greendale motel last may. investigators say the group drank alcohol and smoked

acts with the girl. the 3 boys were charged with rape. but they reached a deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct. they will be in prison for two >> it' s very important that can to make sure kids don' t engage in this sort of drinking and drug use. lisa: the teenagers have been ordered not to have contact with the victim or her family. prosecutors also say they will have to register as sex offenders for the next decade. mark: an adams county high school senior is charged with kidnapping and raping a 15-year-old. 18-year-old denny blanton is accused of forcing a 15-year-old girl he didn' t know, into his vehicle. driving her to a secluded area in oliver township, and raping her on monday. blanton will be back in court next week. but could be indicted by a grand jury before then. no motive yet in the machete attack at a columbus area

t found any evidence suggesting the suspect mohamed barry was orchestrated terrorism. the 30-year-old attacker. is from the west african nation guinea. barry injured four people before he was shot and killed by police. new information or at investigation into the va hospital in cincinnati and claims of mismanagement. the department of veterans affairs is taking action against two top leaders after its investigation. the v.a. says the director of ohio' s regional network, jack hetrick is retiring after his proposed removal. while the acting chief of staff of the cincinnati v.a. hospital. doctor barbara temeck. has been suspended from her current duties pending further action. within minutes of the announcement ohio congressman , brad wenstrup who serves on the house committee on veterans affairs said veterans, are thankful that the department of veterans affairs acted to dismiss a leader who has lost the trust of those he serves. reforming the cincinnati v.a. is the focus of a townhall meeting later today.

cedric ford. four people, including ford are dead. 14 others were hurt. authorities said the shootings were at a manufacturing plant where the gunman was employed, in the rosso random shootings in the plant' s parking lot, and two other locations. witnesses describe the scene as horrifying. >> it didn' t' matter who it was. he had no specific target. he just -- shooting anyone who got in his way. >> we was already looking at him and he yelled and just went doot, doot, doot and then entered the building. mark: the sheriff says ford was killed by law enforcement. authorities have not yet revealed a motive, but say ford was employed at the plant. back here at home, the growing heroin epidemic has local leaders scrambling to try to stop the deadly trend. lisa: and today, we' ll learn how local law enforcement plan to tackle the problem. wlwt news 5' s dan griffin is leading the way in springfield township with the story. dan, good morning. dan the hamilton county sheriff : will be discussing the issue with other people and

some deadly crashes involving suspected heroin or drug use and some of it happening earlier this week. it was earlier this week, a rollover crash killed a driver and ejected and injured a woman and baby on i-275 in northern kentucky. investigators found needles in the car and track marks on the driver. the sheriff says it' s important they keep partnering with the public to get tips and information about drug trafficking and overdoses. we also expect to hear more about the successes of the heroin tip billboards and narcan. the hamilton county sheriff says they plan to also share more information about how businesses can get involved and how forums and education can also make a big impact. we will be following this story throughout the day and bring it to you here. live in springfield township, dan griffin, wlwt news 5. lisa: a northern kentucky police department already targeting heroin and the users behind the wheel. fort thomas police created a new heroin interdiction team to stop drugged drivers. the team started last week patrolling throughout the city 275 and 471.

wrote 32 drug charges, 19 related to heroin. the results are six times higher than the traditional police patrols, and the effort shows no signs of slowing down. >> affluent communities, like t , exempt from it. no race, religion, gender, nothing is exempt. heroin has -- it does not discriminate. lisa: the extra effort is in response to the recent rise in heroin overdoses on the highway, including the fatal crash on 275 eastbound monday that killed one man and put two people, including a seven-month-old baby boy, in critical condition. mark: 16 people charged in a three-year drug investigation centered in harrison. police say the group was trafficking crystal meth between a gang in georgia, an outlaw motorcycle club, and people living in harrison. the investigation, which began in april 2012, showed the kilos of meth were being brought to harrison monthly. the 16 people are facing drug trafficking and drug possession

happening today, the man charged with the murder of a middletown mother will go in front of a judge. dayton police arrested 34-year-old brandon carr wednesday. brittany russell was found shot dead in her car two weeks ago in dayton with her six-month-old baby in the back seat. the baby was not harmed. carr will be arraigned this afternoon. lisa: a high-stakes night for the republican presidential contenders. the five gop candidates sparred on a texas debate stage, their final showdown before super tuesday. last night' s debate was dominated by fiery exchanges between front runner donald trump and his closest rival marco rubio. rubio in particular unleashed a series of attacks on trump not seen to date in the campaign, ripping trump' s hiring practices, legal battles, lack of details on his health care plan, and mocking his self-named trump university. the candidates also clashed over the hot topic of immigration. >> you' re the only person on this stage who' s ever been fined for hiring people to work on your projects illegally >> no, i' m the only one on this
