joke. the archbishop of baltimore called the decision to close towson catholic painful but necessary there is a school fair going on here tonight at 7:00 for students to show them some of the other options they have around the archdiocese. and the archbishop has said if students choose another school, they'll be able to pay the same tuition a that they paid here. the protest is also timed to coincide with the school fair. live in towson, christian schaffer, abc 2 news. a very lucky boy is recovering after being buried alive on the beach in ocean city. it happened when he was digging in the sand with some other children near 37th street. they dug two holes and were digging a connecting tunnel when the sand tunnel collapsed. these pictures were taken by the ocean city beach patrol as they rushed to rescue the child. the upper half of his body was buried and the boy was not breathing when he was pulled free. but beach rescuers were able to revive the boy. he was awake, alert and apparently complaining of sand in his eyes when he was taken to the hospital in berlin.

the boy has not been identified, and ocean city officials want the remind everyone that digging holes on the beach can be dangerous. baltimore police found a body in the inner hash their morning. a man they had been looking for since yesterday. 30-year-old desi deschaine was at a boat party in canton sunday night and apparently fell into the water at the baltimore marine center. police say deschaine had been drinking, land is no sign of foul play. deschaine was an aide to a washington, d.c. councilman. d.c. councilmembers honored him by pausing for a moment of silence this morning. arson investigators say a hamp stedman was targeting a former girlfriend when he allegedly set fire to a two- story apartment building in westminster. the fire forced people from their homes in the wee hours of the morning on sunday at the apartments at the greens on robins way. according to the state fire marshals office, 46-year-old wayne harry doherty used a ladder to break into his ex- girlfriend's second floor

apartment. he confessed to using a lighter to set a blouse on fire once he entered the unit. one of the fire victims chased down the suspect as he fled from the burning building on foot. >> i think he was scared, because i told him what i was grog to do to him if he moved. and he wouldn't move. >> four people suffered minor injuries in the fire, and a dozen families have had to move to other units. doherty is being held at the carroll county detention center on $100,000 bond pending a bail review. now the latest on a baltimore-bound jet that made an emergency landing in west virginia last night. southwest airlines has inspected about 200 planes after a football-sized hole opened up in the boeing 737's fuselage during the flight. the cabin lost pressure, but though one was hurt on the flight from memphis. passengers in the rear section of the jet could actually see through the hole. one passenger describes what happened. >> everything was normal. having conversations with a few

new friends, and all of the sudden we heard a loud pop. and not knowing what that was, one of the ceiling tiles was being sucked to the top of the plane. >> everybody on board was fine and the replacement plane landed in baltimore without incident last night. southwest airlines has been operating a normal schedule of flights today. it is a new start to an old routine in baltimore city. the city's one plus one plan for trash and recycling started today. but as abc 2 news linda so reports, it could take some getting used to. >> reporter: tuesday is the new monday for city trash crews. >> it's about change. >> reporter: for decades, trash was picked up on mondays in baltimore, and then again later in the week. >> it's going to be tough getting used to after all the years on mondays. >> reporter: recycling would be collected every two weeks.

but now one plus one means one day of trash pickup, and one day of recycling a week. >> everybody get together, it could work out. >> reporter: but some say only one day of trash pickup a week isn't enough. they're worried it will lead to trash bags being left on the street and make the city's rat problem even worse. not just rats, but other pest problems too. gilbert shafer lives in hampden. >> we have a big problem with raccoons. and i mean you can't beat them things. they're smart as a whip. >> reporter: the new collection schedule is supposed to save the city millions of dollars. the hope is to get more people to recycle, and ultimately reduce the amount of trash that is collected. >> you know, i never recycle. but i'm going to start, you know. it's about change. >> reporter: change that many hope will make neighborhoods cleaner. >> we're going give it a try.

