if that area. looking at 95 southbound through howard county, down through to about the capitol beltway, we have bright sun and traffic is flowing freely at this time. back to you. 6:31. when was the last time news about your trash pickup led the news? >> that's what happens when your trash changes after 40 years. abc2 news linda so is live curbside with what you need to know about the garbage. >> reporter: good morning. the biggest change you'll notice this morning is there will be no trash pickup at all. if you've already put out your trash bring it back in because trucks will not be out collecting garbage today. it's part of the city's one plus one program. trash collection will now be streamlined to a tuesday through friday schedule. everyone's designated pickup day is different. it all depends on where you live. so instead of putting out trash twice a week pickup will only happen once a week and recycling will happen once a week as well. mayor dixon says the new plan will save the city millions of dollars and hopefully encourage

banita jacks accused of killing her four daughters and living with their decomposing bodies for seven months. good news about gas prices. the average price dropped about 10 cents a gallon this -- in the past two weeks. and that puts the national average at $2.56 a gallon. here in maryland the average price of gas for regular unleaded is $2.49. last year at this time more than $4 a gallon. joe biden, the wife of the vice president is going to have an outpatient procedure at thomas jefferson hospital in philadelphia to relieve shoulder pain. the biden's plan to spend the rest of monday and tuesday in their home in delaware. joe biden will return home tuesday evening, according to the white house. the indian government is preparing to investigate the collapse of a metro rail bridge

in new delhi. the accident happened early yesterday. a sixth person has died according to authorities. michael jackson's family convinced his deign was not an accident. two british tabloids are quoting lotoya as saying slebles her brother was -- she believes her brother was killed as part of a conspiracy to get his fortune. she says he was worth more than a $1 billion and believes that made him a tempting target. she also tells the tabloids she knows who is responsible. and joe jackson says also little doubt. >> i believe it's foul play. >> police are awaiting the toxicology report to determine if the sudden death should be considered a homicide. investigators removed powerful pin painkillers and sedative from his home and records from doctors who treated michael

and much more just ahead on "good morning maryland." but first, what do you say we check in with justin? justin berk. >> good morning. 6:43. we're taking a look outside now starting off this monday in ocean city. they are overcast now. warm 71 on the boardwalk. the airport checking in with 75. winds out of the northeast, a little bit of and undertow, upper 60s to near 70 degrees. we have orange shading in the southern portion of the dellma have southbound -- delmarva southbound. once you head up to central pennsylvania, they are 52 in altoona. they are clear and under the influence of canadian high pressure. this cloud line across the bay, that means an improvement. even if you're waking up with clouds. this system continues to dive its way off to the south and off the coast. we're on the fringe of this cool pattern here. it does appear as if we'ring ? to stay generally -- we're going to stay generally dry.

street and north avenue. also cathedral will be closed between preston and mount royal. in the rosedale area, that watermain break still remains on golden ring road. use caution there. 95 southbound is the far side. you have minor slowing us a approach whitemarsh boulevard. back to you. 6:46. throw out the old way of doing things in the city. >> there's a new way to pick up trash. here to explain it is linda so live at city hall. >> reporter: good morning. you won't be seeing city trash trucks out today so if you've already taken out your garbage bring it back in. starting today the city is implementing its new schedule for trash and recycling pickup. it's part of baltimore's one plus one program. mayor dixon says it will save millions of dollars and hopefully get more people to recycle. this means that trash pickup will only happen once a week instead of twice a week and

marina in anne arundel county. it happened yesterday at shp wrights harbor on herring bay wroad in diehl. the name of the victim hasn't been released pending notification of family. and police awaiting autopsy results as they look into the death of a woman whose body was announced in a freezer last week. family members say 83-year-old doris lea cooke had been bed-ridden for years. relatives told police when she died at her home in glen burnie several weeks ago they put the body into a freezer. another family member told police. another grassroots push to save a baltimore school slated to be closed. the archdiocese of baltimore plans to close towson catholic high school but students, parents, alumni held a rally in towson. this is it here. the archdiocese says it needs to close because the school has massive debt and falling enrollments but opponents say closing it isn't the answer and they are trying to raise money to pay for the school's debt. >> we believe $650,000 is

