it is pretty minimal. dry weather to start the day. the clouds will be rolling in ahead of the rain. this is a very large storm system. severe weather down to the gulf coast states. probably the easiest part of the storm. the chance for some thunder and lightning. we' re with a marginal threat for severe weather. a slight risk in our extreme south and eastern communities. there is a chance for some damaging wind through the early to mid afternoon hours. right now temperatures in the upper 30' s near 40 degrees. by noon the rain is on our doorstep. through the afternoon, showers

lisa: there could be a court appearance for the boy accused of carrying out the shooting. wlwt news 5' s dan griffin was live at the scene from the very beginning. he' s at butler county juvenile court with a breakdown of where the investigation stands this morning. dan? dan: there were raw emotions yesterday, certainly raw emotions today. he could face a judge as early as this morning. we' re talking about 14-year-old james austin hancock. we' re told he' s a student at madison junior-senior high school and also on the wrestling team. investigators say he fired shots with a .38-calibur gun in the cafeteria yesterday morning, hitting 15-year-old cameron smith and 14-year-old cooper caffrey. caffrey is also on the wrestling team. we also know two others were also hurt by shrapnel or while running from the gunfire. all are expected to make full recoveries without surgery. say they won' t forget these moments, saying they feel scarred. >> be hunkered down in shelter

the building is now secure. police are now sweeping the building. the suspect is in custody. the injured are on their way to the hospital. nothing life-threatening. dan: butler county investigators say hancock ran from the scene, dropping the gun, but was caught shortly after. he was then arrested. he faces a long list of charges including attempted murder, felonious assault, and terroristic threatening, all felony juvenile charges. we' ll be here all morning finding out what will happen next in court. we are live in hamilton, dan griffin, wlwt news 5. lisa: thank you. it was an emotional day for both students and their parents, as many mothers and fathers rushed to the school trying to make sure their kids were ok. >> you just can' t believe it. because you see it on the news. it happens to other people, but it doesn' t happen to us because

i just can' t imagine. lisa: two seperate vigils took place in middletown last night with crowds coming out to show support to the madision school district. dozens of people came together outside middletown high school and prayed. they said they had to remain vigilent when danger can reach yoru front door at any moment. mark: countless people and politicians are sending their township, as they cope with this tragedy. ohio governor john kasich was briefed on the attack while at a he offered his support to the families. gov. kasich: obviously it is a tragedy, particularly coming in a school in butler county. we don' t know what' s behind it, yet i am very happy there is not going to be any loss of life. mark: ohio state representative tim derickson out of oxford is also passing along his thoughts and prayers to the students, teachers, and faculty. he went on to say, "during times like this, it' s critical that the community comes together and that families support one another."

madison local schools are moving forward with plans to help the the district' s latest facebook post says -- "staff will report and together, we will begin to put plans in place, including on-site counseling, to support our students when we return to school." extra-curricular activities are also cancelled. mark: the clermont county narcotics unit arrests a man accused of distributing heroin in new richmond and surrounding areas. 34-year-old charles crossty is now charged with one count of trafficking in heroin, a fourth-degree felony. officials say they intercepted 25 grams of heroin and 20 grams of crack cocaine in the arrest. also making the headlines this morning, the heroin epidemic in greater cincinnati. the hamilton county sheriff is the public' s help. university of cincinnati' s blue ash campus. the forum goes from 6:00 until 8:00 at the muntz hall auditorium. mark: also happening today, the

for a kentucky police chief and one of his officers. the trial was delayed last month. carroll county chief michael willhoite and officer ronald dickow are accused of taking a mentally ill inmate to the bus station instead of a treatment facility. investigators say the two bought adam horine a one-way ticket to florida and then drove him to louisville to board the bus. lisa: time to check the morning commute on this tuesday. kyla: we are doing pretty well so far. we have some construction to talk about. you are probably very familiar with it. this week you will see most of those closures taking place off of the interstate. some of the lane restrictions will be on 75 on the ramp onto hopple. keep that in mind if you travel through cap washington this week. things are looking good north

or lost during the voting process today, super tuesday can reveal which candidates have the best chance at winning their party' s nod for president. 12 states and the territory of american samoa will hold their republican and/or democratic primaries or caucuses today. lisa: donald trump when not be in any the states holding primaries or caucuses today. he is making his way to ohio. john london report live from this event later today. virginia police officer ashley guindon will be laid to rest today. her body was escorted by dozens of police cars and motorcycles last night to a chapel which is where her funeral service will be held at noon tomorrow. the prince william county officer was shot and killed in the line of duty last saturday. it was guindon' s first day on patrol. she and two other officers were responding to a domestic

shooter ronald hamilton fired his gun and shot all three officers. guindon died from her injuries. mark: closer to home, a 14-year-old behind bars this morning in butler county after a school shooting at madison junior senior high school. officials say 14-year-old james austin hancock opened fire during lunch in the cafeteria just after 11:00 yesterday morning. two students were shot. two others were injured by shrapnel. hancock is facing charges of attempted murder, assault, inducing panic and making terrorist threats. the 14-year-old could make his first court appearance this morning. the four students injured are expected to be ok. the two boys shot, cameron smith and cooper caffrey, are at miami valley hospital in dayton with nonlife-threatening injuries. lisa: the other students injured are brant murray and katherine doucette. wlwt news 5' s andrew setters is at the madison school this morning, where teachers will be returning to work this morning, but not the students. good morning.