>> reporter: in hampden, linda so, abc 2 news. >> for more information on the new schedule and the rules, you can call 311. you can also find a link to department of public work on our website, abc2news.com. baltimore city council has rushed through legislation designating more than half the city a recovery zone. last night's vote was needed before baltimore can hand out about $50 million in bonds for development projects. the recovery zone designation allows the city to administer those bonds for infrastructure, which means the federal government pays 45% of the interest. things are getting dry out there. they're going to stay that way this evening. right now maryland's most powerful radar not indicating any precipitation. but we'll keep it turned on. just in case the shower decides to show up -- not. ain't going to happen. take a look at the forecast for this evening. partly cloudy. temperatures will hold right around 80 degrees for the next couple hours. and then they're going to cool

off rapidly. and by tomorrow morning, we could set a brand-new record low. we'll tell you all about it, coming up. a burtonsville man has pleaded guilty to a bank robbery that ended with a police chase through four maryland counties. 24-year-old sharmon ced was a lookout. a bank teller was shot in the hand during the theft. the bank robbers took more than $23,000 from the clarksville bank before escaping in a truck. witness descriptions helped police find the truck and follow the suspects at high speeds through four counties. the suspects eventually got out of the truck and tried to escape on foot. one of them shot at police and was killed when officers returned fire. pretrial hearing continue in the trial of a washington, d.c. woman accused of killing her four daughters. bonita jacks told police that her girls were possessed by demons when they arrested her in january of 2008. a d.c. judge listened to a recording of that interrogation today. he is deciding if it can be admitted as evidence. defense attorneys want to

exclude it. in the interview, jacks said she had to help contain the demons that lived in her daughters' bodies. an odenton woman is still in shock after a pit bull attacked several animals at her farm. it happened at the sheryl rescue ranch in odenton. wendy cazone says she checked on her animals on sunday morning and saw a neighbor's pit bull attacking a herd of goats and sheep in her yard. she managed to wrestle the dog off the animals and lock it in a shed, but not before it killed two sheep and injure in order than a dozen animals. >> ten, 12, 13 have bites. not all require medication. they were neosporin. but most of them are really bad. like the sheep that has her throat, her skin ripped, and little leroy and little julie with her face wrapped out there. >> dog's owner voluntarily turned it over to animal control and the dog was euthanized yesterday.

sheryl rescue ranch is one of only two live rescue pharmacy in the area. bosses put the brakes on a montgomery county bus driver after she was caught reading and drive agent the same time. a passenger took pictures of the driver reading a book behind the wheel. the driver apparently veer aid cross traffic lanes as she shift herd eyes between the book and the road. an unidentified passenger says despite the danger, no one confronted the driver. >> i couldn't believe it. i sat up-front because i was like nervous. >> this is not acceptable, you know, to be driving. you have passengers on the bus. it's not just your life. it's other passengers as as well. >> dangerous. and stupid. how are you going to drive and read? >> a montgomery county spokesman said the driver still has a job, but she is not driving buses and the case is still under investigation. much more to come on abc 2 news at 6, including the amazing story of a maryland woman who didn't know she was pregnant until she gave birth. tonight she shares her story

story that will have you shaking your head. a story so amazing, it's on national tv tonight. abc 2 news kelly swoope introduces us to tina chris, a woman who found out she was pregnant about ten minutes before she gave birth. >> and i just got this god awful pain in my side. i had never felt pain like that before. >> reporter: tina chris will never forget april 8th, 1998. she thought her appendix was about to birth. >> they said you're to be deliver. i said deliver what? you better check again! >> reporter: tina's amazing story will air tonight on discovery health, "i didn't know i was pregnant." through reenactments, the show takes us back 11 years ago to when she was 21. already the mother of a 2-year- old, and in for the shock of her life. >> in the emergency room, they had asked, well, you know are, you pregnant? i'm like no. are you sure. i'm sure yeah, i'm sure. i'm on birth control pills. >> reporter: experts believe

tina conceived in between her switch from birth control shots to the pill. she lived her life not knowing a baby was on the way. >> everything that books tell you not to do when you're pregnant, i did, plus more. so it was like is she healthy? is she going to be normal? >> reporter: and this is autumn brook, a happy, healthy 11-year- old heading into sixth grade. >> my angel. that's all i can say. she is meant to be here. >> reporter: autumn was full term. bettina never gained any weight or missed a menstrual cycle. she did take two pregnancy tests, but only because her girlfriend claimed her face was getting chubby. >> pregnancy tests can be falsely negative, for example, if they're taken too early. >> i even asked the doctors where she was she? she weighed seven pounds. she had to be under my ribs towards my back. >> reporter: with no prenatal
