bestselling writer pat conroy has died after battling pancreatic cancer. his novels sold more than 20 million copies worldwide. he was best known for his books "the prince of tides" and "the great santini," which were later made into oscar-nominated films. pat conroy was 70-years-old. high school wrestlers are speaking up about a serious health risk connected to the sport. recent cases of mat herpes have been reported in california and the pictures are causing a stir on social media. it was one of the most infectious forms of the disease and it' s spread by skin-to-skin contact and saliva since there is no cure wrestlers , are not supposed to compete if they are infected. now there is a push for stricter physical evaluations of wrestlers before they hit the mat. happening today, the united states olympic committee will hold a leadership meeting to discuss the zika virus. the committee formed an infectious disease advisory group last week to help identify best practices to deal with the disease.

brehm has pleaded guilty to domestic violence and inducing also today today, a walnut hills man is heading to court accused someone. court records show jason kuss allegedly told a man he was ready to kill somebody causing , the man to fear for his life. kuss will be in court this afternoon to face two counts of aggravated menacing. under fire and under investigation. the metropolitan sewer district is facing scrutiny over what hamilton county commissioners call unaccountable waste. wlwt news 5' s dan griffin is leading the way with the meeting set to take place today to get to the bottom of it. dan, good morning. dan the director of the : metropolitan sewer district will be front and center, talking with commissioners about the daily operations and also needed upgrades. there have been allegations the entity spent hundreds of millions of dollars without sufficient oversight. hamilton county commissioners said they filed a motion in u.s. district court requesting enforcement of a 2014 court

s heart kyla: such a sweet story. the person rewarded the mayfield elementary student for his love. and now his family wants to thank that stranger. josh pelfrey is a fifth grader at mayfield. last week, someone wrote to his school saying she saw josh being sweet to his grandmother at a store. josh' s grandma told the woman he' d been struggling with his grandpa' s death on thanksgiving day. writing as an appreciative citizen, the stranger says she saw josh admiring a pair of shoes, so she dropped off two pairs at his school along with a $50 gift card to take his grandma and siblings out to dinner. josh says he couldn' t believe it. >> i was just excited because i really never remembered looking at them but i liked them the , minute i saw them. >> they were just a total angel. they have made my life easier, just with the kindness they' ve kyla: josh' s grandma says she still doesn' t know whom her

she hopes the appreciative citizen comes forward so she can thank them personally. mark: that is what a sense of community is all about. kyla: and to do it anonymously is very sweet. mark: thank you. new this morning, a state senator from cincinnati wants to honor olympic gold medalist jesse owens. ohio senator cecil thomas has introduced legislation to establish jesse owens day in ohio. senator thomas says it would fall on his birthday september 12. owens has a special connection to ohio, he ran track at ohio state where he became known as the buckeye bullet. after his ohio state career, he gained international fame with a powerful performance in the 1936 olympics in nazi germany. owens won 4 gold medals at those games when adolf hitler was promoting the superiority of the aryan race. oscar-winning actor tom hanks will visit ohio next month. state' s newly renovated motion pictures center. he will appear at several private events before the

the gala will raise money for the tom hanks scholarship and visiting artist program. hanks performed at wright state back in the 1970' s. the state of ohio is now offering money to improve police community relations. the office of criminal justice services is accepting applications for grants. city and state police and government as well as faith groups and non-profits can apply for up to $30,000. police departments must be working for certification. groups can apply up until 5:00 p.m. march 31. happening today, cincinnati firefighters will be on-duty in florida to help their neighbors. but they will not be putting out fires. they will spend the next 10 days dancing up a storm and lip-synching along the beach to raise money for charity. the department has traveled to fort myers beach for nearly 30 years. last year, firefighters raised more than $10,000 during the event to help purchase a van designed to transport children in wheelchairs. that is good stuff.
