1700 block of west fork road. no one was inside at the time of the crash. police are still looking for the van of the driver. they say -- they believe it is a silver van based on the side mirror they found at the scene. a house fire under investigation in fort thomas. it happened around 11:30 last night on rockport avenue. everyone made it out safely, but no word on a cause. 5:02 right now, knew this morning, we are hearing from the father of a franklin boy who police say was punished so badly by his stepmother that it resulted in the death of the four-year-old. andrew setters is at the live alert desk as this woman heads to court today. andrew: he apparently wasn' t home when his son was allegedly dipped in scalding water. he was there to discover his on response of sun. >> that whole day seems like a big blur.

basketball to help students with autism. today milford high school is hosting a basketball tournament to raise money for the non-profit 4 paws for ability. the agency that places service dogs for children and veterans around the globe. today' s tournament will help raise funds to qualify one of the teachers at the school to receive a free facility autism assistance dog for her classroom. the games begin at 7:00 p.m. also happening today. cinderella' s closet is getting to work to local girls looking forward to the prom. this is the 10th annual giveaway weekend and the closet will be providing formal dresses and accessories for high school juniors and seniors struggling with the cost of the big dance. the giveaway is happening at immanuel united methodist church in lakeside park that goes from 4:30 until 8:00 tomorrow and 9:30 until 4:00. let' s check traffic. indy jones, good morning to you. india: fair conditions, green everywhere on the big map.

lisa: 37 degrees, friday looks good. the weekend looks chilly. we will check your forecast just ahead. for now, looking at today' s headlines. north korea is accused of carrying out another missile launch this morning into the sea. south korea' s defense ministry has denouncing it as a serious threat to peace and safety of the korean peninsula. officials described the launch as a frontal attack on u.n. security council resolutions. it is believed to be the first medium-range missile launched by the north since april 2014. someone has set off a pipe bomb in madison, indiana for the second time in a week and a half. as a result police now believe that they and the court system have become targets. nine days earlier, a bomb detonated in a shares arcing lot at the madison the police -- police department at city hall.

bombs are homemade a los angeles powder bombs with a fuse you have to light. construction worker fell more than 500 feet to his death on just his second day on the job. the head of the construction project says the worker was an electrician, who tumbled from the 53rd story of the building. police say the man landed on a car driving by and the woman driving that car was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition. project officials would not elaborate if the worker had a harness or who was nearby when he fell. 5:13 right now a meeting of , 2016, political powers behind closed doors. but will it shake up the republican presidential race? cnn is reporting that conservative leaders met thursday to talk about ways to take donald trump down. the group is led by radio host. erick erickson. according to cnn they discussed , a possible unity ticket. involving senator ted cruz and ohio' s john kasich. house speaker paul ryan discussed the possibility of an

money. the tampa city council voted to decriminalize marijuana meaning no more misdemeanors for people caught with 20 grams or less of pot. getting caught with pot is like getting a traffic ticket. city council members say this is not about legalizing marijuana. those in violation will face a lesser punishment. the idea is to help young people by not criminalizing them for a mistake but those who oppose the ordinance disagree. a plane heading from new york' s laguardia airport was forced to land at jfk after being hit by lightning. american airlines flight 4243 left raleigh, durham north carolina thursday on the way to laguardia. the plane was hit by lightning and was diverted to kennedy where it landed safely. the plane was carrying 55 asters

rushed to a florida hospital last night after a motorcycle crash. authorities say the baltimore ravens cornerback is in critical condition at miami' s jackson memorial hospital. in this video of the accident scene, you can see a motorcycle lying on its side in the road. ravens head coach john harbaugh released a statement saying that the team is praying for tray and his family. nfl great peyton manning announced his retirement earlier this month after leading the denver broncos to a super bowl victory. but manning only played with the broncos for the last 4 seasons. most of his career was spent with the indianapolis colts, starting in 1998. today peyton manning goes back to indianapolis, where he will hold a press conference with team owner jim irsay. tracking today with an eye on the economy. state officials are set to announce in a few hours ohio' s latest jobs data. the hiring figures are from the ohio department of job and family services. the state' s unemployment rate for january was 4.9% in january , a slight increase to start 2016. ohio' s recently seen growth in

live with the new details we' ll get later today. andrew, bring us up-to-date. andrew: we could learn how exactly this case came together. the charges indicate investigators can put the gun in this person' s hand, but not necessarily proving he pulled the trigger. rayshawn herald was indicted for possession of the firearm used to shoot at great american tower. over the course of several days, windows were hit by gunfire at the tower and surrounding buildings last january. this is a case that brought in investigators and they' ll speak today along with cincinnati police. herald was already in lock-up when he was indicted. he was the suspect in a shoot out on reading road last may. people who work downtown are a relieved there is an arrest. >> it' s a lovely facility and it was unusual to hear about that. we' re certainly glad that everything has been taking care of and the gentleman was arrested and we don' t have to worry anymore. andrew: again, one of the most

