now abc 2 news at 5:30. >> some pop-up storms are on the way. in fact, they may be in your backyard right now. good evening, everybody. i'm terry owens. let's get right over to norm with a lock at the weather helded our way. >> thanks a lot, terry. we already had storms move through southern portions of anne arundel county and portions of prince george's county. the storms have now moved over

the eastern shore. they're currently approaching the dover area. you can see the move across the bay. but we've also got some down to the southwest of d.c. that are headed in our direction. over on the entire eastern shore, as well as all of delaware are under a severe thunderstorm watch until 8:00 this evening. as far as our forecast for the baltimore metro area, cloudy, showers and storms. we'll see temperatures for the next couple hours around 80 degrees. but the pop-up storms are going to be with us through the overnight period and into the morning hours. we'll tell you all about it, coming up in just a couple of minutes. and breaking news out of city hall where the mayor of baltimore has been indicted again. another indictment handed up against sheila dixon, charging the mayor with offenses that were dismissed from a previous indictment. prosecutors say the original indictment now will be dropped. a judge had thrown out some some charges against mayor dixon, including perjury and misconduct in office for allegedly failing to disclose

gifts from developer ron lipscomb, whom she had dated. the mayor says dixon was protected by legislative privilege, but still faced theft and misconduct charges involving gift cards meant for the poor. the new indictments now cover those same offenses. a spokesperson for the mayor told abc 2 the new charges are as flawed as those that previously exist, and we suspect they'll meet the same fate. to take a look at the entire indictment, we have put it on our website, abc2news.com you. go there for a complete read. in 2 your health tonight, new fears for pregnant women when it comes to the swine flu. new research is showing expecting moms are more vulnerable to serious complications from the h1n1 virus. abc 2 news health reporter kelly swoope talked the a mom to-be who has been worried all summer. >> go to monday. >> reporter: it's been a long, long nine months, and maria is anxious about monday's delivery of her first born son. this summer have you been worried about it? >> yes.

>> reporter: she has been incredibly careful, since fears of the swine flu erupted this year. and possibly more likely to die from some, according to a report out today. a study by the british medical journal the lancet show pregnant women who get the swine flu are four times as likely to be hospitalized as others with the virus. >> their body is protected from an immune standpoint to protect the pregnancy, but not to help the mom fight infection. >> reporter: an ob-gyn for franklin square hospital says she is worried what the fall flu season will bring with the h1n1 and is warning patients to be careful. >> my biggest concern is that people will disregard the risks of the flu in favor of the pregnancy. so as concerned as we are about healthy pregnancy, we're concerned about people passing away from the flu. >> reporter: while researchers at the university of maryland's school of medicine gear up for the vaccine trials next month,

the doctor says until we have a vaccine, pregnant women will have to rely on tamiflu. >> i think everyone is concerned about medications that they take during pregnancy. but the benefits by far outweigh the risk there is no proven fetal abnormality or malformation associated with this. >> reporter: if necessary, maria says she would take the antiviral drug used to treat influenza. however, she is also taking some precautions of her own. >> it's important for me to stay away from people with flu, also to go to the mall or open place, to wash your hands frequently. >> reporter: kelly swoope, to your health. >> researchers at the centers for disease control and prevention analyzed the first 34 cases of swine flu in pregnant women. the cases included six deaths. president obama taking his message of health care reform on the road again. speaking at the first of two town hall meetings today, the president told the crowd in

raleigh, north carolina that in the best case scenario health reform will not get voted on or signed until the fall. >> well, we did give them a deadline and sort of we missed that deadline. but that's okay. we're trying to get this done. but the american people can't wait any longer. they want action this year. i want action this year. >> meanwhile, house lawmakers say they're moving ahead on their version of the plan. a full house vote won't come until september. senators, meanwhile, have made more progress towards a bipartisan compromise they hope will appeal to the political middle. and now for a look at tonight's top stories. the indictment filed against mayor sheila dixon today comes one day after another indictment against councilwoman helen holton and bakery magnet john paterakis. the charges are for allegedly violating campaign finance laws. dixon says she has reached out

