county, this is riverside parkway, increased volume but lighter than normal and running smoothly at this time. back to you. a teenager dead, another lies in the hospital after a light rail accident this morning. investigators still don't know exactly what happened. abc2 news brittney gordon joins us now with the latest. >> reporter: mta officials say they never received any reports of a train hitting anyone yesterday. the two teenaged boys were found lying on the tracks in lutherville and one is now dead. mta officials say the two teens were found on the southbound tracks close to the lutherville station. one parkway is dead, the other seriously injured. they were found around 3:00 p.m. on sunday after a fair inspector spotted them. mta did not receive any reports of a train hitting anyone at that station and an inspection of the trains shows no obvious signs of an accident. but one passenger thinks he noticed when it happened. >> it was clear cut they hit somebody. you could feel it, thump,

thump, thump. and, before you know it -- but the police didn't show up for a while though. when they showed up and the medevac rolled away that's when i knew something was wrong. >> reporter: mta officials do not think the boys were passengers. they are still investigating how they ended up on the tracks. brittney gordon, abc2 news. dozens have been killed as tensions erupt in violence in northwest china. thousands rioted today in the capital of a mainly muslim region of china. state media reporting that 140 people have been killed, more than 800 injured. it is barack obama's first trip to russia as a u.s. president but it's not official and it's not your typical foreign visit. mr. obama is taking his family hoping to come to a better relationship with moscow. here's abc's emily schmidt. >> reporter: president obama heads to the kremlin today for a scheduled four-hour meeting with russia's president.

as the first summit of its kind in the last seven years. >> i think that there has been a time over the last several years where russian/u.s. relations were not as strong as they should be. what i he -- said coming in is i want to press the reset button on the relations between the united states and russia. >> reporter: obama and medvedev each head into the meeting with plans to cut nuclear weapons. the existing treaty regulating the number of long range weapons for each nation fired. >> i think it shows people want to see better relationships on a geopolitical basis. >> reporter: the u.s. president will negotiate matters between two countries with two russian leaders. medvedev is the president but prime minister putin is regarded as a key decisionmaker. obama will meet with putin even

though protocol doesn't demand the visit. >> obama would spend better time with mr. putin. >> reporter: the leaders will also discuss north korea, iran and afghanistan. the u.s. hopes russia will lend territory and air space to help fight the taliban. emily schmidt, abc news, washington. it's a real estate deal that sounds too good to be true. it's estimated this house in dallas, texas would sell for $500,000 if it were in perfect shape but the current owner says he'll give it away to anyone who can move it. >> to move it they would actually cut the top and cut one of the sides, is what the movers told me. then put the three pieces on a trailer and then haul them off. >> here's the deal -- we're told it will cost $100,000 to move the house. it's been on the market for three years. while plenty of people checked it out there still have been no buyers. abc2 news is working for

put down your coffee and look at the tv. this is something you have to see to believe. it's a race with a twist. it's called the world wife carrying championship. it is exactly what it sounds like. committed racers run around jumping obstacles while holding their wives. 36 competitors from 13 different nations came to finland to compete in this event. 10,000 people watched this race which is in its 14th year. a lot of guys in our studio right now shaking their heads. now to something unusual. a little closer to home. a cheesy life-sized statue of abraham lincoln was unveiled at the nation's capital. tourists took in the cheddar sculpture near the lincoln memorial, carved from a thousand-pound block of ched are -- cheddar cheese. no match for the weather. the head had to be re-attached because it melted with the warm

good morning. i'm megan pringle. it's monday, july 6th. here are the top stories we're working on -- ravens fans and the rest of the sports world still in shock over the shooting death of steve mcnair. we'll have the latest on the investigation. we're also going to update you on the preparations for michael jackson's service in los angeles. and the latest on that light rail accident in baltimore county that left one teen dead, another seriously hurt. these stories and much more. coming up now let's go to justin with a first check of the forecast. good morning. >> good morning. 6:43. looking around the area, hard-pressed to really find a lot of this thick fog but there's a dense fog advisory and there may be patches that

