be surprised with. 50s in many spots outside of the beltway. 59 now in stevenson. we're looking at a little bit of patchy fog there. doesn't look that impressive at least on the camera image. looking eastbound over a clear sky in catonsville, they are safely at 63. taking a look at 66 degrees across the inner harbor but most places north and west of the beltway starting the day in the 50s. even some thick fog. carroll, fredrick county and westbound there's a dense fog advisory that takes us through 9:00 a.m. otherwise we have a lot of sunshine and a quick warm-up on the thermometer. this afternoon with sunshine we'll get to our two-degree guarantee of 85. just a little bit below normal. 5:30. let's go to the roads with kim. >> i'm getting reports of a disabled vehicle on 95 southbound between 695 and the kenwood avenue overpass. also, there's a road closure in fredrick county, in smithburg, highway 17 at martin road closed in both directions because of debris in the roadway.

95 southbound, from harford county, running smoothly at this time. this traffic report brought to you by, baltimore's country station 93.1 wpoc, where you'll find music from great stars. back to you. authorities want to know what happened after two teens are found on the light rail tracks, one dead, one injured. abc's brittney gordon has the latest on the investigation. good morning. >> reporter: mta officials say they never received any reports of a train hitting anyone yesterday. but two teenaged boys were found laying on the tracks in lutherville and one is dead. mta officials say that the two teens were found on the southbound tracks close to the lutherville station. one boy is dead, the other seriously injured. they were found around 3:00 p.m. on sunday after a fair inspector spotted them. mta did not receive any reports of a train hitting anyone at the station and an inspection of the trains show no obvious signs of an accident. but one passenger thinks he noticed when it happened.

>> just clear cut that they hit somebody. you could feel it. thump, thump, thump. and, before you you know it -- but the police didn't show up for a while though. when they showed up and the medevac rolled away that's when i knew that something was wrong. >> reporter: mta officials do not think that the boys were passengers. they are still investigating how they ended up on the tracks. brittney gordon, abc2 news. in florida, the monorail system at walt disney world remains closed after one of its drivers was killed. the 21-year-old driver died when he was transporting passengers after fourth of july celebrations wrapped up. six passengers were on the train, none were hurt. there have been other accidents in the monorail's 35-year history but this is the first time that someone has died. in international news -- more violence continues in china today as 140 people are reported dead and nearly a thousand protesters from a muslim ethnic group rioted in 9

country's far west region. muslim exyou'll groups say the -- exile groups say it started after peaceful protests by a thousand ethnic protesters. and in honduras the president there has been blocked from returning to his country. manuel zalaya returned briefly there and then was told by officials he had to turn the plane around. a moneymaking tradition finds itself in the spotlight, called ellison begging. animal rights groups insist it's cruel. they say it causes all sorts of stress to the animal. the money, it's hoped the elephants will eventually be returned to the wild. here's a look at what is happening today, july 6th. mayor sheila dixon set to announce record sales and hotel bookings for the city. senator mccullsky holds a

press conference to announce funding she's put the federal checkbook for a new statewide work force development in maryland. towson university will be welcoming new additions including new students, new buildings and a whole other university. towson signed an agreement with baltimore hebrew university to start the baltimore hebrew institute at towson university. the programs are jewish studies, jewish education and jewish communal services. they are expected to start in the fall of 2009. the three programs being brought to towson include both masters and doctorate degrees. gm is on the fast track of getting out of bankruptcy. and the treasury department says it's done it in just a few days. plus, parishioners at a local church get a sense of normalcy back after fire destroys part of their buildings. we're going to take a live look outside now, 58 degrees, 97% humidity. we'll find out if a warm-up is on the way but now let's send it over to the mta's kurt kronke. good morning.

welcome back to "good morning maryland." if you went down to dc this weekend look at this -- you may have caught a glimpse of abraham lincoln. not the monument, a more cheesy version. it's a cheese one, actually. a real-life statue of honest abe was unveiled this weekend. tourists got to take in the cheddar sculpture which was carved from a thousand-pound block of cheese. turned out it was no match for the weather. may have seemed cool but his head had to be reattached because it melted with the cheese. we're going to send to it justin to find out if there's any cheese-melting weather ahead. >> anything right now would be cheesy. yeah. 5:39. good morning, our wake-up window at the bottom of the screen. let's take you out to parkville. we are looking at the bob

time now 5:44. mta officials have a lot of questions after one teen killed, another serious hurt by a light rail train. it appears that way. brittney gordon has the latest on the ongoing investigation. >> reporter: the mta spent the night investigating exactly what happened. they are still trying to figure out exactly how those boys ended up on their tracks. the teens were found around 3:15 sunday afternoon on the southbound tracks near the lutherville station. one boy has died. the other is seriously injured. an mta fare inspector on a northbound train noticed them

on the tracks but no one had reported anyone being hit on the rails. the mta has inspected the trains and found no obvious signs of an accident. but their investigation continues. >> we are fairly confident they were not passengers. we just don't know what circumstances led them to being on the track. none of our operators reported any incidents. >> reporter: the boys' names have yet to be released. brittney gordon, abc2 news. let's take a look at some of the other stories abc2 news is working on for you. police are calling the shooting death of former nfl quarterback steve mcnair a homicide but have not reached a conclusion about the death of the 20-year-old woman who was found with him. nashville police spokes "people" said sahel kazemi was killed with a single gunshot wound, the pistol found near her body. he was shot four times, twice in the head, played most of his career with the tennessee titans before being traded to

