arbutus 63. nile -- nice silhouette from the maryland science center to the national aquarium. near record low, the record was back in 2001, we have the spread of mid-50s to mid-60s. this afternoon, sunny to partly cloudy. this is near normal. but tonight we have a better shot of hitting a record low. more on that coming up. 5:31. here's kim. >> southbound on the jfx between northern parkway and north avenue, things are flowing freely at this time but we have the road closures because of artscape, mount royal closed at north charles and north avenue. and cathedral street closed at preston and mount royal. and the watermain break in golden ring area, has been cleared, all lanes reopened in that area. this is 95 southbound

approaching whitemarsh boulevard. things running smoothly at this time. this traffic report brought to you by baltimore's country station 93.1 wpoc where you'll find great music from stars like taylor swift, kenny chesney and keith urban. back to you. one man dead, gunman still on the loose. >> sherrie johnson is on this developing story as the search continues. >> reporter: after a four-hour barricade on the city's east side baltimore police came up empty-handed and this morning the search is still on for a killer. officers blocked down the 3,000 part of the almeida at 29th street and looking for a man that killed a man just a block away. neighbors were evacuated from their homes for their safety. the murder victim has not been identified but police say he was shot several times and police brought in three people for questioning but still came up empty. police consider the suspect armed and dangerous. officers say it shouldn't be too long before they bring him to justice. coming up at 5:45, more on what

officers have to say about the search for this suspect. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. police in southeast baltimore still looking for the gunman who shot and killed a woman early this morning. sources tell our overnight photographer pete "on the street" o'neal that she was found lying there in the middle of register street off of eastern avenue. happened around 3:00 this morning. witnesses tell police they saw a white or light-colored cadillac taking off. right now police are working on a tag number. federal investigators are urging metro to keep on monitoring the computerized train control system following last month's deadly crash. metro said it's signaling the system and it's typically tested each month before the crash that killed nine people. reviews nor being performed everyday. the ntsb is calling on metro to develop a system to continuously evaluate the control system and operate the operations -- alert the operations control center if there are any problems. there's a lot of anger over

this. a maryland bus driver reading behind the wheel. yeah. a passenger in montgomery took these photos of the driver reading a book. the passenger says the operator was shifting her eyes between the book and road, veering in and out of lanes. >> this is not acceptable to be driving. you have passengers on the bus. it's not just your life, it's other passengers as well. >> right now a county spokesperson says that the driver is still on the job but not driving buses right now. >> working in a library, that's what she - >> july 14th, the maryland institute for medical emergency systems will discuss moving the trooper from centreville to an eastern airport hangar. and owners will discuss the automobile dealer rights restoration act of 2009. and several key lawmakers are

expected to be there. a family practice doctor from rural alabama is president barack obama's choice for surgeon general. dr. regina benjamin was officially introduced in the rose garden. her life story is truly one that doesn't happen to all of us. dr. benjamin talked about how she lost her dad to diabetes, her brother to an hiv related illness and her mom to lung cancer. >> my family is not here with me today, at least not in person, because of preventable diseases. while i can't -- or i cannot change my family's past i can be a voice in the movement to improve our nation's health care, and the nation's health, for the future. >> doctor benjamin made headlines with a fierce determination to rebuild her nonprofit medical clinic in the wake of hurricane katrina. looking for a great deal on a new car?

5:44. an afternoon shooting near the almeida puts a northeast neighborhood on high alert. >> let's get right to abc2 news sherrie johnson. she joins us with this story. >> reporter: a search is underway to find a murderer after a four-hour barricade came up empty. this started 3:00 yesterday in the northeast baltimore. city officers locked down part of the 3000 block of the almeida at east 29th street. looking for the man they say killed another man just a block

away. neighbors were evacuated from their homes as the s.w.a.t. team and k-9 units searched that area. the murder victim has not been identified but police say he was shot several times. he's in his late teens to early 20s and police brought in three people for questioning but still came up empty. >> ultimately did two sweeps into the house. we were not able to find the suspect so the suspect is still at large. >> reporter: authorities do not have a motive for this shooting. police consider the suspect armed and dangerous. we'll be in touch with officers throughout the morning to bring you the latest information. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. here's a look at some of the other top stories we're working on now. southwest airlines is inspecting nearly 200 of its aircraft after a football-sized hole in the fuselage forced an emergency landing in west virginia. that plane was bound for bwi marshall airport. here's the deal, the plane on the ground in charleston, west virginia last night. happened around 5:00. no one on board was hurt but

