paca elementary. brittney gordon is on the scene, and she will be bringing us a live report right now. brittney? >> reporter: hey, marybeth. we're out here at william paca elementary school, where in just the last hour police found their man. they found him in a cabinet beneath a sink at the school. apparently he has been there all day long. this was not an average day of summer learning for students as their teachers walked them away from their school to safety. reports of a police drug suspect at their school sent parents running. >> i just threw the phone down, and i think i turned it off. i don't know. i got to go get my baby. i couldn't find my keys so i walked over. >> i was going nuts, banging on my neighbor's door telling her to come get her kids. that's it. >> reporter: this all began just before 10 a.m. police officers had responded to a call for drug dealing in the 100 block of lakewood. while questioning their suspect, they found out he had a warrant for a probation

violation, but before they could react: >> that suspect then got up and ran from the officers, we believe into the school. >> reporter: for hours s.w.a.t. and k-9 teams swept through the school and patrolled the surrounding area, looking for the suspect. a staff member at william paca did report seeing a strange person run through, but there is no word yet on how a stranger could have gained entry into an elementary school. police spent the afternoon searching the grounds. >> they're going room by room, checking ceiling panels as well as the basement area to make sure that he is not in there, or like i said, take him into custody. >> reporter: all right. like i said earlier, he has been taken into custody there are about 200 students inside of the school at the time when all of this was going on. they were evacuated, and now they can go back tomorrow morning to continue with their summer classes. live in baltimore, i'm brittney gordon, abc 2 news. a long-time soccer coach in baltimore county has been

arrested for soliciting sex from a 13-year-old girl. 32-year-old charles friedel who goes by chuck was arrested. it was the sister of a girl he coaches. he also coaches at our lady of mount carmel in essex where he is a parishioner. the girl's father contacted police after friedel allegedly sent inappropriate text messages and nude pictures of himself to the girl. he was arrested at the royal pharmacy store in essex. >> his assumption was he was going do have sex with this 14- year-old girl. he in fact arrived at this meeting place. undercover officers were there. he was taken into custody and arrested. >> friedel is free on bond tonight. police believe there could be more victims, and anyone with information is asked to call the crimes against children unit at 410-853-3650. we'll have more on the story coming up at 6.

state prosecutors have withdrawn three subpoenas in their case against baltimore city mayor sheila dixon. attorneys for dixon filed a motion this week, challenging the subpoenas is, arguing that prosecutors were abusing the grand jury process. the subpoenas were for two city employees and one former city employee. dixon is accused of stealing gift cards that had been donated to the needy. a judge threw out 5 of the original 12 charges against her back in may. fans are lining up around a nashville funeral home to pay their last respects to former nfl star steve mcnair before tonight's memorial service. mcnair was shot and killed last week by his 20-year-old girlfriend who then killed herself. in a few hours, lp field will be open to the public. a video tribute will be shown. and fans will be able to write messages in a book for the mcnair family. close friends, teammates, and his wife are all expected to attend. in the meantime tonight, there is still no word on where the king of pop may be laid to rest, and if whereabouts of michael jackson's body is a

tightly kept secret. some close to the singer say his choice would have been the neverland ranch. another possibility is the forest lawn memorial gardens, which would require that fans get permission from their offices to visit. and now there are rumors that jackson's hometown of gary, indiana wants him buried there. tonight investigators are still trying to find the cause of a fire at a pikesville landmark. the fire at the suburban house restaurant started around 4:45 yesterday afternoon. firefighters say it started in the storage room filled with kitchen supplies and canned goods. the restaurant itself suffered heavy smoke damage. the owner says 35 people were inside the restaurant at the time of the fire. it was quickly evacuated. mark horowitz, who also runs a catering business says now he is just trying to get the business back on its feet. >> he got a lot of support from the community as far as people willing to contribute their location and any kind of support that we need, whatever

we need. all off suppliers are very much behind us. >> damage to the restaurant is estimated at $900,000. in york, pennsylvania, fire crews are working to find out what caused nearly an entire block of homes to go up in flames. in all, 12 row houses and 25 apartments were destroyed in yesterday's fire. that means 30 people and two dozen children don't have a home to go to tonight. the fire chief thinks the fire spread so fast because the row homes didn't have any firewalls. baltimore county police are now taking the lead in the investigation of two teenagers hit and killed by a light rail train. the mta took this step after the mother of one of the teens was concerned that the agency's police department would protect their own employees. the mta says connor peterson and kyle wankmiller, both 17, were walking on the tracks with their backs to a train when they were hit. the maryland transit administrator says he has full