the ravens and retired last year. a total of 8,700 people have been chosen to get their tickets to michael jackson's memorial service in los angeles. officials say they expect that most of them will take off from work today to pick up their two tickets and get fitted for a special wrist band. tomorrow morning they will need both tickets and wrist band that hasn't been tampered with. abc will broadcast tomorrow's memorial service for michael jackson. the service starts at 2:00 in the afternoon. eastern standard time. but starting 1:00 p.m. charles gibson will anchor an abc special coverage calling it "remembering michael jackson." you can see it tomorrow on abc2 news. former washington, dc mayor marion barry is denying charges he stalked a woman. united states park police arrested barry yesterday after a woman flagged down an officer and complained that barry had been stalking her. barry was charged with a misdemeanor and a spokesman called the accusations baseless.

and also said barry tried to help the woman with troubles in the past. barry is 73 years old, and is now a dc city council member. members of the bethel ame church started their week on a good note despite a fire that destroyed the steeple. investigators say a lightning strike is to blame for last week's fire but parishioners are not disheartened in in i way -- in any way. they had their service yesterday at pier 6 pavilion. the focus of the certainlyon was the fire and -- sermon was the fire and working together to rebuild. >> we had a fire in everybody's house. if you're in between fires keep on living. but you will experience more than one fire in your life. >> reporter: on wednesdaylike struck the -- lightning struck the steep of the church -- steeple of the church. >> it didn't strike the sanctuary or the administrative

offices. parishioners will be notified about where to meet for next week's service. the deal for general motors has gotten the go ahead from a bankruptcy judge. allows gm to sell most of its assets to a new company. thus getting out from under some of their obligations. no word yet though if opponents to the deal might appeal to a higher court but the treasury department vowed to cut off funding to general motors if the sale does not go through by july 10th. we'll keep you posted. 5:48. temperatures well below normal. 58 at the top of the hour at bwi marshall. 59 in york. 70 in norfolk. we share the chill with western sections of maryland and pennsylvania this morning. under clear skies that basically have allowed all that little bit of heat we had yesterday at 77 degrees to pull back into the 50s. cloud cover beginning to work

its way often the coast with the tim departing off the carolina coastline. we still have a persistent pattern with low pressure locked across southern and eastern sections of canada. that piles in the chilly air across the great lakes and down here across the mid-atlantic is what we've been stuck with. that same old storm track continues. we're going to watch this system slide off the coast. and mostly sunny skies for most of us today. tomorrow, forecast model indicating there may actually be showers trying to swing through with a cold front during the afternoon hours. better chance of rain further north and east but overall that shot will be there as this cold front pulls through and behind that we should have a dry pattern and try to get temperatures at least back to near normal levels by the end of the week or into the weekend. today we warm back up in a hurry to 85 degrees under mostly sunny skies. tonight we'll cool back to 62. not nearly as chilly as many of us are dealing with this morning. tomorrow, after a sunny start turns mostly cloudy with a chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon.

the temperature back to near 85. 80 degrees on wednesday. 79 on thursday. another shot at chilly air coming back in here and then again by the weekend we'll try to warm back at least into the mid-80s but no summer heat to be found. in fact all the numbers still running below normal through the weekend. 5:50. let's check the roads with kim. >> thank you. as we check 83 southbound, everything is running smoothly through parkton all the way down to north avenue. let's give you the latest on earlier incidents. 95 southbound, that earlier disabled vehicle now reported to be approaching the harbor tunnel and it is blocking the left lane and police are on the scene so keep an eye out if you travel in that direction. in fredrick county, route 17 at martin road, that is in smithburg, has been reopened in both directions. it was closed earlier due to debris in the road but that has since been cleared. checking 95 southbound making your way through howard county towards the capitol beltway things are running smoothly. also running smoothly through route 29 southbound as you make

your way down through howard, through to montgomery county. back to you. time now 5:50. it's been seven years since u.s. and russian leaders held a summit but as abc's emily schmidt reports, president barack obama and the russian leaders will end that hiatus today. >> reporter: president obama heads to the kremlin today for a scheduled four-hour meeting with russia's president. that's the first summit of its kind in the last seven years. >> i think that there has been a time over the last several years where russian/u.s. relations were not as strong as they should be. what i said coming in is i wanted to press the reset button on relations between the united states and russia. >> reporter: mr. obama and medvedev each head into the meeting with plans to cut nuclear weapons. it's important because an existing treaty regulating the number of long range weapons --

listen to this -- a 17-year-old girl in iowa created a somewhat senior living atmosphere for her pets a duck named sterling, and her yellow lab cleo have become the best of friends. what is interesting is sterling is a different kind of duck, a roan which is primarily a domestic duck. the owner says six months ago sterling's partner passed away and she could see the duck was lonely so started following around the dog. even sharing their dinner together like you see there. cleo's dog food, they are munching on it and even spend their nights together. a little friendship for you this morning. stay with us. the 6:00 news is just ahead. but in the meantime, we're going to take a live look outside and check the temperatures.