resulted in a car being pushed off the combs hehl bridge and into the ohio river. and today, campbell county police plan to hold a news conference to help us learn more about this shocking crash. water rescue crews initially used sonar equipment to locate the vehicle at the bottom of the river not too far from the bridge. but currents have been so strong, they aren' t able to get driver into the river to get it out. adding to the mystery, no one has called to report a missing person or family. campbell county police have been asking for anyone who hasn' t heard from loved ones to give them a call. those who live around here say they want answers. >> there' s just been questions of who is it, how many people are there, why hasn' t anyone come forward, when are they going to be able to get the car, how are they going to be able to get the car? jennifer: crews were on the re saying it could be sunday or monday before they can try to get the car out. of course, we' ll be at today' s news conference and we' ll bring

investigation and recovery . reporting live in california, ohio, jennifer schack, wlwt news 5. lisa: thank you. new details in a police chase in huber heights near dayton that ended in a deadly crash. we first told you about this yesterday morning. an officer was trying to pull over 18-year-old kyndra shackelford thursday morning after they say she stole a car from a gas station. shackelford ran a red light here and crashed into a white suv. the driver of the suv died. the passenger was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. shackelford is behind bars now, with charges pending. police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. a girls track coach in brown county resigns suddenly after being accused of sending inappropriate text messages to students. coach mark day submitted his resignation monday. day tells us he resigned for family and personal reasons, but we found out an external investigator was hired to look

improper text messages to students. the school has reported the allegations to the ohio department of education. fire crews in campbell county called to fort thomas overnight for a house fire. it broke out around 11:30 last night on rossmore avenue. all is quite right now and there does not appear to be significant damage to the home. we know everyone inside got out safely. no word yet on a cause. tonight, xavier is getting started. they are facing weber state and the tip is set for 9:20. the muskies are favored and head coach chris mack wants his team thinking about a trip to houston and the final four. >> i don' t want them to look at it like, we don' t have the opportunity to play for houston until 3, 4 more games. you know how hard would you play if these 40 minutes on friday night determined whether or not, because in a weird, way it does. uc is going to tip-off shortly after xaiver. the bearcats are taking on st.

lisa: thank you. a home invasion in a mobile home park in northern ohio leaves a woman dead, now police are searching for the suspect. the incident happened thursday morning in dennison, about one hour south of akron. a teenager told deputies he woke up to screaming and found a man on top of his dad' s girlfriend, darlene renner. the teen went and got a shot gun and the suspect ran away after a brief altercation. renner suffered multiple stab wounds and died from her injuries. the teen was arrested on a separate charge. a couple struck by a vehicle that crashed into a florida pizzeria where they were eating is remembering the ordeal. the downtown pizza grill in oakland park wednesday night when this driver lost control of her vehicle. went right to the front of the pizzeria and hit the couple while they were eating. >> the only thing i see is me going to the floor, the car coming past me, and then him

lisa: both were treated for minor injuries. police are investigating the cause of the crash and don' t yet know whether the driver will face any charges. there was a lot of finger-pointing thursday during a house hearing on the flint water crisis. michigan governor rick snyder testified that the state' s department of environmental quality repeatedly assured him that water from the flint river was safe. when in fact, the water was contaminated with dangerous levels of lead. flint switched from the detroit water system in 2014 and snyder says he did not become aware of the lead contamination until october 2015. governor snyder also testified that the epa ignored early information about the contamination. while epa administrator gina mccarthy said the state provided unreliable and inaccurate information. today we will learn more about

to help in the water crisis in flint. the city' s mayor and city leaders will address their plans on a volunteer initiative during a press conference at the m.a. folkes company. organizers reference how hamilton has been voted to have the best water at international tasting contests and they hope to share what they' ve learned with the people in flint, michigan. an exhibit at the national zoo in washington remains closed after a chemical explosion. officials say a contract worker -- work was being performed and routine maintenance between the otter and beaver exhibits when he smelled chlorine. the worker left, then heard a loud boom. officials say the explosion happened in a mechanical building that houses water-processing, filtration, and treatment system equipment. no people or animals were injured. after years of criticism seaworld says it' s putting an , end to its killer whale breeding program. 24 whales in three parks will be the last generation of orcas that seaworld will display in captivity. the change follows sharp criticism of seaworld practices
