rail traffic, including amtrak, has been stopped in that area. officials say the leak was apparently caused by construction work. no injuries have been reported. a bge spokesperson says no residential service has been affected. he says it's hoped the repairs can be made in a couple of hours, but train traffic is delayed. a grieving father still has no answers tonight as he prepares to bury his son and his step-son. kyle wankmiller and connor peterson were struck two times by two light rail trains this past weekend. both of them died. mta says the trains struck them from behind, but the question from the family tonight, how did the operator not see the teenagers and why didn't he stop? abc 2 news brian kuebler asked that question to mta's top official. >> reporter: gary peterson has to endure the unbelievable pain of burying his son and soon to be step-son this weekend. more heartache than any one parent should bear. >> it is devastating.

to lose two children in 24 hours, and have to go through this in three days. >> reporter: with still no answers as to how this could even conceivably happen, mta said yesterday that a camera mounted on the front of the train shows the teens were hit from the back as they walked along the track. according to mta, that train kept moving only for a second train to hit the teens again. it was this crew on the second light rail that stopped and found the bodies. but peterson can't understand why the first train never stopped, why nobody never checked. >> there is no excuse for this happening. you got to know you hit somebody. you got to know. >> the cameras on the top of the cars, and they show the individuals walking up the track right away. >> understand from the family's point of view, they want to know how the driver didn't see that very same exact deal.

>> and that's what the investigation is going do show us. >> reporter: mt administrator paul wheatfelt didn't have an answer today. mta continues to say how and why this accident happened is still very much under investigation. there are still many questions without answers. >> i do want an answer, from the mta. i want an answer as soon as possible. these are my babies. >> reporter: peterson says it is the only thing he can hope for as he plans to bury both of his boys within just three days. in baltimore, brian kuebler, abc 2 news. >> both train operators remain off-duty pending the outcome of this investigation. the mta has also asked baltimore county police to take the lead in this investigation, and they have reached out to the ntsb and the federal transit administration for experts to reconstruct how this happened. tonight maryland health officials are reporting the second death in our state linked to swine flu. authorities say the victim is a

baltimore metro area adult with serious underlying medical conditions. the state's first swine flu- related death was an elderly baltimore resident who also had significant health issues. to date, health officials say 686 cases of h1n1 flu virus have been confirmed in maryland. now to a developing story. today loyal steve mcnair fans remembered him on the field he played on for much of his career. this on the same day as new information is released on how he was killed. abc 2 news carin redman is standing by with more. >> reporter: mcnair is also a former ravens quarterback, was remembered at the nashville stadium where he spent much of his 13-year nfl career. this on the same day that nashville police say he was killed by his 20-year-old girlfriend. steve mcnair, the four-time pro bowl quarterback spent two years with the ravens and most of his nfl career as a tennessee titan was remembered today. the titans front office opened

the field in nashville for fans to come and watch video highlights, look at photos and sign a memorial that will be given to his family. >> i can't even imagine how his family is feeling. it's hard. >> reporter: mcnair and sahel kazemi, the 20-year-old woman he was dating, were both found dead early saturday morning from gunshot wounds. dr. fang lee, the medical examiner who performed the autopsy on mcnair and kazemi says mcnair was found in a seated position on a sofa. >> one gunshot wound on the right temple is a close range. and the other three gunshot wounds, one to the left side of the eye and the other two to the torso are distant range. >> reporter: just hours ago, nashville police held a press conference to say after four days of investigation, they have concluded that kazemi killed mcnair and then shot herself. >> mcnair was seated on the sofa and was likely asleep. and we believe kazemi shot him in the right temple, then shot

him twice in the chest, and shot him a final time in the left temple. >> reporter: investigators also say in the days before the shooting, kazemi became very distraught and told friends she wanted to end it all. >> we also have reason to believe that kazemi recently learned before this day that she believed mcnair was involved with another woman, and that too participated in her state of mind, we think. >> reporter: meanwhile, a close associate of mcnair's was out today saying he had no plans to divorce, and his wife of 12 years had no idea he was having an affair. now drug tests on mcnair and kazemi will be released in the coming weeks. meanwhile, a memorial service will take place tomorrow in nashville for mcnair followed by a funeral service in mississippi on saturday. carin redman, abc 2 news. police are investigating a shooting in northwest baltimore. it happened shortly after 12:30 on air del avenue. the man was shot in the leg and ran to a nearby wall greens. he was taken to an area

