faded from view when the shots rang out here along boston street. according to charging documents, a 28-year-old man had been sitting on a bench, talking to a pair of older women when he got into an argument with a pair of elderly men, and then a frighten sued. police say 59-year-old daniel marshall, who served as a cop in the city in the '80s pulled out a handgun that he youd to shoot the younger man twice in his leg and hip. residents in sykesville neighborhood say baltimore county police showed up two days later at his home, and you can still see evidence where they gained entry into the home to execute a search warrant. marshall faces a series of charges including attempted first-degree murder, assault, and reckless endangerment. he is free after posting a $300,000 bond. meanwhile, family members who answered the telephone at the towson home of the victim said they are not commenting on the

shooting. police also have refused to discuss this case, saying, quote, shootings happen like this every day. jeff hager, abc 2 news. >> daniel marshall is expected to appear in court on those charges august 4th. now the latest on the shooting inside of a white marsh club. police arrested three suspects in connection with last night's shooting on pulaski highway. the victim was dancing with a group of people when several shots were fired by a female suspect who is still at large. the victim was wounded and treated at a nearby hospital. police still have no motive for the shooting. three men have been arrested in connection with the shooting. the woman has not been identified. but the club's video cameras did capture her image. she is described as a black female in her 20s with a medium build. deteives believe she frequents the edgewood area of harford county. a gruesome discovery made this morning near one of baltimore's most popular walking areas. just after 10, a person spotted

the body of a man inside offer karr on lake montebello drive directly in front of the lake. police say they aren't sure how the man died. they say the body was already starting to decompose. tonight investigators are waiting for details from the medical examiner. baltimore county police are investigating two separate double shootings. the first happened around 9:30 last night on white pine road in middle river. police say two men there met for a drug deal. both pulled out guns and both fired. according to police on the scene, one of the victims ran into a nearby apartment. the other tried driving to the hospital before he ran out of gas. tonight both are recovering from nonlife-threatening injuries. the second happened moments later in woodlawn. police say two groups of people, two 18-year-old men were shot. both victims are expected to recover. tonight we still don'have a word on a motive. and now to new jersey, where five jersey police

officers were shot while trying to arrest two armed robbery suspects this morning. the suspects started shooting as officers approached them outside of an apartment building, then barricaded themselves inside of an apartment. police evacuated the building, and then went after the suspects. that's when two of the men opened fire again. >> the entry was attempted to be gained to the apartment, and the people inside just started firing through the door and through the wall. >> police say the suspects were ready to go to war and died in the shoot-out. five officers are being treated for their wounds. and now to an abc 2 news update. baltimore police say a police spokesman who was suspended last friday is back on the job tonight. according to the baltimore sun, officer troy harris accidentally sent a nude photo of a woman to a local tv station. the sun reports harris was trying to send a mug shot of a criminal suspect, but attached a nude photo that had been saved to the hard drive of his city-issued computer. harris has now been assigned to

the midnight shift in the northern district. city police still investigating an afternoon accident between an mta bus, a tractor-trailer, and an suv. they crashed into each other in southwest baltimore near the intersection of washington boulevard and caton avenue. police say there were no passengers on the bus, but they have not released any information about the people driving the vehicles or exactly how the accident happened. well, welcome to summer time. it finally heated up, and we finally got the humidity rolling into the region. and right now maryland's most powerful radar is indicating some shower activity up to the north of us, over -- well, over lancaster and up around the wilmington area. we're seeing some shower and thunderstorm activity. let me put it into motion so you can see where it's going on over the past couple of hours. you can see the showers and thunderstorms making their way down across northern portions of delaware, into new jersey, and also one little shower just down do the south of the fredericksburg area because of

