catonsville, frederick road and dutton avenue. as we they -- check 83 southbound from the pennsylvania state line, 22 minutes. to the jfx, no problems to report from northern parkway to about north avenue. quick peek now at the mdot cameras, this is going to be 695 at liberty road. ugsee things are -- you can see things are traveling smoothly on both loops of the beltway at this hour. back to you. it's something no parent should ever have to do. we're talking about burying a child. a carroll county mother is making those arrangements after her daughter was hit and killed by a drunk driver. 15-year-old caitlin bossler in carroll county was killed sunday as she stood outside of her home talking with friends in a parked car. this accident happened on key highway just past taneytown. police say the teen was standing on the shoulder of the road when the pickup truck driven by this man, 42 to-year-old kevin smith of fredrick county struck her and killed her. four other teens were in the car.

they were badly injured but caitlin died at the hospital. >> stop people from going out -- >> last night when i went to work i was texting her. back to school shopping. today i'm picking out a casket. >> kevin smith now faces a number of charges including manslaughter and driving under the influence. he's being held on $20,000 bond. also this morning, it's been almost a year since that tragic accidental death of a very popular baltimore city deejay k-swift. her parents are now suing her former business partners foyer fraud. she died of neck injures suffered during a pool party at her home. the parents claim their daughter's partners forced her name on business in july and also claiming they are withholding her royalties.

the party says the charges are ridiculous. a shooting in west baltimore injured three people including two baltimore police officers. it began as a domestic dispute. we showed you a picture now of sean sinclair, the man police say shot the officers, it's a mug shot from a previous conviction. sinclair is recovering from two gunshot wounds and will most likely be charged with domestic assault and attempted murder. both officers are expected to make full recoveries. baltimore county police are trying to find out who is responsible for burglaries at three cockeysville churches. one of the churches hit was epworth united methodist church. police say someone broke into a window and sole stole a safe were cash. two others places were burglarized that night. police say the suspect or suspects also broke in through a window and stole cash. time 5:33. it looks like some philadelphia children will get their day in the sun after all.

this story is generating a lot of discussion in the studio. a special sighting in the chesapeake bay. a manatee has been spotted in harford county of all places. these pictures were taken in havre de grace by a police officer marcus rodriguez. the manatee has been identified as ilya. was first photodocumented in 1994. the u.s. geological survey in florida was able to id the manatee through a unique scar pattern on the tail. here's the thing, boaters in the area are urged to be careful because oftentimes manatees can get close to the boats and become injured. keep that in mind if you're going to be on the water in the area. why is this manatee up here? what is the temperature in the water? >> it's not that unusually warm. must have followed the food supply or just liked the promenade at havre de grace. i don't know. >> good seafood restaurants. >> usually they track warm water. that is an issue they have in the water in the winter. they huddle around the outtake

everyone is talking about health care. >> president barack obama's system appears to be losing ground on capitol hill. sherrie johnson is here to explain how this will affect you. >> reporter: president barack obama says health care reform has been talked to death and it's time for action. in a strong rebuttal to critics oh obama says out-of-pocket costs for americans are spiraling while insurance companies reaped record profits. he also says families are spending more for less care. the president's approval rating may have slipped but not dipped below republicans. according to the latest abc news/"washington post" survey, approval on how he's handling key issues dropped. president obama is down eight points on the economy. on the deficit down nine points. on health care, slipped eight

points. >> the more people learn about, everybody knows an awful lot about health care and they do want change but are worried about the costs or worried about whether they are going to have to give up what they have. >> reporter: the president has issued his first health care related veto threat and warned he will not sign a bill that taxes health care benefits. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. >> the president will hold a primetime news conference hoping to sell his health care plan to the nation. watch it live on abc 2 starting at 8:00. let's look at some of the other stories we're working on for you. baltimore city police continue to search for the person who walked up to two teens in east baltimore and opened fire killing one of them. the shooting happened at the corner of north kenwood and east monument street. 19-year-old jarod reed died at the scene. the other teen was taken to johns hopkins. no motive or suspects right now in the shooting. new information in the death of former raven steve