are mighty thick basically from carroll, fredrick county and westbound, that goes through 9:00 a.m. otherwise this morning, looking at summit summit in mount airy, 59 degrees, the sun is up so at least in that location no fog to be found but some of the interior valley locations may have had that fog. overall clear skies across most of central maryland and chesapeake bay rain. lower eastern shore and down towards the beaches is where they have leftover clouds but otherwise sunshine should dominate as we have that one storm system keeping with us clouds yesterday with the temperatures stuck in the 70s and we are watching this system skirt out to sea. tomorrow we'll have another shot at showers. this upper level cool chilly pattern will provide one more cold front and that's with a little split in the computer model indicating there may be some clouds and some showers trying to roll in tomorrow afternoon. as we roll up the coast, better chance of the rain but otherwise this is just going to reinforce that chilly air for the middle and latter part of the week. setup for today, our two-degree

guarantee does get us back to 85. so thanks to the relatively low humidity and a lot of sunshine we should warm back to near normal but not quite at normal territory which would be 87. tonight we slip back to the low 60s. not as chilly as it is this morning. for tomorrow, well, again, look for increasing clouds and chance of an afternoon shower once again back to about 85. we'll check out the extended forecast in a couple of minutes. right now here's kim with a check of the roads. we're still dealing with a lighter than normal monday morning commute but i doubt we'll have complaints from the drivers out there on the roads. as you check out the harbor tunnel and fort mchenry tunnel, they are checking in without incident. headed to the dc area, we have building volume on 95 southbound, southbound on the bw parkway and southbound on route 29, however, no incidents or major delays to let you know with right now. harford county at riverside parkway, probably our busiest spot, we have building volume and slowing on 95 between whitemarsh boulevard and the beltway but no problems to let you know about at this time.

back to you. a mysterious light rail accident killed a teenager and leaves another in the hospital this morning. investigators still don't know exactly what happened. abc2 news brittney gordon joins us now with the latest. >> reporter: the mta spent the night investigating exactly what happened. they are still trying to figure out how those boys ended up on the tracks. the teens were found around 3:15 sunday afternoon on the southbound tracks near the lutherville station. one boy died. the other is seriously injured. an mta fare inspector on a northbound train noticed them on the tracks but no one had reported being hit on the rails. the mta has inspected the trains and found no obvious signs of an accident but their investigation continues. >> we are fairly confident they were not passengers. we just don't know what circumstances led them to being on the tracks. none of our operators report any incidents. >> reporter: the boys' names

have yet to be released. brittney gordon, abc2 news. a 5-year-old baltimore girl remains in critical condition this morning after being shot in the head. happened last week. happened after several teens got into a fight on south pulaski street in southwest west baltimore. police say 17-year-old lamont davis started shooting, a bullet struck the girl in the head. davis now charged with attempted murder, assault and gun violations. controversy follows former washington, dc mayor marion barry because he's accused of following a woman and stalking her. u.s. park police arrested barry on saturday after a woman flagged down an officer and complained that barry had been following her in a car. he's 73 years old. now a dc city council member. police in nashville, tennessee, calling the death of former nfl quarterback a homicide but not yet ready to say anything about the death of the 20-year-old girlfriend that was found in the home. they are not saying whether it was a suicide or not. her body found near mcnair's

with a single bullet wound to the head. police say they were reviewing every possibility before labeling her death. >> right now, still in disbelief a little bit but it's just the idea -- just to know he's gone, and in a state of shock. i think the whole community and everybody's in disbelief right now. >> reporter: mcnair was married with four children. around the country steve mcnair will probably be remembered more for his time in tennessee where the titans came within a yard of winning the super bowl in 2000. but he still holds a very special place in the hearts of baltimore sports fans after leaving the ravens -- leading the ravens to a 13-3 record in 2006. >> it's shocking when you hear any sports celebrity pass away especially in the way he did. >> i was very sad to hear that. i mean, we don't know the whole

story yet but i was really sad with the suicide part. >> more than 1.6 million people registered for tickets for michael jackson's memorial service in los angeles but this morning only 17,500 of them are making plans to attend. those selected will pick up their tickets along with a wrist band and most of them need to present both for admission tomorrow. tickets also started popping up on e-bay. one pair going for more than $1,500. abc will broadcast the live service beginning at 1:00 p.m. charles gibson will anchor special coverage, called "remembering michael jackson." see it here on abc2. members of a baltimore church will gather for their first service since lightning sparked a fire that destroyed the church steeple.

