start in preschool program in grant county. a complete list of closures and delays right now on wlwt.com. good morning, i am lisa cooney. mark: i am our case. let' s begin with randi rico for a closer look at when that snow is getting out of here. randi: i know you' re hoping not to see any more of this. you can see the back edge of the flurries and snow showers are rolling and through the 270 five loop. areas on the west side of town, areas to the north, watching the last flurries slide through. downtown, that back edge working to the southern and eastern portions of the 275 loop. snow flurries coming to an end for many areas. now it is rolling through hamilton county. by the time we get to 8:00 a.m. or so, the back edge is starting to pull out of our area. expect improving conditions as

temperatures. 33 degrees in springboro. 34 in cincinnati. temperatures a bit above freezing, most places just wet roads reporting. watching flurries move through. lunchtime, the snow is long gone but the clouds are sticking around. 36 degrees. about 40 degrees for the day. a big-time warm-up is on the way. i will have that in a couple of minutes. let' s get you out safely on the wet roads. kyla: things are looking pretty good. wet conditions so far. we have not seen any incidents or anything to slow you down. just fine. 275 at hamilton on the northwest corner for those heading up toward forest park were sharonville, traffic looks good in all directions. across the river, has not quite thinned out southbound.

the next hour or northbound will get heavy. decent volume southbound, but no delays. 71 at victory parkway, looking good. easy breezy commute on the 71 corridor. things are looking pretty great as you head outside. just some wet pavement. mark: a mother and child killed in a crash after another car hits them head on. lisa: the driver is being treated at uc medical center, where dan griffin is live with the latest. dan: the woman who crossed the centerline, according to police, is here at uc medical center. her condition is not known this morning. police in coldspring tell us the crash happened last night on u.s. 27 about 7:00 p.m. a mother and young daughter were killed after that woman driving southbound crossed the centerline and hit them head on as they drove northbound. investigators say the area is not prone to crashes, and right now they'

happened. >> currently, what we believe happen is a vehicle was traveling north on u.s. 27 and the other car was traveling south. it appears the car traveling south cross over the median and hit the vehicle head on. dan: police are not elaborating at this point on the names of the people involved in this crash. as we are told, they' re trying to look into factors as to why this crash happened. we will keep working this story. we' re expecting an update a little later this morning. dan griffin, wlwt news 5. lisa: and abandoned car hit by a train in glendale about 11:00 last night. it happened by greenville avenue. the train was stopped while the car was moved off the tracks. no injuries. mark: another scare after a man was arrested with guns near schools in the area.

apologizing to parents. andrew: madison local schools trying to get back to normal, reassure students after monday' s school shooting. yesterday' s arrest and an alert it out by middletown may have made that more difficult. a man was found asleep in a church parking lot. bryan miller had two guns and a box of ammo in the car and was intoxicated. there is no connection to the school shooting or madison local schools other than it happened somewhat nearby. it led to a robocall being sent out by the middletown school districts. >> it is not good hearing messages like that. if nothing is happening, they need to do something about the system sending out the messages. it is not good. andrew: middletown schools later apologize. bryan miller is due in court later today. mark: a wyoming teenager is now charged with aggravated

students at wyoming high school wednesday. the 15-year-old tonight the charges in juvenile court thursday. the school district is considering security changes and for now students will see a stronger police presence this week. >> a couple of options we began talking about yesterday immediately after school was -- were that students should leave their backpacks in their lockers rather than bringing them into the hallway or into class. mark: the district says it will also make sure all doors are locked throughout the school day. lisa: do cruz -- new clues as investigators continue to talk with a 77-year-old carjacking victim to learn about what happened earlier this week. this is a look at the 2002 black toyota camry stolen on tuesday. the woman was not physically hurt, but clearly shaken by the carjacking. shopper say tuesday' s crime combined with the recent robbery of a u.s. bank ranch in the same

i mean, honestly, i will address it quickly because it is irrelevant. look, mitt is a failed candidate. he failed. he failed horribly. lisa: romney did not endorse a candidate, only spoke out to condemn trump' s campaign. mark: for the most part, john kasich stayed with from the mudslinging and hopes a strategy will play well with voters. >> throughout this campaign, i talked about issues. i' ve never tried to go and get into these kind of scrums we' re seeing here on the stage. mark: this weekend, kasich will be going up against the other candidates and five contests, including the kentucky republican caucus. when voters head out this week in, the republican race could be down to four. ben carson has hinted his cap panel in today. he is promised to discuss his future in the race later today at a meeting of the conservative political action conference in