hospital and is expected to be okay. so far no suspects in the case. parents and students rallied this morning outside of towson catholic high school to try to stop officials from closing it down. teachers were officially notified today that the 86-year- old high school was to be closed. the diocese says the enrollment dropped by 1/3 from last year, and the school was already running a deficit. students and parents say towson catholic was more than just a school, but a family. and they want the archdiocese to reconsider. >> it opened doors for me. i grades improved. i met people. i found friends i'll keep the rest of my life, friends and teachers. and to find out it's closing in my last year, it's like a part of me died. >> the archdiocese says they will meet with parents next tuesday to discuss options for their students. a spokesman says other catholic high schools will be encouraged to take towson catholic students at the same tuition rate for at least one year. several break-ins at the

park and ride in white marsh have one baltimore county couple pretty fired up. after returning from a new york city bus trip this weekend, the couple's car was broken into. they blame it on a parking pass they had to leave on their dashboard. the pass is for all mega bus customers and requires them to fill in the departure and the return date. a mega bus spokesman says the mta requires the pass and the couple says it made them an easy target. >> we just stood there for a couple of seconds, and we weren't even surprised. we knew we had the bulls-eye painted on our car, and it happened exactly what we thought would happen, having this in the car. >> an mta spokeswoman says their agency will contact mega bus to work on improving that pass. another nice day across the baltimore area. and right now maryland's most powerful radar not indicating any precipitation around. but by late friday night, early

saturday morning, there will be some much needed rain. it's getting a little dry out there. but here is your forecast for the next couple hours. look for partly cloudy skies, temperatures hanging in tupper 70s. mild temperatures for this time of the year. how long are the nice temperatures going to last? we've got the answer coming up. and we are following our breaking news from baltimore county there has been a fire at the suburban house restaurant in pikesville. our delia goncalves is on or live near the scene now and joins us with more. >> reporter: we just arrived in the 900 block of reisterstown road. i want to get out of the shot and show you what it looks like. you can see it's still very active. about an hour or so after this fire first started, just before 5:00, we are told firefighters have knocked out flames. but you can see continue to work on the roof. continuing to douse hot spots. what we're told, just before 5:00, an flow of the restaurant was inside the storage room located right next door at 917

reisterstown road, smelled smoke inside a storage room, quickly ran out into the restaurant and got everyone out. we're told there were 35 people inside the restaurant who evacuated safely. those 35 people included customers and employees. thankfully they're all out safely we can tell you this evening there is heavy fire and smoke damage inside that storage room at 917. and we're told the restaurant just suffered some minor smoke damage. of course, we are waiting for investigators to arrive here on the scene to determine exactly what was the cause of this fire in the storage room, we're told. simple restaurant supplies, kitchen supplies, canned goods and pots and pans. certainly lots of people in the community very upset. this has been a staple, the suburban house has been a tape until this pikesville community for a very long time, for many decades. they're very concerned, but thankfully everyone got out safely. for now live in pikesville,

delia goncalves, abc 2 news. >> i know you had to make there it on reisterstown road. what is traffic like? >> reporter: traffic is backed up. we were approaching probably at milford mill, and that is completely shut down. and the slade road area actually before you hit the golf course, you're going to have to detour left or right. they're blocking several streets off at this point. so i'm going to say maybe about six blocks on the -- on reisterstown road surrounding the 900 block. so really slade road, probably up until milford mill or even beyond is blocked off at this point as the investigation continues. >> all right, delia, thank you. you know, lately we're hearing more animal cruelty incidents like the case of phoenix, the pit bull that was set on fire and killed. today mayor sheila dixon announced the creation of an anti-animal abuse task force. this is a team of city officials. animal control, animal rights groups and the public working together. they will find a message to

the city of baltimore is spreading the word that there will be no trash pickup next monday. so everything can be ready for tuesday, july 14th and the start of the new one plus one collection schedule. as abc 2 news brittney gordon reports, there are still plenty of residents who are in the dark. >> reporter: the loud sound of the trash truck is probably not your favorite. but pretty soon some city residents will be missing the sound as the city starts one plus one collections. too bad some don't even know what one plus one is. have you heard about the one plus one? >> not yet. >> reporter: you haven't gotten a postcard in the mail or anything like that? >> no. >> reporter: for those who do not know, one plus one is the