heat and humidity. here is your forecast for the next couple hours. look for partly cloudy skies with some showers up to the north. our temperatures will hold in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees for the next couple of hours. we do have some rain on the way. some much needed rain. who is going to get it? when will it come? the answer is coming up. >> thanks, norm. judge sonia sotomayor's supreme court confirmation hearing takes an interesting turn today. abc 2 news terry owens is here with the details of day 4. >> reporter: this was the final day of testimony for the supreme court nominee. after three days of grilling the judge, today lawmakers heard from witnesses, some of whom are adamantly opposed to her confirmation. a group of new haven firefighters found themselves at the center of a controversial decision reached by judge sonia sotomayor, a decision that scrapped the results of a promotion test because too few minorities scored high enough to qualify. the supreme court later reversed the decision, and critics say it's proof judge sotomayor doesn't belong on the high court. >> isn't it true that you were incorrect in your earlier

statement that you were bound by established supreme court and second circuit precedent when you voted each time to reject the firefighters' civil rights compint? >> the question was the precedent that existed. and whether viewing it, one would view this as the city discriminating on the basis of race or the city concluding that because it was unsure that its test actually avoided disparity impact. >> reporter: citing concerns over her record on decisions in cases that involve race. on the other side, new york mayor michael bloomberg is endorsing the nominee. in a letter sent to the judiciary committee last week, bloomberg said, quote, i have great confidence that judge sotomayor's rulings demonstrate her knowledge of the law,

objectivity, fairness, and impark shalt. she has won praise from republicans and democrats, and it's believed she will be confirmed before the lawmakers' august recess. terry owens, abc 2 news. u.s. customs officials say agents at bwi airport have seized a soap-encrusted severed birds head from the luggage of a person coming back from nigeria. this isn't the first time something like this came through the airport. just a few months ago another soapy bird's head was come 234 from a nigerian traveler. this time they were given a $300 fine and it was destroyed. maryland health officials report another death from the h1n1 virus, or swine flu here in our state. this is the third person to die from the virus here in maryland. health officials say the patient had some serious underlying medical conditions. no other details will be released in order to protect

the privacy of the family. the centers for disease control has confirmed 732 swine flu cases statewide. nationally 211 people have died from complications associated with the virus. well, harley-davidson is making more job cuts. the milwaukee-based company will chop another one thousand employees from the payroll. these cuts include 700 hourly and 300 sal rid employees. they followed between 1400 and 1500 job cuts announced already earlier this year. harley-davidson u.s. retail sales during the last quarter fell about 35%. things are actually worse for other motorcycle companies where sales dipped 48%. frederick michael heed, junior was proud to be a marine. born and raised in southern pennsylvania, he enlisted in 2005, just a few months after graduating from high school. tonight heed's family is making plan for his burial at arlington national cemetery. he was killed during combat in afghanistan this week.

his body arrived at dover air force base last night. jeff says his step-son had a real passion for serving his country. >> he was a great person. never a bad word to say. always happy. real laid back. mild mannered. just a really great all around kid. >> department of defense says he died during combat operations. friends say he was admired and respected in the community, and a person who lived life to the fullest. he will be laid to rest next week. private nonprofit and government groups joined in baltimore today to form a civic guard to help in an emergency. they'll develop a emergency plan from everything to emergency preparedness or the kind of help companies is offer during a disaster. >> we're really trying to bring our different perspectives together, learn enough about each other to in the event of a

>> the dish network is pairing up in a big way tonight. it's paying nearly $6 million to settle charges that it improperly marketed, promoted and sold its services to people in 46 states, including maryland. dish network agreed to pay restitution to affected customers, and it also agreed to make fuller disclosures in their advertising. and some bank of america customers in our area are getting a surprise in the mail. they're getting a new debit card. and it's not because their old plastic card has expired. abc 2 news joce sterman is here now to explain the message they're getting. >> reporter: kelly, we heard from a couple of bank of america customers who say letters have shown up their homes in the last few days. they come with a new card and a message letting you know account information from certain debit cards may have been compromised by a third party. you'll remember the start of 2009, bank of america issued new debit cards to many of their customers after what was called the largest security breach ever. that's when data that held by

