m mark hayes. kyla: and i' m kyla woods, in for lisa cooney. we had the headlines are straight ahead. but first a check of the weather with wlwt news 5 meteorologist jennifer schack. jennifer: good morning. kind of a steady and soaking rain. the rain has come to an end. the total, .83 of an inch at the international airport. sunspots have seen over an inch of rain. it is still a little bit damp outside from last night' s showers. we do have the cloud cover in place. limited sunshine for the first half of the day. visibility about seven miles. wilmington is the exception,

there could be some patchy fog or dense fog. we haven' t seen too many problems yet and not a lot of wind for the morning. the overnight showers have moved off to the east. we should keep the cloud cover this morning and the roads should be pretty nice this afternoon. mid 40' s in the northwest counties. we' ll drop off a couple of more degrees. more sunshine today. we decrease the clouds for the midday. we have a lot more in the way of mild temperatures to come. kyla? kyla: happening now, drivers are being detoured after an accident shut down westwood northern boulevard in north fairmont. police say a female driver was taken to uc medical with minor

mark: new this morning, a serious crash in hamilton overnight. this happened around midnight when a man lost control driving on black street near the great miami river. crews had to cut open the van to get to the driver out. a medical helicopter was also called to the scene, and the man was taken to uc hospital. we are told he was talking to first responders and he is expected to survive. developing this morning, two women were fatally shot in what police are calling an apparent murder-suicide last night in fairfield township. kyla: according to the butler county chief, a mother and daughter were found shot around 9:00 last night on springcrest drive. the police chief said it appears the mother, a woman in her 50' s, shot her adult daughter, thought to be in her late 20' s, early 30' s before turning the gun on herself. coming up at 5:00, we' ll have a live report with the latest on the investigation. mark: an officer down and a suspect shot and killed. newly released body-camera video shows the tense moments and the confrontation that lead up to an officer-involved shooting in ludlow last december. >> i' m allowed to search you for

of terry vs. ohio. i' m allowed to do a pat down for weapons. >> stop it with your hands. stop it! mark: we' ve stopped the video in the moments before the shots are fired. that exchange happened after officer sam hodge stopped charles reynolds for a traffic violation. reynolds is heard not complying with officer hodge' s commands and pulled a gun, shooting the ludlow officer once in the right arm. hodge also fired, shooting and killing reynolds. last night, ludlow police honored the good samaritan who rushed to the officer' s aid, even creating a tourniquet to stop the bleeding. >> he has both my thanks for assisting me and my admiration for somebody who would put aside his personal safety to rush in and help somebody else. >> that' s just the way i grew up. i mean, you have to take care of business and that' s what i did. i didn' t even think about it. mark: kenton county prosecutor rob sanders cleared officer hodge of any charges last week. officer hodge has been with

has been an officer for 24. kyla: happening today, a mother will be arraigned in the beating of her 10-month-old baby boy. aimee correll has been indicted on six counts of child endangering and two on assault. the charges stem from a swat standoff in reading last friday. gabriel was found injured after the mother' s boyfriend, neal royal, barricaded himself in his apartment. royal has been charged with kidnapping and felony assault. the baby has since been released from the hospital. the republican presidential candidates are playing nice. mark: instead of mudslinging, inappropriate innuendoes, and shouting, the gop debate had calm and collected discourse. during the republican debate in coral gables, florida, the final four republicans running for president were for the most part respectful as they discussed policy. one hot topic being, the visa program called h-1b encouraging legal immigration for highly skilled workers. governor john kasich maintained his efforts to run a positive campaign, and donald trump sent a message to his party.

be the republican nominee. mr. kasich: you know, sometimes being positive isn' t all that interesting, but it' s very interesting to my family, my children and my supporters that i meet all across the country. i will continue to run a positive campaign. mr. trump: the republican establishment, or whatever you want to call it, should embrace what' s happening. mark: happening today, donald trump may be getting an endorsement from another former rival in the republican presidential race. multiple sources tell cnn retired neurosurgeon ben carson will endorse trump later today. trump has a news conference scheduled in palm beach, florida, this morning. and from the sunshine state to the buckeye state this weekend. the republican front-runner will be right here in cincinnati, holding a rally at the duke energy convention center. kyla: cincinnati officials tell us there will be a higher level wlwt news 5' s andrews setters is live with more on the weekend preps, and how governor kasich will also be nearby today. good morning. andrew: for john kasich, ohio is his last stand, and he hopes it

