harbor east. legg mason's headquarters there as well. and they agreed to pay $12,500 to do a poll for the councilwoman. here is what she had to say in may after the initial indictments against her were dropped. >> i am thankful for this day that i am that much closer to the restoration of my good name. and the work that i have done in serving the city. >> reporter: as for ron lipscomb, he has already pleaded guilty and will be sentenced in october. in a statement released tonight, holton's attorney says he see confident the new charges against her will be dropped as well, saying, quote, the desperate attempt of the state to salvage something from the relentless effort to convict miss holton will however be unavailing. like the bribery charge, it's fatally flawed legally and factually. a spokesperson for mayor sheila dixon who also still faces charges in connection with the case said the mayor would not be commenting on the new indictments. we'll have more on the story throughout the evening.

live in the breaking news center, christian schaffer, abc 2 news. and we have some more breaking news to tell you, about this time from anne arundel county. authorities say that a 38-year- old man is dead after falling out after third-story window of a town house. we're told that he landed on a basement patio. it happened shortly before 4:30 this afternoon on vineyard lane andcroftston police are investigating. a baltimore councilman has pleated guilty. kenneth oliver told a judge today he made a mistake. a randallstown democrat was sentenced to 50 hours of community service. he'll also have to pay a $2,500 fine. the councilman acknowledged writing two checks to himself from his campaign committee's checkbook. separation of church and state. it's an issue that is brewing in one part of howard county. the bryn mawr methodist church is asking the county to approve a tax-free loan for an

expansion project. the council council is expected to approve the request. but as linda so reports, some say it's crossing the line. >> this is a multipurpose room well. call it the spirit center. >> reporter: bryn mawr united methodist has a growing congregation and needs more space. construction is underway with the hope a bigger church will allow for more community outreach. >> child care, preschool, after school care, a lot of those kind of things would happen in this wing. >> reporter: the expansion comes with a huge price tag. to help alleviate the financial burden, church leaders are asking the county to approve a tax-free bond, which essentially allows them to borrow money from a bank at a lower interest rate. >> does not have any liability on the county at all. it doesn't affect the taxpayer. >> reporter: the expansion should be complete some time in february. the church says this entire project will cost them about $10 million. but with the passage of this loan, they hope it will save them as much as 1.5 million.

the critics say it violates separation of church and state. >> church facilities will be open to the public. but on the other hand we understand they have a fixed cross on the wall and there may be bible study and prayers. >> reporter: the howard county citizens association is made up of close to 200 residents out of about 280,000 in the county. the group has testified against the measure that is poised for approval by the county council. >> i think that the county should not be in the business of church expansions, period. >> we did not build a sanctuary. so it's not like we have this whole place that is only dedicated to worship. >> reporter: in ellicott city, linda so, abc 2 news. >> county council is expected to take up changes for the measure this thursday. but final vote isn't likely until early september. so how do you feel this issue? we want your two cents. on our website, we're asking a

question, should the howard county council help bryn mawr united methodist church? log on the abc2news.com and look on the right side of our home page to vote in our online poll. ll, baltimore is getting some help to fight crime. and it really couldn't come at a better time with a recent rash of shootings. terry is here now with the details. >> reporter: big news. baltimore officials say the city's police department will receive $10.1 million in federal stimulus funds. governor martin o'malley joined vice president joe biden, senator barbara mikulski and other officials for the announcement today in philadelphia. mayor dixon talked about how the money will be used. >> we are very pleased about that. it looks like the city will get an additional 50 police officers as a result of this money. >> commissioner fred bealefeld says the officers will be placed on foot patrols around the city as part of a strategy to help the department win the trust of the community. we're told the funding is for three years. eight other maryland departments will also get a

cut. in all, $23 million coming to the state of maryland. there are now more than 100 officers in the neighborhood since sunday's shooting spree in east baltimore. the increased police work and presence in the area they believe have gotten them much closer to an arrest. authority says they could see results soon. in the meantime, many residents appreciate the extra police presence, but fear the violence could soon return as soon as the police leave the neighborhood. >> it's fine while they're here. nothing is going to happen while they're here. but once they're gone, you know, somebody else is going do something else stupid. and it's inevitable. >> the police department says they will keep the extra officers in the area until they can make arrests in this weekend's rash of shootings. a baltimore county woman has pleaded guilty on sex trafficking of a minor. lea bella of reisterstown is accused of trafficking two 15-

her feet went up first. and then her head came up. her eyes were rolled back in her head. and that's when i asked somebody to pull her out. >> while the woman's boyfriend was trying to pull her out of the water, brady ran to get help. crews say if brady had not acted so quickly, the woman's injuries could have been much worse. brady says he plans to join the bollys quarters junior firefighters. there is a new fixture in downtown baltimore. the walt sondheim fountain was dedicated. he was a former president of the baltimore board of education and champions the inner harbor renaissance. >> so much of our city is barrack walter. not only by his hands, not only by his fingerprints but, really by his spirit. >> the president located at the west shore park in tinner harbor incorporates water jets, colored lights.

it's a transformer inching its way from havre de grace to a nuclear power plant in delta, pennsylvania. today abc 2 news jeff hagerer caught up with it along its path. >> reporter: the excitement is building here along main street in delta, pennsylvania as residents hope to capture a glimpse of one of the largest special deliveries in decades. >> i heard -- i didn't hear from the pennsylvania side. i heard it from the maryland side that it was coming up here. my barber told me. >> reporter: what is coming is a 250-ton generator, bound for the peach bottom nuclear plant that will carry enough power to light up an entire state. >> the transformer was manufactured by hyundai in korea. and then from there it was shipped to philadelphia. and then from philadelphia it was barged to havre de grace. >> reporter: now it's making its last and most difficult leg of the 7,000-mile trip, covering 30 miles of rural roads through northern

maryland. at 16 feet wide, 27-feet high, and a whopping 144 feet long with the two tractors that it takes to move it, the state is shutting down portions of routes of 155, 22, 136, and 165 this week as the very oversized load begins moving each night before midnight, and halts its movement by 5 in the morning there is nothing simple about moving something this big. in fact, movers say they can't travel more than 3 to 5 miles per hour, about the speed that i'm walking right now. but each stop along the way draws curious onlookers who show up just to see the mammoth machinery for themselves. >> we watched the mega movers a lot. we would like to see how it was transported. >> reporter: what did you expect when you came out here? >> i didn't think it was going to be that big. >> reporter: jeff hager, abc 2 news. >> and talk about shipping fees. the move is costing the nuclear plant more than $5 million. about half of that is going to

>> 30, thanks, norm. michael phelps' coach is threatening to pull the swimmer from international meets. he want's swimming governor's body to ban high-tech body suits. the group upheld the decision today to outlaw the suits next year. phelps coach said they better do something or they're going lose their guy who fills the seats. meanwhile, the world championships in rome today phelps lost to a german swimmer in the 200-meter freestyle. today some orioles players traded in their gloves for pot holders. taking part in a cook-off hosted by espn's own pitcher jeremy guthrie, and brian roberts and gregg zaun tried to outdo each other. they had 30 minutes to create their culinary masterpieces. fans purchased tickets for the big event. a panel of judges including the players' wives critiqued the creation based on taste,
