kyla: i am in for lisa cooney. we want to get a check on the weather. randi rico is joining us. randi: it is going to be wet. rain showers rolling through our area. light in and around the 275 loop. any breaks in the rain today will be brief. if you look along and southeast of the 71 corridor, steady rain. over the river, almost everyone seeing the rain once you had south . north, steadier rain in portions of fayette and union county. scattered through butler and more in counties.

extends to the gulf coast. any breaks from the rain are not going to last long. temperatures sit in the upper 50' s. sitting at about 57 degrees. 58, walton. there is patchy fog. fog and rain for the morning drive. my noon, steady rain. towards the late afternoon and evening, a heavier push of rain will pull and. -- will pull in. mark: breaking news this morning out of pennsylvania five people are confirmed dead and another three injured after a shooting in a neighborhood outside of pittsburgh. authorities say 3 women and one man were pronounced dead at the scene. three others were taken from the scene in ambulances and one of them died at the hospital. according to authorities, the shooting happened during a backyard party or cookout. police are looking for a pair of gunmen, who they say fired from an alley to the rear of the home.

to lead us to believe there is at least two people that discharged weapons into a backyard party or cookout of some sort. mark: so far police have no one a motive isn' t immediately known. kyla: we' ve learned new details this morning after a person was shot and killed in over-the-rhine late last night. wlwt news 5' s andrew setters is headquarters with the latest on the investigation. andrew: cincinnati police have their investigation. we can tell you they have a person of interest in custody in saying much else. 31-year-old james mixon was found shot in the 1600 block of he could not be saved. police have not said anything about how they think this shooting unfolded or what the motive might have been. they have said that a person of they' re not looking for anyone else. the fact that they' ve found the person believed to be the

been filed might indicate there is something more to this shooting. we' ll be working to figure out more information from cincinnati police. live from district one, andrew setters, wlwt news 5. kyla: happening today a middletown student will be at the butler county juvenile court for allegedly bringing a gun to school. this happened the same day that austin hancock allegedly opened fire at madison junior/senior high school injuring four students. according to officials the 15-year-old student at middletown high school was approached by the school' s resource officer. the student at first denied having a gun, before admitting it. police say a semi-automatic 9 millimeter beretta was found in his backpack. mark: making sure madison junior/senior high is safe. that was the mission last night as parents and school leaders brainstormed ideas to learn from and grow from last week' s school shooting. wlwt news 5' s tammy mutasa was there for the meeting and has the new plans.

d be concerned about safety. how they' ll recover is what matters most. >> so you feel good about what you heard? yes, yes. mark: the district will be meeting with the elementary parents tonight at 6:00. if parents from the junior and senior high didn' t make it last night they' re also welcome to attend tonight' s meeting. a bomb threat in boone county called in by a high-ranking educator. boone county schools say 46-year-old jennifer warford was the assistant principal at conner middle school when she was accused of calling in the threat to a florence restaurant. according to court documents warford called 911 dispatchers last month and stated somebody just reported a bomb at logan' s in florence, please hurry. then hung up. dispatchers called warford back and she denied making the call, but admitted during a follow-up interview that she was in fact the original caller and lied to officers. she now faces one count of falsely reporting an incident. kyla: a 19-year-old is now facing charges in a december car

there' s now a warrant out for terrence cook. court documents show, cook is charged after the wreck along reading road in roselawn. 16-year-old djohnte wilson and 14-year-old anthony craddock died in the crash. cook, has been indicted on two counts of vehicular homicide. along with vehicular assault, he has not been arrested. mark: let' and see what is happening outside. randi: wet is the forecast for today. occasionally cloudy. otherwise, fairly cloudy. round 275, a little break at the moment. it will not last long. coming down heavier.

mark: good morning. we take a live look outside. we have some rain out there. we have some rain out there. it will stick around most of the day. first, checking the headlines, nine firefighters were injured after an explosion leveled several buildings in seattle. according to fire officials the 8 firefighters and one battalion chief were responding to a report of a natural gas leak just before 2:00 local time when a large explosion occurred. fire crews say the explosion was likely caused by a natural gas leak. the blast sent debris across the area and windows were shattered in buildings as far as two blocks away. they are all hospitalized in