impressive -- tell me about the mongol in marvels and how impressive they are. >> i am a little out of breath with the workout. as you can tell, they are all the way from mongolia. they juggle these cattle bells -- kettle bells like they weigh nothing. during the show itself, they built a human pyramid that stretches from the ground up about 40 feet in the air. jennifer: how many are there? >> we have the three strongest guys and a bunch of slightly smaller girls who fly in the air. they' re tossing them around. t know. there are three of them who balance on their heads upside down, then they take on a weight of 150 pounds. it stretches all the way up. the total of the pyramid is about 800 pounds plus. jennifer: that is crazy.

bmx riders coming up. the circus kicking off two shows today, three on saturday and two on sunday. jennifer schack, wlwt news 5. lisa: again, she is wearing the cape. i think she brought that with her. i don' t think they gave it to her. it is nice. glittery. the circus is also going to attract a crowd outside u.s. bank arena. mark: cincinnati animal advocates are organizing protests for every performance this weekend. the group says the circus repeatedly mistreats animals. the decision to retire elephants has been celebrated, but the circus will continue to feature other animals in future performances. lisa: back to your forecast. randi, good morning. randi: lots of stuff to do this weekend, bockfest, wine fest, the circus. the weather, while not perfect, things are improving.

moving out. could see a couple of passing showers tomorrow. by next week, we are all thinking spring. as we look at the radar right now, flurries and snow showers generally along and southeast of the 71 corridor. downtown, things are drying out, maybe a couple of straggler downtown, but the main line has moved to the eastern part of the so. over the last two hours, we have seen the snow clear out. over the next two hours, i expected to completely moved out of the area. by 8:00 and 9:00, everyone is dumb was full or his and snow showers. then we patiently wait for sunshine. 34 right now i cvg. you will notice most accounts at work couple of degrees above freezing -- most towns at or above freezing. toward 5:00 this afternoon, 40 degrees.

mark: good morning, everyone. we get ready for the first weekend in march. we' re waiting for that snow to get out of here. good morning, i' m mark hayes. lisa: and i' m lisa cooney. we will get to marker headlines and a check on the morning commute in a moment. let' s start with a check on the forecast. randi rico, good morning. randi: i know everyone is excited to get rid of the snow. right now in downtown cincinnati, we are watching the last few flurries move through. as we zoom in, you will notice much of the 275, the snow line has moved to the southeast of that. the back edge rolling through northern portions of brown county and you can see over the last two hours, we watched the back edge move through much of the area. give it another two hours. even folks down toward maysville will be done with all of this snow at least for now. generally, the trend is for warmer air.

traveling through that area along 32, you will want to avoid that short portion of it. we will keep you updated and let you know when it reopens. all of our interstates are off to a great start. lisa: thank you. developing now, a mother and young girl killed in a car crash in cold spring, kentucky. this morning, police plan to release new details surrounding this accident. mark: dan griffin is live at uc medical where another victim is still being treated. dan: investigators tell us the woman who crossed the centerline survived. she is here at uc medical center her condition is not clear. cold spring police tell us the crash happened about 7:00 last night on u.s. 27. a mother and now daughter were killed as the woman crushed -- crossed the centerline. police say the area is not prone to accidents, but they say any all involved.

it is probably the worst thing you can see and law enforcement. we have officers over at uc trying to investigate to determine what information they can provide for us. dan: police have not elaborated on the names of the people involved in this crash. they tell us they are working to determine a cause of the crash, exactly how and why this happened in the first place. we' re expecting an update later this morning, and we will keep bring you the latest. dan griffin, wlwt news 5. lisa: thank you. first on wlwt, police scramble after a mother says her 18-day-old baby was inside a stolen car. now the mother is under arrest for lying to police. wlwt news 5' s andrew setters was there when it all unfolded. andrew is live in the studio with more on what really happened. andrew: police said she lied about her daughter being in the car. what they don' t know is why.