victory. for donald trump, a victory here and in florida could put him on the path to inevitability as the republican nominee. today we will see governor john kasich working to solidify support in his home state. he' ll host a town hall in lima later today, and coming up on saturday he' ll be at a republican party breakfast in sharonville. donald trump will be hosting a big event at the duke energy convention center on sunday. it' s the first big campaign stop here and the first for a presidential candidate this election cycle and with that comes an increase in security. >> plenty of plain-clothes officers, uniformed-support officers ready to handle any issues that might pop on the inside, but also then, anything that might pop up on the outside. andrew: it will be a very busy weekend ahead, including the heart mini marathon downtown around the same time as the trump event on sunday. we' ll have the latest to help you get around sunday morning. reporting live, andrew setters, wlwt news 5. kyla: and make sure to stay with

heads are turning to d.c., where the white house is hosting canadian prime minister justin trudeau, who has been called a political heartthrob. last night the white house hosted a state dinner. issues like trade, isis, and climate change are on the agenda for his visit. trudeau also commented on the presidential race, inviting americans to canada who say they' ll flee if donald trump is elected. kyla: more than 100 los angeles firefighters battled a massive warehouse fire thursday night. the fire sent smoke into the air that could be seen in the san fernando valley from its location downtown. in less than an hour, parts of the 70,000-square-foot building were collapsing. no reported injuries, and the fire remains under investigation. mark: two of the nba greats play their regular season last game against each other. lebron james and kobe bryant faced off as the cleveland cavaliers took on the los angeles lakers. kobe had 26 points to lebron' s 24, but the cavs got the win in

we had some showers late wednesday and most of yesterday. we are expecting the highs back into the 60' s. any overnight sprinkles have moved out. it is going to be a cloudy and damp start. no additional rain is expected. 48 right now with the north wind at eight miles per hour. we will have some drier air work its way back today. sunshine by midday. that will help the temperature climb pretty quickly. high pressure across the great lakes with a northeast and easterly wind from the great lakes. it will keep those showers at bay today. as to make it into the weekend, high pressure works its way out.

monday could be some heavier rain chances. we increase the coverage and intensity each day. voting on tuesday, sunshine and 74. kyla: former first lady nancy reagan will be laid to rest in southern california. funeral services will take place at the ronald reagan library in simi valley. nancy' s two children, patti davis and ronald prescott reagan, are expected to speak at their mother' s funeral. james a. baker, who served in president reagan' s administration, and former nbc news anchor tom brokaw will also give remarks. the funeral will be a private ceremony, but officials say more than 3,000 people passed the casket during public viewing. one notable person who will not be attending today' s service, president barack obama, who' s opting to speak at the south-by-southwest music festival in austin, texas. the president is the festival' s keynote speaker, and first lady michelle obama is expected to speak on march 16. officials say they will deliver a conversation about civic

before an audience of creators and entrepreneurs. officials say this is the first time in the festival' s 30-year history that a sitting president and first lady have participated. mark: the white house is launching a new initiative to make diapers more affordable for low-income families. the program gives low-income families access to diapers up to 25% cheaper than what is currently available. the white house says about one in three families has trouble affording diapers for their babies. the program launches at the end of next month. kentucky is confirming its first case of the zika virus. the cdc says test results on a man who recently returned to the louisville area after traveling to central america came back positive. he is expected to make a full recovery. so far, the virus also has been reported in at least 31 other states, including ohio and indiana. kyla: reducing the time it takes to process rape kits and close cold cases in kentucky. right now, lawmakers say it takes eight months for a rape kit to be tested in the state,

senate would shorten that process to 90 days. but to make it happen, it would need additional funding. the bills have made it out of committee and are now before the state senate. over 300 jobs are being cut in boone county. according to the kentucky career center, the innotrac lp facility along litton lane in hebron is shutting down in july. the first group of terminations will begin in the middle of may. innotrac corporation is a fulfillment company. the hebron facility is an e-commerce shipment center. mark: celebrating diversity within greater cincinnati. the reelabilities festival hosted an author last night who was diagnosed with asperger' s in her mid 30' s. liane holliday-willey spoke about how the diagnosis changed her life, and the obstacles she faces. she told us that having this open dialogue can only benefit the community. >> i think it' s very important that communities start to embrace everyone with differences, not just the visible differences, but all differences, challenges, or disabilities or whatever you will, but the point is, this is
