to those places. >> reporter: county councilman darryl jones is placing cameras at malls such as anne arundel mills and large big box shopping centers would help deter crime. so far this year eight people have been robbed in the parking lots at anne arundel mills, and with slots cameras would be a necessity. >> anne arundel mills is the site, security and cameras would be an issue. >> reporter: there are some stores in the county that do have cameras outside there. the giant has cameras there. but most of the stores on this end don't have anything. but they also have to remember that the cameras in front of the giant are more about loss prevention, and won't protect you if you get up in the parking lot. and for a lot of shoppers, cameras would definitely make them feel a bit more at's. fireworks you're in a public place, you're doing public things. so i don't feel like that it's invading my privacy. if it were my house, it's another thing. but being out here in a public place, i think it's a good thing. >> reporter: others liked the idea, but not if it's abused. they don't want cameras to be

used for gathering information on shoppers. but would having cameras really keep you from being a victim. >> i don't know if it would prevent anything. if something were to happen, it would be some footage of an act. of crime, i guess. that would be about it. i don't know that it would necessarily prevent anything. >> reporter: councilman jones says he'll continue to study baltimore county's law and propose his own version some time this fall. in severna park, roosevelt leftwich, abc 2 news. >> and roosevelt tells us several of the large malls in anne arundel county offered no comment about the proposal. tonight baltimore police want to find the man responsible for robbing the bank of america on north charles street near east lexington. that's downtown. it all happened around 11 this morning. police say the dye pack and the bag of money did explode, and they were able to recover all the stolen cash but, they weren't able to nab that robber. new at 5:30 tonight, federal prosecutors have dropped charges against former

washington, d.c. mayor marion berry. u.s. park police arrested berry saturday on charges he was stalking his ex-girlfriend, donna rice whitehoff. he says they were on the way to a 4th of july celebration when the ex-girlfriend decided she didn't want to go. the 73-year-old says he should not have been arrested, and that it has caused great pain to his family and to the community. now a look at tonight's top stories. baltimore's police found the man who forced the evacuation of william paca elementary school this morning. police cover discovered the man we're told hiding underneath the sink. he had run after he discovered there was a warrant out for him. a baltimore county soccer coach is accused of trying to have sex with an underaged girl. charles friedel was arrested at the royal pharmacy store in essex during an undercover sting tuesday. police say the victim was a sister of a girl friedel coaches from the greater

baltimore soccer club. friedel also coaches at our lady of mount carmel in essex where he is a parishioner. the girl's father contacted police after friedel allegedly sent inappropriate text messages and nude pictures of himself to the girl. friedel is free tonight on band. fans in nashville are lining toupee their last respects to former nfl star steve mcnair before tonight's memorial service. mcnair, as you know, was shot and killed last week by his 20- year-old girlfriend who then killed herself. in a few hours, lt field will be open to the public. a video tribute will be shown to fans, and they will be able to write messages in a book for the mcnair family. now to a developing story, and one that is quite disturbing from chicago. a gruesome graveyard plot has been unearthed. now four people are behind bars, facing serious charges. abc 2 news nicole collins has the details on the crime authorities say involved hundreds of bodies. >> this is my brother herbert

michael ray. he was buried here saturday, august 20, 1983. and this is where he is supposed to be at, and he is not there. >> reporter: a shock for brenda ray at the scene of a macabre and sinister discovery. authorities in cook county, illinois say the manager of fir oaks cemetery and grave diggers unearthed more than 300 grave sites, resold the plots and pocketed the cash. >> they're not human to me. >> reporter: the investigation began six weeks ago in the semi- taken owners reported financial irregularities. in that time, authorities have made grisly discoveries. bodies buried on top of each other, grave stones tossed aside, and body parts scattered half hasly. >> i came across bones that were clear they were parts of skulls and parts of legs or arms. >> reporter: fbi teams are working with local and state authorities to map out the graveyard and analyze evidence. meanwhile, families wish for answers. >> i have 23 family members out here. i have grate sites that haven't been used, headstones that are

and good news from wall street. stocks ended up today. dow jones up 5. nasdaq up 5.38. and the s&p 500 up 3.12. maryland-based guitar maker paul reed smith is slashing 30 jobs and cutting back its workweek to four days. the company is apparently ending its nightly manufacturing operations. despite the economic times, the company has indeed finished an expansion to their building. the maryland department of business and economic development helped to finance that project. and no sale today for the historic ambassador theater in west baltimore. owners say no one came close to the dollar figure they were hoping for today. the ambassador on liberty heights avenue was built in

tonight, thousands of future criminals are off the streets after a nationwide dragnet last month by local, state, and federal officials. abc's lindsey davis reports that operation faulk brings birds of a feather together behinds bars. >> willie conway, a convicted sexual predator and member of an illinois street gang is off the street. so is joseph christian fontana. he was wanted in santa rosa county, florida for rape of a minor, child pornography, and 25 counts of sexual molestation. >> police, open the door.

>> open the door or we're going to take it down. >> reporter: across the country, a silent war. a crackdown on crime as federal marshals join forces again with state and local law enforcements to target career criminals. >> in fact, those arrested in this operation had a combined criminal history of more than 138,000 prior arrests. >> police! >> reporter: the marshalls have been conducting operation faulk since 2005, but this is the biggest operation to date. more than 35,000 fugitives were rounded up in the month of june alone. >> i believe it could be called the largest law enforcement operation ever conducted in our history. >> police! >> reporter: the goal is to reduce crime by taking the so- called worst of the worst off the street. nationwide, the operation scored 433 people wanted for murder, 900 gang members, and more than 2300 sex offenders. >> some were found hiding under beds. some cowered in closets. and still others tried to make

hamilton will finally make his way home. today the harbor seal was returned to the atlantic ocean from a beach near bethany in delaware. hamilton was found in late february on a bermuda beach strangled in a fishing net. the national aquarium marine rescue program here in baltimore was called in to help and had the seal shipped up in march. before his release today, hamilton was fitted with a satellite tag so you can track him while he finds his way home. to see where he is right now, go to our website, abc2news.com, and click on the links section. ocean city brings plenty of entertainment to many families. today one family is celebrating 50 years of childhood memories. frontier town was the invention