>> chief, is that the -- is that the baby, chief? andrew: we brought it to you live here on wlwt. na' cole benton is being held in lock-up now, facing a list of charges. she told police yesterday her ford focus was stolen, with 18 day old lamilyan mccollum in the back seat. now police say that was not true. we were there and brought it to you live as benton rolled up in front of her house in the west end, and walked in carrying her baby during the middle of this massive search. police now think she reported the car and baby missing, then took her baby, hopped in a cab, and went to a friend' s house. the massive search across the city was for nothing. >> this has been a very trying day for not only our officers and investigating efforts this , yielded a tremendous amount of resources to try and locate this child. charges over the stolen car stolen. benton is facing a list of charges including inducing panic in court this morning. children' s services has her

s coroner says he was not killed by his fall into the burning home' s basement. autopsy results show he died of smoke inhalation after his fall through the floor of a pater avenue home in december. investigators have ruled the fire as arson, and wolterman' s death is considered a homicide. no arrests have been made so far. lisa: new details on a plan to upgrade security at cincinnati city hall. city manager harry black has announced the date to implement the changes. he released a memo saying expect to see metal detectors back at the entrances by april 4. employees to wear id badges, adding car access doors on other floors, and restricting parking on plum street, mail and video security changes all expected sometime this summer. in commitment 2016, the latest republican debate got heated and intense between the candidates. engines.

somewins to join the big dance this year. number 24 smu is coming to fifth third arena. that tip is set for noon, and then the bearcats will get a couple days off before the american athletic conference tournament. that kicks off thursday in orlando. lisa: xavier is also hoping for a strong finish to secure a top seed on selection sunday. the musketeers are wrapping up the regular season tomorrow, hosting creighton at the cintas center. the big east tournament is up after that. that kicks off wednesday in new york city. starting tonight, the northgate mall is enforcing a new policy. mark: mall officials are starting family evenings, and this will impact younger shoppers. kyla woods joins us now with the details. kyla: the first family evening is tonight. after 5:00 p.m., anyone under the age of 17 will need to be accompanied by someone 21 or older. this is a new mall policy for friday and saturday nights, and it goes back to a recent disturbance involving a group of teens. last month, six teenagers were hit with criminal charges and police said they were acting

police said there were as many as 100 teenagers hanging out at the mall when they stepped in. mall officials say they developed this plan with police and community feedback. colerain township police will help enforce the new policy on northgate property including parking lots. mark: thank you. a new playground is in the works to help kids learn about history in an interactive way. the behringer-crawford museum in covington is collaborating with the devou good project to build a nature playscape behind the museum. the play area will let children discover local fossils in replicated archeological digs, build and settle into cabins like the pioneers did, and even travel down the ohio river on flatboats. natureplay is set to open in june, but a test run with local kids will take place this afternoon. lisa: snow on thursday, ice cream on friday. it is opening day at the loveland dairy whip. it' s a tradition as winter winds down. the dairy whip' s season spans from the first weekend in march

mark: welcome back. a mother and her child killed in a crash after a driver crosses lanes, hitting them head-on. lisa: that driver is being treated at uc medical center. wlwt news 5' s dan griffin is there with the latest. dan: good morning. the woman who police say crossed a center line and caused this crash is here at uc medical center. her condition, not known at this point. police say this crash happened on u.s. 27 at about 7:00 last night. officers say a mother and young daughter were killed after that woman driving southbound crossed the center line and hit them head-on as they drove northbound. investigators say this area that it happened is not prone to crashes. no names have been released at this point. investigators are working to determine factors in this crash. we are expecting an update from coldspring police later and we will keep working on the story for you. for now, live at uc medical center, dan griffin, wlwt news 5. mark: thank you. police launch an intense search after a mother says her

lisa: thank you. we could have four candidates going after the republican nomination by the end of the day. ben carson hinted he could drop out today. he sat out of the republican debate last night, the first of days in super tuesday. the kentucky republican caucus mark:the kentucky republican caucus takes place tomorrow, and voting times are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. all 11 presidential candidates who filed to participate in the caucus will remain on the ballot. however, signs will be posted at caucus locations to inform voters about which candidates have dropped out of the race. kentucky voters had to be registered as republicans by december 31 in order to take part in this weekend' s caucus. lisa: rounding out the top five, the party is about to get started for bockfest. the annual bockfest parade sets off at 6:00 p.m. in front of arnold' s downtown. bockfest will run through the weekend and will include the fourth annual bockfest 5k saturday morning.