mcnair. toxicology results show his blood level was twice the tennessee legal limit at the time of his death. police in nashville say he was shot and killed by his girlfriend, 20-year-old sahel sahel kazemi before she turned the gun on herself later. she had traces of marijuana in her system. last night joe jackson appearing on cnn's "larry king live" implied his son's personal doctor may be to blame for his death. joe jackson told king that the doctor gave him something to make him rest but he didn't wake up. the family is awaiting the coroner's toxicology report to determine exactly how michael jackson died. we don't expect anything until sometime next week. pop singer chris brown made a public apology for the feb beating of his girlfriend rihanna. >> i told her countless times and i'm telling you today i'm truly, truly sorry and that i

was not able to handle the situation better. >> brown says his actions were inexcusable and he was raised better. he's still seeking help and wants to live his life as a role model. you learned a hard lesson didn't you? news pops up on the internet, be careful but this story goes beyond that. erin andrews is a popular sportscaster with espn. somebody shot video through a hotel peephole of her undressing. it showed up unline. thousands of virus complicated on to see this and guess what? they caught a computer virus. hackers took advantage and andrews is steaming mad. she has lawyers involved and plans to hammer those involved in this. 5:48. we look at the regional satellite and radar composite, shrouded with clouds. we've got rain primarily along the delmarva, along the

shoreline. watch it fill in here over the last hour. this is a sign of the atmosphere actually getting more energy and more reinforcements of the tropical feed. we've had a couple of showers we've been highlighting mainly around the cecil county and harford county border. looks like another short from calvert county, could be pushing to the west side of baltimore though focusing mostly on the east overall we have this tropical feed running up the coast. there's some moisture back there in through western pennsylvania. most of it off the coast. pull back a little wider, as you can generally see that is pretty much it. showers and storms along the shoreline from the outer banks through ocean city and up through long island and new england. we're going to be right on the fringe of that. the upper level cold core here, temperatures in the 50s and 60s versus our muggy 72. but this is another surge of upper level energy. there will be showers and storms to the west and east. we'll be caught in the squeeze play but there will be the chance of showers firing up back up late today and through the evening. there will be fog because of

the evening showers. and then more showers will roll their way through into the afternoon and into the evening hours tomorrow. our two-degree guarantee gets us to 77 degrees. tonight we settle back to 68. the rest of the week -- 86 tomorrow, 85 thursday with showers and storms. then we knock it back into the lower 80s again as we head through friday keeping that rain in chance just about everyday. as you make your way southbound on 795 from owings mills you have a smooth ride towards the beltway. no incidents at this hour. things are quiet on the roads. this is 83 through about carroll and harford counties, no problems to report as you go down to shawan road. as you make your way to the jfx, northern parkway running smoothly to 28th street. at the tunnels, there's a new traffic pattern making your way southbound on 95 to the harbor tunnel thruway, keep in mind that new exit to 895 is going to be on the righthand side. the exit to 95 remains on your left.

looking at the beltway, the outer loop at liberty road. you can see we have building volume as you make your way to the baltimore national pike but things are running smoothly at this time. back to you. it's 5:50. just a week after baltimore cut its garbage service and stepped up their recycling efforts it appears the effort to make a greener city may not translate into cash. as jeff hager reports, the city is producing a record amount of recyclable material at a time when the market is fading. >> reporter: they sort through it piece by piece. which translates into about 80 tons per hour. >> we do most of maryland. >> reporter: at a time when baltimore's new one-plus-one trash service is leaving residents with little choice but to recycle some centers across the country are reportedly finding it cheaper to dump them in landfills but not at this center in elkridge. >> we have a long term contract with all our suppliers. and we've moved all our

material even through the time when it was hard to move. >> for years we've heard recycling makes sense and this also made some decent collars -- dollars for the city in recent years but not this year. >> before the market dropped baltimore made about just over $300,000 in revenue. right now we're not making anything but our processer who is waste management recycle america, they are still taking the materials for us which is a great thing. >> reporter: even if the city doesn't make a dime on recyclables it still saves the taxpayers money. otherwise it would be paying more tha stein 30 a ton to -- $30 a ton to burn the trash. even in a depressed market waste management sorts the trash, compacts it into bundles and loads it on to tractor-trailer rigs. it will then be shipped abroad to china and south america. or sold on the home front even though the prices for the materials can fluctuate. >> right now they are kind of low but it is profitable. there is a demand for the material. >> reporter: by cutting the