new way that your trash will be picked up. instead of twice weekly pickup, you will now only get to put your regular trash out once a week. the city says the move will save millions. in addition, the city is also adding one day for the pickup of your recyclables. keith allen has no problem with recycling. he just wonders what is going to happen to all the trash. >> what are they going to do with the overflow? >> reporter: thomas gil wonders the same thing. >> one-day trash weekly. it will be as big as me. already some half big as me already. >> reporter: clearly, a lot of baltimoreians still have questions about this new trash pickup plan. the question is where are you supposed to turn? at a press conference this morning, mayor dixon seemed to have it down. >> i received my postcard last week. my recycling is wednesday, and my trash is friday. >> we're enlightening everybody about the new one plus one crash day. >> reporter: the city has been

early saturday morning giving us some shower and maybe even some thunderstorm activity. as far as our look at maryland's most powerful radar, no precipitation around the region right now. things are looking really good across the region. right now in manchester 75. 76 in reisterstown. towson 76. 76 in edgemere, centreville 79. and i know it's hiding behind the abc 2. but it is 79. and 76 in aberdeen. northeast right now at 75 degrees. here is your forecast for tonight. a few little light clouds. they dissipate during the day tomorrow. almost a carbon copy of today. lots of sunshine around. showers remain down to the south of us. and once we get along into friday and saturday, we see some showers start to move in our direction. most of the shower activity will be in early saturday morning, lasting through the day on saturday and into sunday. your forecast for tonight, mostly clear, 58 for the low. during the day tomorrow partly cloudy. below normal temperatures continue with a high of 80. the 80 tomorrow is followed on friday with late night showers, 81 degrees. 85, scattered showers and thunderstorms on saturday.

same thing on sunday with a high of 82. monday, tuesday, and wednesday things start to clear up and warm up. we'll talk again tonight at 11:00. michael vick may return to the playing field when his federal sentence for dogfighting ends july 20th. the president and founder of the minor football league says the former atlanta falcons quarterback would be welcomed if he doesn't head back to the nfl. the mfl has professional teams in maryland, washington, d.c., virginia, and pennsylvania. national police have now confirmed steve mcnair and sahel kazemi died as a result of a murder-suicide. the bullets encasings coming from the gun kazemi purchased last thursday night. police say kazemi shot mcnair four times while he was sleeping on a couch, and then sat down next to him and shot herself. she apparently suspected mcnair was seeing another woman and was overwhelmed by money issues. friends told police she said quote, she was going to end it all.

>> there is no doubt. we believe now at this time that mcnair was seated on the sofa, and likely was asleep. and we believe that kazemi shot him in the right temple, then shot him twice in the chest, and then shot him a final time with the left temple. kazemi then positioned herself next to mcnair on the sofa and shot herself once in the right temple and expired. >> apparently kazemi also posted her furniture on craigslist last thursday, the same night she allegedly bought the gun. robert gattty, mcnair's friend who called 911 today said mcnair had no intentions of ever leaving his wife. the titans opened up lt field to give a chance to pay tribute. hundreds of fans watched highlights and signed a book which they shea will be given to the mcnair family. good news for jeremy guthrie. the orioles starter left in the third looking like he was laboring. he says there is no injury, he

just has been battling flu-like symptoms. o's in seattle. bottom 1, jose lopez, a 2-run home run off david hernandez in the bottom of the first. put the mariners on top early, 2-0. the o's threatened a couple of times in this game. top third, 2 on for the o's. but jason vargas has been fantastic as nolan reimold swinging to get out of the jam. then in the top of the 4th, again, the o's have two on. vargas gets adam jones. right now they're in the sixth. the mariners lead this one 2-0. and finally, michael phelps is back in the pool, swimming at the u.s. nationals in indianapolis. phelps not surprisingly qualified first in the 200- meter butterfly and the 200- meter freestyle. he'll swim in the finals tonight. he already holds world records. katie hoff also qualified for the 200 free. that's sports. i'm rob carlin. we wrap up the news right after