to councilwoman holton. the woman who called 911 to report what she thought might be a break-in at the home of henry louis gates says it hurts to be called a racist based on words she never said. lucia whalen spoke out for the first time today. a police report quoted her as saying the possible burglars were, quote, two black males. but the tape of her 911 call shows she never raised the issue of race. a glen arm woman is pleading for the return of her things after her home was target by a burglar. maureen nolan was target bade thief. the camera had pictures of her son's first baby and the last pictures of her mother in the months before her death. baltimore county police say they have seen a string of burglaries in that area. loyola college is one of the nation's best schools. that's according to the princeton review guide. loyola's residence halls rank second in the nation. its athletics facilities rank

gosselin is relocating to her own condo in rockville. jon and kate plus 8 reportedly bought a condo in a wealthy part of town just a block away from the office of her bodyguard. so when her husband is watching the kids in pennsylvania, she is enjoying her new condo here in maryland. the final coroner's report on michael jackson's death was expected to be made public this week. but there are reports tonight it may be delayed. so police can pursue leads in the case, a case that is now clearly focused on jackson's personal physician. here is abc's carla wohl. >> reporter: investigators will now sort through the medical records, computer hard drive, and cell phones seized from dr. conrad murray's home and office. sources tell the l.a. times they're hoping to find out who called around the time of michael jackson's death. >> i'd be shocked if we don't see that dr. murray is soon arrested or a grand jury returns an indictment naming

him as the criminal defendant for this manslaughter case. >> reporter: dr. murray was hired as jack's personal physician a couple of months before he died. jackson's chef, kai says in the morning she often saw him carrying oxygentakes out of the singer's bedroom. but she says on june 25th, she didn't see the doctor until noon when he came screaming down the stairs. >> at the end of the day, it was really just dr. murray and his patient michael jackson in the room, and his patient was found dead. >> reporter: a law enforcement source tells the associated press dr. murray admitted to giving jackson the powerful anesthetic propofol, which authorities believe led to his death. toxicology results have now been delayed until next week as investigators reportedly widen their probe to include various doctors who prescribe jackson drugs over the years, using more than two dozen aliases to conceal his identity. dr. murray, though, remains in

west at 8 to friend miles per hour. the sun comes up at 5 minutes after 6. we'll set at 8:20. we do have a thunderstorm watch in effect for the eastern shore as well as delaware, going up into new jersey. also in cecil county. and we still have got a severe thunderstorm warning in effect for southern portions of pennsylvania. and this thunderstorm watch on the eastern shore is in effect until 8:00 this evening. temperatures across the region right now, 81 in hagerstown. 79 in york. 84 in downtown. 81 in easton. and dover right now at 86 degrees. but that's to be change as heavy showers and thunderstorms now moving across the region are really going to cool them down. throughout the day, clouds this morning, lots of humidity around, very thick atmosphere. gave rise to some showers and thunderstorms moving across southern maryland. in fact, the southern portions of anne arundel county was under a severe thunderstorm watch. and also then a tornado warning for a period of time until 3:30 this afternoon. that has now been cancelled. and all the storms have now shifted to the eastern shore. here is the batch of storms to

receiving max's ashes, she received a cremation bill for nearly $300. $74 for cremation, $195 for transportation to and from the crematorium. lisa says a nearby pet cemetery they would have cremated max for much less. >> $120. >> reporter: the whole thing 120? >> the whole thing. >> reporter: but when we called, the vet's office manager said 269 was a fair and reasonable charge based on max's size is and would not reduce it. so don't let this happen to you. if you lose a pet, never make a rushed decision at a moment of grief. take some time to decide what to do. ask a pet cemetery what they can offer. and have a family member help with details and costs. we checked with another vet, and the website about.com and both said cremation costs for a large dog can cost from $100 to up to $300. please check with family

caught on tape, officers doctoring a police report to protect one of their own. and now one young woman is in double trouble with the law. >> wouldn't matter because she is drunk anyway. >> officers say that woman was drunk and charged with a dui. police put her in back of the cruiser after her sobriety test, never realizing the microphone outside the cruiser was still on. what really happened was a police officer rammed into the back of the woman's car, and instead of taking the rap, officers decided to change the report. >> as far as i'm concerned, [ inaudible ] she wants to accelerate, a cat jumped out the window, which at time could have been a pedestrian, which distracted him because he was concerned. and that's normal. and boom. >> four officers are now on