absolutely achievable. quite frankly all we've had to do is ask and we've received pledge promises out of the wood whrork to the tune of thousands of dollars. >> when the archdiocese decided to close the school it only had 163 students registered for next semester. those families are being told they can choose in our high school in the archdiocese and pay the same tuition they were paying at towson catholic. professors say maryland is not doing a good enough job teaching students basic math. nearly half of the kids need to take remedial classes before they can take classes for credit. a university professor says students are given calculators too early. sonia sotomayor takes the spotlight today. for her confirmation hearings. six months into barack obama's presidency some of his democratic allies are pushing

for investigations into the anti-terrorism policies of the bush administration. lawmakers right now are upset that former vp dick cheney gave direct orders to not tell congress about an eight-year cia counterterrorism project. attorney general eric holder is considering a criminal investigation on whether cia personnel tortured suspected terrorists. north korean leader kim jong il has life threatening pancreatic cancer. south korean tv reports. according to this report kim is expected to live no longer than five years. he's also expected to name his son as successor in the next three years. joe biden, wife of vice president joe biden is going to have orthopedic surgery to relieve shoulder pain today. it will be at thomas jefferson hospital in philly. joe biden will accompany her to the hospital and they plan to spend tomorrow at their home in delaware.

he'll return to washington tomorrow night, according to the white house. the indian government is preparing to investigate the deadly collapse of a metro rail bridge, this is in new delhi. authorities say a sixth person has died in this. the accident happened early yesterday. nasa tries again today to get the space shuttle endeavour off the ground. we'll take a live picture now. this is cape canaveral, florida. the launch team came within minutes of sending endeavour and seven astronauts to the international space station yesterday but when thunderstorms moved in they scrubbed the launch competely. it was the fourth launch attempt this month. 6:51. a change of heart for a swim club in philadelphia. accused of racism. the club cancelled memberships of a dozen minority children last week. the kids are part of a summer camp and some reported hearing racial comments. now the club says it will reinstate those memberships. club officials say the claims of racial discrimination are untrue. they say it was a matter of

overcrowding. bge is going to unveil plans today that could save you money on your electric bill. the smart grid initiative includes the plan installation of two million residential smart meters. the program is expected to save customers more than $2.6 billion over the life of the project. the library of congress is open to more than $40 million storage facility on the grounds of fort meade. the facility will house 33 million items from the line row's special -- library's special collections, including maps, photographs and sheet music. a wish is coming true for a 12-year-old delaware girl. >> she's getting ready to meet the president. you see, takila lewis has brain cancer and her grandmother died of cancer. it's impacted her father because her mother was also recently diagnosed with cancer. ever since barack obama has sworn in to office she's wanted to meet him. she's been putting to the a

we'll clear out the high chowed deck this morning and then -- cloud deck this morning and build in afternoon clouds. after 85 tonight, we slip back to 57 degrees outside the beltway. 84, mostly sunny tomorrow and pleasant. near 60 tuesday night, wednesday morning. we bounce back to 86 wednesday afternoon. 89 thursday with a chance of thunderstorms, as a cold front will just sweep back in some cooler air. drop to 85 on friday. 83 on saturday. more showers and thunderstorms and staying in the low to mid-80s on sundays. not a bad-looking forecast here. after all that wet weather we've had in may and june we've actually dried things out in a hurry. so we could use some of these showers. 6:54. let's root on good traffic. >> thank you. good morning. we have a couple of crashes to let you know about in the city. one at west fayette street and north monroe. another crash, north charles street at west cold spring lane. road closures, you can expect at 7:00 a.m., because of artscape, mount royal closed between charles street and north avenue.