confidence in the department, but was taking the steps out of respect to the family. a zero tolerance policy on cell phone or text messaging on the job. if an employee is caught using their cell phones while they're operating a train, they will be fired, even if it is a first offense. the mta made the decision after d.c. metro officials announced a similar change in which it got rid of its three strikes and you're out policy. an amtrak passenger train collided with a car near detroit, killing five people. the crash happened at a road crossing about 20 miles west of detroit. investigators say the train was heading north when it crossed the tracks and was hit pushing the car about 150 feet. the crossing area has a gate and flashing lights that were believed to be working at the time. the train carrying 150 people was on its way from detroit to chicago. five people in the car were killed. another nice day across the region with below normal temperatures once again. and right now maryland's most

powerful radar is not showing any precipitation near the baltimore area, but there are a few showers down to the southwest of us. as a matter of fact, across portions of virginia, near richmond, we're seeing a few showers there. all that shower activity will remain down to the south and not affect the baltimore area. your forecast for the next couple of hours. partly cloudy, mild, temperatures will hang around 80 degrees. it could be a few degrees kohler than that in some of the outlying areas over the next couple hours. but what about the weekend? we were talking about some rainfall. is it still going to rain? we'll tell you all about that, coming up. a controversy is brewing tonight in the philadelphia area. some children attending a summer camp discovered their membership at a private swim club was revoked in what some are calling a racial incident. the sign outside of the suburban philadelphia swim club encourages new members, but camp director althea wright says her michel was revoked. hers, along with 65 children. after registering online and paying a check for nearly $2,000, wright says when her

campers showed up for the first swim of the season, they were asked to leave. >> she said she don't want any black kids there and there is too many of them. >> what else could it be? we were the only minorities there. >> they refunded the camp swimming fees without any explanation. arlen spector is looking into why the children were turned away. the obama administration is telling states to start preparing their plans for giving out h1n1 or swine flu vaccines. health officials are bracing for a resurgence of the virus this fall. today the government is holding a swine flu summit in washington. the government announced a $350 million preparedness campaign to try to stop a major outbreak of the virus. >> we don't know exactly how the virus will present during the fall flu season. but our surveillance efforts have led scientists to believe that the impact of the virus could worsen this fall or

home yet. >> clooney says he is committed to helping the small town, and may even do a film about the tragic quake. now the forecast certified baltimore's most accurate. here is chief meteorologist norm lewis and maryland's most powerful doppler radar. >> i'm tired about talking how great it is out there. >> i tell you, absolutely gorgeous this time of year. normally we're sweltering with the heat. the southwest, they're taking it on the chin there are plenty of places that had ten plus days of 100 or more degrees. >> hail in kansas. >> oh, yeah. that's not unusual for kansas. the big thunderstorm activity. but around our region, things are looking pretty good. other things looking pretty good is our weekend. we originally thought that both saturday and sunday would be kind of washouts. not going to be the case. things are going to be looking a little better. still got some showers, but not a big deal. that's the way things are looking right now. let's take a look outside right now. a beautiful shot from harbor cam, overlooking the downtown area. our temperature across the area right now down at bwi thurgood marshall, 81 degrees.

evening. during the day tomorrow lots of sunshine, nice temperatures. saturday here comes a system making its way in our direction. it will line up with shower and thunderstorm activity with the heaviest stuff from central pennsylvania up into new york state. there is a chance we could see some showers here late saturday evening. here is your forecast. for the overnight period, mostly clear, showers to the south. you just saw them on the radar, but we're a long, long way. we'll see an overnight low of 63 degrees. during the day tomorrow, almost a carbon copy of today. high tomorrow of 82 degrees. and that is your 2-degree guarantee for tomorrow. your extended outlook, there is friday there is saturday. and on saturday, again, a chance for a thunderstorm in the evening time, lasting into sunday morning. the high on sunday a little bit cooler, 81 degrees. partly cloudy on monday, 83. tuesday looking pretty good at 86. then on wednesday and thursday, a chance for some showers moving back in. a little bit warmer but, still below normal temperatures for this time of the year. we'll be back in a little while with more on the weather.