heartland systems was compromised by hackers, forcing banks to issue new cards as a precaution. we spoke with a bank of america rep today who wouldn't say whether these letters were tied to that breach in some way. all she could say is the company constantly monitors accounts, and if they see a potential problem, they notify a customer and send out a new card. >> they're watching and they're doing exactly what they're supposed to do, changing out those account numbers. the sad thing, as consumers, we're taking it for granted. it's just now becoming part of doing business, and accepting and anticipating. so we should never let our guard down. >> reporter: and that means you've got to keep a constant eye on your bank accounts and credit report. you need to check your statements for any unauthorized charges. go back several months and check can. if you spot anything that seems wrong, report them to your bank. joce sterman, abc 2 news. now the forecast certified baltimore's most accurate. here is chief meteorologist norm lewis and maryland's most

powerful doppler radar. >> we know summer is already here, but it felt like it arrived again today, or with a vengeance. >> everybody wanted it, so you got it. we got the heat today well. got the humidity. i didn't think it was going to get this hot today. i tell you, it's a scorcher out there, the high humidity making it feel very uncomfortable. that's going to continue into tomorrow with the high heat and high humidity giving rise to much needed rainfall, which we do need very badly. let's take a look outside right now, show you what is going on downtown. pretty decent-looking evening in the baltimore area. right now our temperature at bwi 93 degrees. but the humidity 35%. it sure feels a whole lot more than that. wind from the southwest at 8 and the fresh steady at 29.76. here is your satellite picture. throughout day today, we started out early this morning with a few light clouds very early this morning. as the day went along, got some breaks in the overcast. lots of sunshine. shower and thunderstorm activity located right through there. also just down near

fredericksburg, virginia getting shower and thunderstorm activity. a very weak frontal system is out here, and that is going to pass into our region. that's going to act as a trigger to trigger showers during the day tomorrow. as we take a look at a larger picture of it. again, a very weak frontal system is located in this region. but there is a stronger front back through that area right there. and the second front is going to be responsible for bringing us showers and thunderstorms the first part of the week. but we'll have more before that as this makes its way to the east. it will stall and bring a low pressure up and bring showers in during the day tomorrow. right now maryland's most powerful radar not indicating any precipitation around the baltimore area. but northern portions of delaware and into sections of new jersey, they've got severe thunderstorm watches right there as the storms make their way down through the region. we're going to continue to watch these pop-up storms because of the heat and humidity across the region. temperature-wise right now, westminster at 89. 90 in iamsville.

at least three months. if you or your children fall into this category, reporter susan hendricks actually has good news for you. >> reporter: if you or someone you know suffer from chronic headaches, you're not alone. according to the national headache foundation, up to 5% of the population gets persistent headaches on a daily or almost daily basis. chronic daily headaches can disable their victims, including children. now a new study released online by the journal neurology says there is hope for children with the condition. taiwan's researchers say for some kids with chronic headaches, it may be just a phase. scientists examined middle school students ages 12 to 14 with recurring head pain. the researchers found that 60% of the sample outgrew chronic headaches within a year. 75% were rid of the condition after two years. and 88% no longer suffered chronic headaches after eight years. that's not to say that kids

>> good evening, everybody. i'm terry owens. we begin tonight with some good news out of the state capitol. after months of being almost empty, three new tenants are moving back into the market house of the annapolis city dock. but it's only on a temporary basis as the city prepare futures a major renovation of the precivil war marketplace. and as roosevelt leftwich tells us, the city is hoping it will be a start of the comeback for the centuries old building. >> reporter: he definitely doesn't look like a donna. joel has been busy supervising work crews trying to get his family's flower shop, donna's flowers ready this weekend. they're expanding in what they hope will be new territory, even if just a few months. >> tourists, locals who don't visit our shop on maryland avenue would be exposed to us. and of course the tourists with the boat shows. so we thought there were opportunities that we were missing. >> reporter: the city of annapolis regained control of market house two months ago after