listen, if you have to fly southwest today just log on to abc2news.com and check out for flight delays, you can find the link by cleric clicking on the links tab at the top of the home page. two women accused of starving a child to death scheduled to go on trial, but could be delayed since the women still don't have lawyers. prosecutors asked a judge to appoint attorneys for the defendant. a los angeles coroner says toxicology reports in michael jackson's death could be completed this week. the assistant chief coroner says some test results to determine which substances jackson had in his body when he died are in. the remaining are expected to be in by the end of the week or perhaps early next week. tonight, remember, abc will be airing a special primetime "family secrets, the jackson after michael." tonight at 10:00 on abc2. how about the ravens after

derrick? derrick mason surprised all of us when he decided to call it quits after practice yesterday. they said he didn't say a word and then word popped up on a web site. he told his agent friday he was done but not to announce it until after mcnair's funeral. the agent says mcnair's death may have played a factor. mason is said not to have filed the proper paperwork with the nfl. so this story is not over. more at 6:00. trash collection crews work under their brand new schedule. a plan called one-plus-one, supposed to save a lot of money and increase recycling. crews will collect regular trash once a week and recyclables once a week. city officials say if residents do their part the transition will be a smooth one. but an abc2 news crew found trash bags set out all over canton yesterday afternoon.

residents there had their trash collected on mondays for decades and now that's all changed. >> i understand there's a new policy now where things are supposed to be in closed trash cans but you can see it's not actually taking place. >> if you put your trash out on the wrong day for the next three months you'll get a warning. after that, a fine. we've posted a link to the dbw's web site on ours, abc2news.com. you can find out what your new trash collection days will be. this is a great time to buy a new car. of course if your budget allows it. dealers are slashing prices as they try to move the 2009s off their lots. but consumer reporter john matarese says some cars are better deals than most, so you don't waste your money. >> reporter: want a great deal on a new car? i mean a really great deal? well, then, you may want to buy one of the worst-selling cars in america. because those are the cars dealers are practically giving

away right now. if you want to bargain these days skip the new camaro, it's so hot it's selling for sticker price. instead edmonds.com says shop for a slow seller like dodges and pontiacs. the web site compiled a list of new car bargains with five months or more of unsold inventory. edmonds best new car bargains include the dodge caliber, pontiac g6, kia optima, jeep patriot and chevy colorado. my advice, make an offer. dealers are motivated to sell these slow-moving cars. but from the "doesn't that stink" file some bargains that may not be such a deal if you need to unload them in a couple of years. known as orphans, brands like pontiac that will soon be gone, for owners that may need to sell that stinks. some bargain cars are not a bargain if you need to resell in two to three years but edmonds warns resale values can drop especially fast on

orphaned brands. sure, a soon-to-be dropped car like a pontiac g6 may not hold its value very well but if you're willing to hold on to it for a few years you can drive away with a good car at an absolute bargain right now. so you don't waste your money. i'm john matarese. 5:50. talk about a bargain. how about air conditioning for free? we got it. westminster, open up the windows, 57 now at winters mill high school. this is interesting because we've got a wide spread of temperatures but once you add, especially north and west of the beltway, widespread 50s to be found. not just confined to carroll county. but we'll take you to the south, when you're closer to the water and the further south you go temperatures milder and much more reasonable, 64 at least by july standards but even for annapolis at the harbor school that is also running below normal. overalthough we've got ourselves a nice cool flow. the northeasterly wind continues to keep that cool air

entrenched and that is pretty much why we'll have the temperatures very comfortable this morning. strong sun will rebound us to near normal. when you have low humidity and low moisture in the soil because it's been a few weeks since we've had that copious amount of rain temperatures will robe but also drop quickly as we head through this evening and tonight. that is pretty much the expectation. clear skies tonight. near record low temperatures. tomorrow, sunshine followed by increasing late-day clouds. that's 5:00 a.m. you can see the solid clouds pretty much west of hagerstown and back in towards the ohio valley. but we'll start to see the high clouds in by sunset. overnight, watch a line of showers pushing through central pennsylvania that will probably fall apart before reaching us, however, could be thursday morning sprinkles and then the frontal boundary nearby will spark more showers and storms during the day. today, however, 86 degrees. so back to near normal with the sunshine. an absolutely pleasant day by mid-july standards with very low humidity. as i said with low humidity we can drop the temperature quickly and will do so tonight. dropping to 55.
