updated on the roads. mark: thank you. new this morning, a school threat at a local middle school has parents on edge this morning. the latest threat being in the three rivers school district. wlwt news 5' s dan griffin is live in cleves with the investigation. good morning. dan: good morning. three rivers school officials aren' t elaborating on the threat. but they tell us cleves police are handling the investigation now. school leaders say they were made aware of the threat at about 5:30 yesterday evening by a taylor middle student. we' re told that threat was not a social media threat, but nothing further. school leaders say no children or staff were in danger, but they wanted to take a high level of caution. some parents, meanwhile, aren' t happy about how the school handled this situation. there was a post on facebook telling parents to rest assured their children will be safe, but several wanted to know why the school never called. a spokeswoman for the school

be extra security today, but told us the student involved will not be there. we are live in cleves, dan griffin, wlwt news 5. mark: developing this morning, a deadly shooting on a sidewalk in over-the-rhine. andrew setters is live as cincinnati police investigate this homicide. good morning. andrew: cincinnati police say they are investigating this late not shooting but they are not looking for any suspects in this case because they have a person of interest in custody. 31-year-old james mixon was found shot along vine street in over-the-rhine. emergency crews worked to revive him, but he could not be saved. police say they have a person of interest who has been located and that they are not looking for anyone else in connection to this shooting. the shooter said he was being robbed. right now no charges have been filed.

unit is investigating. reporting live andrew setters, , wlwt news 5. kyla: two cincinnati officers accused of covering up a crash involving a fellow officer are acquitted of all charges. sergeant richard sulfsted and officer jason cotterman have been suspended from the force since last september, when witnesses accused district five police sergeant andrew mitchell of driving drunk and crashing. cotterman and sulfsted were facing six charges, including dereliction of duty and obstructing justice. judge bercowitz said there were too many inconsistencies in the testimony for him to convict cotterman and sulfsted on any of the charges. both officers will now be reinstated. mark: a butler county teenager will never be allowed to drive again after a crash that killed his friend the morning after christmas. tristan lacey apologized to the family of his best friend wednesday, 18-year old mark valentine, who died in december in a crash on beckett ridge in

control and crashed. he also had a suspended license and should never have been behind the wheel. in the sentencing, lacey said driving that night was the biggest mistake of his life. >> at night memories of mark and when i finally fall asleep, i' haunted with nightmares from getting in the car that night was the biggest regret of my life. mark: lacey was sentenced to six years in prison and imposed a lifetime driving ban. kyla: in commitment 2016 news, a hearing is scheduled today in a lawsuit against ohio' s secretary of state. this comes with ohio' s primary just days away. nine 17-year-olds are suing secretary of state jon husted after he said they will not be able to vote for a presidental nominee in next week' s primary. husted said even though the 17-year-olds will be 18 by the time of the general election, in the primary, only voters 18 or older can directly vote for delegates. democrat bernie sanders' presidential campaign also is suing over the limitations. mark: meanwhile in florida, the

candidates hit the debate stage for the second time this week. it comes right after the huge victory in michigan for the sanders campaign. mrs. clinton: i won one and lost one last night. this is a marathon and it' s a marathon that can only be carried out by inclusive, campaign i' m running. mr. sanders: when we began this campaign i was three points in the polls. i was probably 60 or 70 points behind the secretary. we have come a long way in 10 months. mark: florida holds a big contest in just five days, the same day of the ohio primary and three other contests. in all, there will be nearly 700 delegates up for grabs on tuesday. kyla: also in miami, former republican presidential candidate carly fiorina announced her endorsement of texas senator ted cruz on wednesday. fiorina dropped out of the race last month. she says she voted for cruz in virginia' s primary on super tuesday last week. the surprise endorsement comes as cruz tries to consolidate gop support and challenge

kyla: lawmakers are pushing the fda to create a vaccine for the zika virus. a bill sponsored by u.s. senator sherrod brown has passed committee and is heading to the full senate. the measure encourages the timely development of a vaccine by adding zika to an fda priority list. mark: a new nbc news poll shows that most americans agree that president obama should make a pick to fill the vacancy on the u.s. supreme court. senate republicans have refused to budge on the issue. 55% of americans disapprove of the senate not considering a nominee. 48% of americans say a vote needs to be made this year. but the republican chair has said no hearing and no vote. >> my constituents back in texas and i think my sense is people at large don' t want this lame duck president tilting the ideological balance of the supreme court. mark: senator john cornyn even warned that whoever the president picks will be beaten up like a pinata, their reputation damaged, then

a deadly storm system moved over parts of half a dozen states last night from eastern texas to southern illinois. kyla: in some areas, well over a foot of rain so far and a lot more to come. texas, louisiana, and arkansas are under flash flood warnings, with the flood risk extending into mississippi and north into missouri and illinois. the severe weather has left at least two people dead and forced evacuations. more than 100 homes are now under water. some submerged three or four feet. throughout the region, downed trees have toppled power lines, leaving 35,000 without electricity. mark: let' s check in with randi. randi: it is the same system but totally different. we' re talking rain in an inch or maybe two it will be a soaking rain today start to finish.