teachers will be coming back today, getting ready for the return of the students. they' ll be making plans for how they' ll handle the arrival of the students. we heard last night that some teachers were reaching out and calling students at home to see how they were doing. we also got a chance to talk to the mother of katherine doucette one of victims. , she says shrapnel hit her daughter in the knee. stephanie doucette says the hardest part yesterday was trying to get to her daughter at the school. she couldn' t get here fast enough. she' s still in shock that something like this is happening in this community. >> she' s still shocked it happend. she' s gone to madison since kindergarten and she' s known these kids, even the shooter. she knows and it' s hard to think that, you know, her biggest question is, why? >> scared. i thought i was going to die.

the severe weather will stay to the south. we will see some rain and maybe some thunder and lightning. we take a look at the radar, we are starting out with clear skies. temperature-wise, most places in the upper 30' s. 40 degrees in florence. 39 in springboro. temperatures climb to 50 or so by lunchtime. we will call a wet lion for today. about 51 degrees today at noon. flakes of snow. temperatures are well above freezing so i do not expect it to stick. showers and maybe a rumble of thunder.

lisa: good morning and welcome back on your tuesday. a live look at the bridge. we' ll check the big picture just ahead. it' s that time of year again for graeter' s to reveal their mystery flavor. mark: we got a special delivery on monday and it was very tasty. kyla: graeter' s was nice enough to give us a taste test, and this morning we can tell you all about it. the new flavor is called cheese crown and it' s based off of the popular pastry you can also buy at graeter' s. we spoke with the man who created the flavor, and he says the cheese crown ice cream will be around as long as there' s a demand for it and people like it. time -- >> for a long time

rain to the southward the gulf coast states are expecting stronger storms today. the colder air to the north producing snowfall through wisconsin and michigan today. the easiest part of the storm expected to roll through greater cincinnati, but we' re not totally out of the woods. we have the potential for embedded thunderstorms this gusty wind. the temperatures, 40 or so by 8:00 in the morning and clouds by lunchtime, rain arrives. a little before that in southeastern indiana approaching by downtown -- by noon, downtown. the rate in the east tolls off to 1:00 to 2:00, you could see mid 50' s before the rain starts. showers and thunderstorms through the afternoon slowly tapering to the evening commute and they may end with a couple of flurries for a few parts of town. we will take a look at the timeline in a couple of minutes. kyla woods, how are the roads?

heading home. pack the umbrella. no problems once you get out there, 275 for the airport, things look good. a few extra cars. we typically don' t see things start to pick up until the 6:00 hour. no delays. 275 of nearly 75 interchange, traffic looks good and clear. all of our speeds are up to par as you head out. 270 five near eastgate near the route 32 interchange, you can see the traffic on 32 moving along just fine. heading to or from parts of clermont county, no problems. we will keep you updated throughout the morning. mark: thank you. new details this morning after a 14-year-old opens fire in the madison junior-senior high school monday morning. we' re now learning that the suspected shooter, 14-year-old james austin hancock, was on the wrestling team along with shooting victim cooper caffrey. the other boy shot, cameron smith, is not believed to be on the team. both victims are recovering at

with non-life-threatening injuries. two other victims were also injured yesterday, but are expected to be ok. lisa: this morning, the alleged shooter could be in court. we have team coverage this morning on what' s next in the case and community reaction as the tragedy sends shockwaves through the community. let' s begin with dan griffin, who' s live in hamilton this morning. dan: good morning. yesterday, a lot of people saying they could not believe happened near the first place. we could see this case play out here at the butler county juvenile justice center as early as this morning. the shooter, according to investigators, 14-year-old james austin hancock, expected to be in juvenile court this morning. he' s facing a long list of charges, including attempted murder and felonious assault. this comes after eyewitnesses say hancock fired at least a half-dozen shots in the cafeteria at madison junior-senior high school yesterday a little after 11:00 a.m.. investigators say bullets hit 15-year-old cameron smith and 14-year-old cooper caffrey. we' re told both caffrey and hancock are on the school'

two other students were also hurt, either by shrapnel or when they tried to run from the gunshots. all are expected to make full recoveries. the frightening moments after shots were fired, caught on a 911 call. caller: hello! i' m at -- i' m at madison -- i' m at madison high school. there' s a shooting! dispatcher: ok. caller: he' s got a gun. he started shooting people. dispatcher: how many people did he shoot? caller: what? dispatcher: how many people did he shoot? caller: i' m not sure. he just pulled out his gun and started shooting. dan: just gutwrenching listening to that. investigators say hancock used a .38-caliber gun. the motive isn' t clear at this point, and we also don' t know who owns the gun. we' ll keep working this morning to get the latest on the case. live in hamilton, dan griffin, wlwt news 5. lisa: thank you. the gravity of the shooting weighing heavy on many hearts in the community.