cuts, bruises and burns. kyla: with more than a foot of rain so far and the potential for more parts of northwest louisiana are under a mandatory evacuation order. about 100 homes are already flooded in one area. and officials have been conducting rescue operations. now with fears that water could flow over a levee authorities are warning residents of several subdivisions that they must evacuate. several cars and homes were swallowed in high water in the suburb on the southside of shreveport on wednesday. people are urged to stay off the roads, since up to another foot of rain is expected to hit the region by the end of the weekend. mark: people are paying their respects to the late nancy reagan. the former first lady is lying in repose at the ronald reagan presidential library. public viewings continue today, with a funeral service scheduled for friday. mrs. reagan will be buried next to her husband at the library. she died sunday at her los angeles home of congestive heart failure. she was 94. rumors of adam pacman jones

sunshine returns for friday and we get a break into the forecast. for today, 58 degrees, steady rain. heavier later in the day. tomorrow, bring on the sunshine. saturday, a couple spotty showers in the forecast. we spring forward into sunday morning. steady rain through the day on sunday. mark: happening today, the hamilton county board of elections is getting ready for the ohio primary. elections officials are going to have a public test of voting systems. the test will take place at the board of elections starting at 9:00. hamilton county will be using e-poll books once again. those systems have been re-programmed after big issues and delays when voters went to the polls in november. kyla: despite a key victory in michigan tuesday bernie sanders continues to lose ground in his democratic duel with hillary clinton. with her win in mississippi, clinton is beating sanders badly in the delegate count. a new cnn/orc poll shows clinton

next big contest here in ohio, and showing similar numbers in a pre-florida primary poll. and, in the republican race, the cnn/orc poll shows that both marco rubio and ohio governor john kasich are underdogs in their own states. here in ohio, governor kasich is losing to trump 41-35. it' s a similar situation in the latest quinnipiac poll with kasich trailing trump by six points. however the latest fox news poll shows the ohio governor has a fighting chance in his home state which has kasich in front , by 5%. it' s official. the gop presidential front-runner is coming to cincinnati. mark: donald trump' s campaign announced he' ll be stopping in cincinnati this sunday. he' ll be heading to the duke energy convention center at noon. eric deters, who is chair of trump' s campaign in northern kentucky, says his visit sunday is huge. >> i think that the recognition of donald trump coming into dayton on saturday and cincinnati on sunday is a recognition of the trump

ohio he needs to do this visit. and in my opinion, it' s so significant that in this trip to cincinnati on sunday will win ohio for trump. mark: former president bill clinton made a swing through ohio wednesday on his wife' s behalf. he ended his day in dayton, where he said that hillary is the best change-maker he' s ever known, and that if ohio supports her, she will win the white house. ohio' s primary is on tuesday. kyla: putting new restrictions on teens and tanning in the bluegrass state. a bill that would ban anyone under the age of 18 from using a tanning bed is moving forward in the kentucky senate. right now kids between the ages of 14 and 18 must have a signed parental consent form to use a tanning bed. the bill with the tougher age restrictions passed committee on wednesday and now goes to the full senate. mark: northern kentucky, shattering numbers from recent years and dealing with a serious

33 schools throughout northern kentucky have reported children affected with whopping cough. health officials say the numbers are six times what we' d see in an entire normal year. schools and health officials are telling parents to keep sick kids home, treat them with antibiotics, return with a doctors note, with at least 5 days out of school. the focus now, getting parents children and school staff immunized. >> we are still seeing the pertussis in students who have been properly immunized, so it really depends on the individual , whether or not they are protected. mark: northern kentucky is offering free immunization and booster shots. anyone in the community can get one as long as you are over the age of 10. anyone under 18 must be with a parent. kyla: an update on the unique transplant surgery at the cleveland clinic. doctors are now saying that the nation' s first uterus transplant has failed. the transplant had to be surgically removed tuesday. the 26-year-old donor recipient appeared at a press conference

recovering well until a sudden complication that required surgery. the hospital says it' s looking at what went wrong, but still plans to move forward with 10 other uterus transplants. mark: happening today, cincinnati children' s hospital is celebrating world kidney day. the medical center will be joined by cincinnati mayor john cranley along with the national kidney foundation. the doctors attending today' s event will share major risk factors for kidney disease as well as highlighting advances that have been made in the field of pediatric kidney disease research. local families affected by kidney disease will also attend today' s event. randi: grab your raincoat and umbrella. today will be a soaker. the rain showers move in yesterday. they were steady overnight. more often than not, you will look outside and see the rain falling.