mark: good morning and welcome back. 5:23. we have some rain in the area. if you felt guilty taking that last vacation you took, apparently you' re not alone. a new study by alamo rent a car finds vacation shaming has become prevalent in the american workplace, especially among millennials. 59% of employed millennials reported feeling a sense of shame for taking or planning a vacation, compared to 41% of employees aged 35 or older. oddly enough, employed millennials aren' t just more likely to feel vacation shamed. the survey found they' re also more likely than older generations to say they shame

vacation. dearborn get her -- you better get away from me with that. speaking of vacations, spring is almost here and airlines are predicting an increase in spring travel. compared to last spring, airlines projecting a 3% increase, to 140 million passengers during march and april. that' s according to the trade group airlines for america, which also says that would be the highest ever for spring travel, topping the 136.2 million passengers traveling the skies during the same period last year. kyla: it appears there' s some horsing around going on at our international airport. this is dakota, cvg' s first therapy horse. she' s part of a pilot program to see how passengers would respond. and they seem to be loving it. the horse comes from seven oaks farm, where there are several mini horses and they do a therapy program. happening today, northern kentucky university is hosting the 31st annual dreamfest again

westbound direction towards 471, a bit heavier. eastbound is lighter. not a bad start on the interstates. mark: thank you. breaking news this morning out of pennsylvania. five people are confirmed dead and another three injured after a shooting in a neighborhood outside of pittsburgh. authorities say three women and one man were pronounced dead at the scene. three others were taken from the scene in ambulances, and one of them died at the hospital. according to authorities, the shooting happened during a backyard party or cookout. police are searching for a pair of gunmen who they say fired from an alley to the rear of the home. >> there is ballistic evidence to lead us to believe there is at least two people that discharged weapons into a backyard party or cookout of some sort. mark: so far police have no one in custody. a motive isn' t immediately known. kyla: we' ve learned new details

last night. wlwt news 5' s andrew setters is live at district one headquarters with the latest on the investigation. andrew? andrew: there are a lot of questions cincinnati police are continuing to investigate this deadly shooting. a person of interest is being questioned about this deadly shooting. that person has not been charged with any crime. 31-year-old james mixon was shot and killed in the 1600 block of vine street in over-the-rhine. police were called there around 10:00 last night and found him on the sidewalk. he could not be saved by emergency crews. police pretty quickly found a person of interest and they' ve spent some time questioning him. when police first arrived on the scene, there was talk of the shooting being in self defense. the shooter claimed he was being robbed at the time of the shooting. we' ve heard from someone else that the vcitim may have been arguing with someone over missing money before the shooting. right now cincinnati police haven'

connection to this and it remains under investigation. andrew setters, wlwt news 5. mark: developing now, a middle school student threatens a local school. kyla: even though district assures students are safe this morning, parents are very concerned. wlwt news 5' s dan griffin is live in cleves with what we' ve learned overnight. good morning. dan: good morning. parents are pretty frustrated over this threat. they say they didn' t get any communication from three rivers school district. this comes after a threat came in yesterday and there was a post to facebook about the threat. it got cleves police involved. they tell us the threat came from a taylor middle student and it was not on social media. a spokeswoman wouldn' t elaborate. she said the school wanted to take a high level of caution even though no children or staff

t elaborate on if there will be more security on site today. but she says the student involved will not be there. we will continue to follow this story through the morning. live in cleves, dan griffin, wlwt news 5. middletown student will be at the butler county juvenile court for allegedly bringing a gun to school. this happened the same day that austin hancock allegedly opened fire at madison junior/senior high school, injuring four students. according to officials, a 15-year-old student at middletown high school was approached by the school' s resource officer. the student at first denied having a gun before then admitting it. police say a semiautomatic 9 milimeter beretta was found in his back pack. mark: a bomb threat in boone county called in by a high-ranking educator. boone county schools say 46-year-old jennifer warford was the assistant principal at conner middle school when she was accused of calling in the threat to a florence restaurant.