s andrew setters continues our team coverage this morning in with how people are reacting to this tragedy. andrew: for a lot of people, the big question is, why did a 14-year-old create chaos in the cafeteria here at madison junior-senior high school? getting that answer may be difficult. getting a sense of security may be even more difficult for these students. everyone will have a story to share about where they were when this occurred. a lot of people have been sharing the stories and taken the time to check in with today. today, teachers prepare for the arrival of students of make sure they are prepared for the aftermath as they were for the shooting. people accrediting the preparedness the way the shooting was happening -- handled yesterday. students came face-to-face with fear. >> i was about to move my chair

of a loud bangs. and then i looked over and one of the kids that got shot liked grabbed his leg. he fell down and the kid that shooting, like, run out out. a couple of gets were screaming and crying and everybody ran out of the building. andrew: extracurricular activities are canceled today along with classes at madison schools. the students are expected to return tomorrow. teachers are returning back to class today. they' re preparing for the arrival of students. andrew setters, wlwt news 5. lisa: many people are sending their thoughts to the community, including the archdiocese of cincinnati. they released a statement saying they' re sending their prayers to those touched by monday' s shootings. mark: another local figure stepping up for those affected by monday' s tragedy, restaurant

tweet last night hoping to help with the healing of the families affected in the shooting. in the tweet, he says he would like to host a dinner when the injured students recover. we have ongoing coverage of the school shooting online at wlwt.com and on our wlwt mobile app. you can watch more interviews and see livestreams and photos from the scene. lisa: meanwhile, a gun was found at middletown high school monday as well. school officials say they found the gun in a locker during a lockdown after the shooting at madison junior-senior high. the school district also says students told a teacher about the possible gun at the school. police say a male student was taken into custody. his name hasn' t been released. happening today, the ohio department of health is holding a zika virus tabletop exercise in columbus. , ensure the state' s readiness at the local and state levels prior to the 2016 mosquito season, which is usually from may to october. zika virus is primarily

an infected mosquito, though some cases have been know to transmit the disease through sexual intercourse. the virus has also been known to cause birth defects in babies. mark: a new nationwide cnn/orc poll finds donald trump and hillary clinton well ahead of their closest competitors just as the race expands to a national stage. super tuesday is a chance for candidates to get a very large number of delegates to the democratic and republican nominating conventions. 11 states will either vote or caucus. about half of them are in the south, which is why you' ll also hear this called the sec primary, taking that name from the southeast conference, an association of southern universities that may be best known for its football rivalries. the u.s. territory of american samoa will also hold it' s caucus -- also hold its caucus today. ohio governor john kasich says he thinks trump will dominate today, but kasich looks forward to the future primaries. >> we' ll do ok, but not great. look we have a campaign plan and

t deal with it anymore. mark: the alleged shooter, 14-year-old james hancock, could be court as soon as this morning. we' ll have more team coverage with the latest details just ahead. lisa: developing news in northern kentucky you saw first on wlwt. a body found in a bracken county creek over the weekend is that of a missing mother. the father of tara turner tells us officials were able to identify her by her tattoos. a fisherman spotted tara' s body in snag creek yesterday outside foster, kentucky. the mother of three was last seen january 31. >> i broke the news to her this morning and i just got kind of a blank look on her face. she knew. she knew her mommy wasn' t coming home and she was hoping for the best. lisa: an autopsy is currently underway. investigators have not released information on how tara died.

a neighbor found the car in flames after the driver crashed near the intersection of westwood northern boulevard and mchenry early sunday. emergency crews found the 21-year-old driver dead inside. police have not released the victim' s name or any possible suspects. lisa: happening today, the jury trial will begin for the man who made national headlines by trying to get a police officer to shoot him. michael wilcox is already serving 18 years in prison for a murder in brown county. he pleaded guilty last month of a murder in elsmere. commonwealth attorney rob sanders is recommending a life sentence. mark: let' s check in with tyler and see how things are moving -- kyla and see how things are moving on the roads. kyla: if you' re heading outside right now, let' s check those travel times. 275 on the northeast corner, a quick 13 minute commute. 16 minutes out of butler county. still pretty low as farce the travel time.