bethel ame church in west baltimore. but yesterday's service was held at peer 6 pavilion at the inner harbor. >> we're just all grateful to hear it was just the steeple and there didn't appear to be damage to the sanctuary. we began to pray from wherever we were. >> members of the congregation hope to return to the sanctuary in three weeks. they will be contacted about where to meet for next week's service. millions of dollars that may have gone to charity all go up in flames instead. here's the house that -- how it looked before the fire. its owner planning to auction it off with an estimated value of $4 million. parrot seeds would have gone to a children'sise -- the proceeds would have gone to a children's crisis center in phoenix, arizona. but another interesting part of the story, the homeowners managed to escape the flames by using his own air source. >> he had scuba gear outside in the front with him. if it saved his life or what, i

don't know. >> the raffle was supposed to happen last week but was postponed because of low ticket sales. no word on what caused the fire this morning. a bankruptcy judge says general motors can sell the bulk of its assets to a new company clearing the way for the automaker to quickly emerge from bankruptcy. a judge ruled last night that the sale is needed to avoid immediate and irreparable harm to gm. the treasury department has vowed to cut off funding to gm if the sale does not go through by july 10th. seeing tiger woods win a golf tournament is nothing new but seeing what he did after winning, well, that is new. >> as host i always wanted to do this, ok, so just bear with me. tiger, how did you play today? [ applause ] >> interviewing himself. all right. on the streets of bangkok, thailand, a money-making tradition now finds itself in the spotlight. it's called elephant begging and while the trade can support a family authorities are trying to stop this after years of animal rights groups insisting that its cruel. they say it causes stress to the elephants, that you can see that -- but the money to stop the trade is coming from thailand's queen and its hoped that the elephants will eventually be returned to the wild. a 17-year-old girl in iowa created a somewhat senior living atmosphere for her pets. she has a duck named sterling, a yellow lab named cleo. they have become the best of friends. what's interesting is that sterling is a different kind of duck. a roan, primarily a domestic duck. they have partners for life and apparently six months ago sterling's partner passed away.

and the 17-year-old girl could see her duck was very lonely. so, she introduced sterling to cleo and look at that. they are palling around, sharing a meal. cleo actually shares the dog food with the duck. and they even spend the night together. 6:53. good morning. we look outside with temperatures trying to come out of the 50s in many spots. a chilly start to the day. even patchy fog in carroll and fredrick county. even parts of baltimore county but that will be taken care of in a hurry, looking for sunshine to carry us into the afternoon. two-degree guarantee gets us to 85 this afternoon. that is still below normal but definitely a nice recovery from yesterday where we just barely got to 77. overnight, slipping into the low 60s. not as chilly as this morning. 85 tomorrow, will come with increasing clouds and maybe an afternoon shower, a stray shower could pop up on

wednesday as we're back for about 80 degrees and lows again in the 50s. 79 on thursday. and we'll slip back into the low 80s by friday. next weekend no heat to be found. still below normal but we'll try to get back to the mid-80s with scattered afternoon thunderstorms. 6:53. let's check the roads, besides sun glare. here's kim. >> eastbound on the outer loop, some sun glare, however, pretty uneventful monday morning rush hour. around the beltway, west side between liberty road and i-70, running smoothly. also looking good southbound on 83, down from the pennsylvania state line through to the beltway. no problems to let you know about at this time and the jfx is looking good from northern parkway down to north avenue. this is 95 southbound in harford county, getting a little bit of increased volume there, that is probably our busiest spot at this time but that is normal as you make your way through the whitemarsh area to the beltway and 895 split. hope you had a great

holiday weekend. i wanted to ask you, because one of the big weather stories this morning has -- really all summer long, that the temperatures are lower. that is good news though because every summer we always hear how dry it is and there's a drought. are we at least in good shape? >> the trees in my yard explodeing with growth. i would love to hear from somebody else. we had a wet may. really wet june. i don't think it's been too oppressive in the last couple of weeks, as far as i understand it things are growing pretty well, even the mosquito population, which is expected to thrive hasn't been too bad because it hasn't been too warm out there. 50s in the morning helps to cut down the mosquito population. >> you can mow your lawn, too, without there being any kind of environmental danger there. >> a couple times a week. you kind of have to. you brought up good points. if you have something else to say about that by all means e-mail me. >> have a great morning. see you at 9:00. i never thought it could happen to me...