warford called 911 dispatchers last month and stated, "somebody just reported a bomb at logan' s in florence. please hurry." then hung up. dispatchers called warford back and she denied making the call, but admitted during a follow-up interview that she was in fact the original caller and lied to officers. she now faces one count of falsely reporting an incident. kyla: a 19-year-old is now facing charges in a december car crash that killed two teenage brothers. there' s now a warrant out for terrence cook. court documents show cook is charged after the wreck, along reading road in roselawn. 16-year-old djohnte wilson and 14-year-old anthony craddock died in the crash. cook has been indicted on two counts of vehicular homicide, along with vehicular assault. he has not been arrested. mark: happening today, the hamilton county board of elections is getting ready for the ohio primary. elections officials are going to have a public test of voting systems. the test will take place at the board of elections starting at 9:00. hamilton county will be using

those systems have been reprogrammed after big issues and delays when voters went to the polls in november. kyla: despite a key victory in michigan tuesday, bernie sanders continues to lose ground in his democratic duel with hillary clinton. with her win in missisippi, clinton is beating sanders badly in the delegate count. and a new cnn/orc poll shows clinton winning by double digits in the next big contest here in ohio and showing similar numbers in a pre-florida primary poll. and in the republican race, the same cnn/orc poll shows that both marco rubio and ohio governor john kasich are underdogs in their own states. here in ohio, governor kasich is losing to trump 41-35. it' s a similar situation in the latest quinnipiac poll, kasich trailing trump by six points. however, the latest fox news poll shows the ohio governor has a fighting chance in his home state, which has kasich in front by 5%. it' s official. the gop presidential front-runner is coming to

mark: donald trump' s campaign announced he' ll be stopping in cincinnati this sunday. he' ll be heading to the duke energy convention center at noon. eric deters, who is chairing trump' s campaign in northern kentucky, says his visit sunday is huge. >> i think that the recognition of donald trump coming into dayton on saturday and cincinnati on sunday is a recognition of the trump campaign, that to beat kasich in ohio he needs to do this visit. and in my opinion, it' s so significant that in this trip to cincinnati on sunday will win ohio for trump. mark: former president bill clinton made a swing through ohio wednesday on his wife' s behalf. he ended his day in dayton, where he said that hillary is the best change-maker he' s ever known, and that if ohio supports her, she will win the white house. ohio' s primary is on tuesday. kyla: let' s check in with randi rico. there is the conveyor belt of

there are also seven other bengal free agents weighing their options. mark: northern kentucky shattering numbers from recent years and dealing with a serious outbreak of the whooping cough. 33 schools in all throughout northern kentucky have reported children affected with whopping cough. health officials say the numbers are six times what we' d see in an entire normal year. schools and health officials are telling parents to keep sick kids home, treat them with antibiotics, return with a doctor' s note with at least five days out of school. the focus now, getting parents , children and school staff immunized. >> we are still seeing the pertussis in students who have been properly immunized, so it really depends on the individual if they are protected. northern mark: northern kentucky is offering free immunization and booster shots. anyone in the community can get one as long as you are over the age of 10. anyone under 18 must be with a

kyla: putting new restrictions on teens and tanning in the bluegrass state. a bill that would ban anyone under the age of 18 from using a tanning bed is moving forward in the kentucky senate. right now kids between the ages of 14 and 18 have to have a signed parental consent form to use a tanning bed. the bill with the tougher age restrictions passed committee wednesday and now goes to the full senate. mark: an update on the unique transplant surgery at the cleveland clinic. doctors now saying that the nation' s first uterus transplant has failed. the transplant had to be surgically removed tuesday. the 26-year-old donor recipient appeared at a press conference, and doctors say she was recovering well until a sudden complication that required surgery. the hospital says it' s looking at what went wrong, but still plans to move forward with 10 other uterus transplants. happening today, cincinnati children' s hospital is celebrating world kidney day. the medical center will be joined by cincinnati mayor john cranley, along with the national kidney foundation. the doctors attending today' s event will share major risk factors for kidney disease, as

for us, an inch, maybe two. the more intense bands -- our rain will increase in intensity toward the evening. 59 degrees with the wind at 8 miles an hour. we do have a little bit of fo g. through the afternoon, steady rain is expected. we will be in the low 60' s. why the time we get to midnight, you' ll notice most places picking up between 1 to 1/2 inches of total rainfall. there will be brakes at times. that will be hard to figure that out. expect rain through the afternoon. lunchtime, pretty soaking wet.

mark: he got out the crayons and construction paper. a storm knocked out the power just before the 10:00 p.m. newscast at nbc affiliate wmc. and a problem with the generator caused it to go out, too. that' s when staffers did some quick thinking. the crew grabbed cell phones and flashlights, and thanks to facebook live, the show went on. the meteorologist even put his skills and drew a picture of the week' s weather forecast. fortunately the station' s power was restored later that night, but engineers said they ran into a few technical problems wednesday morning. kyla: an elderly tortoise is keeping up on the latest trends by posing for a selfie. this is ali, seen here with dr. gary west from the phoenix zoo. west was documenting how often the 80-something-year-old aldabra tortoise was hiccuping, when ali approached him and took a peak at the camera. west says he took the opportunity to snap a picture and walked away with this memorable moment.
