towson. >> reporter: baltimore county police say their first priority is to locate all of the victims. right now we know there are at least three. last week police arrested 34-year-old john nicklas and his fiancee shannon honea. police say the couple made videos of the children ranging in age from 2 to 13 and sexually abused them in their middle river home. during a search of the home detectives also discovered several prescription bottles in the couple's bedroom and they say one of the videos shows a preteen girl apparently unconscious during the abuse. we talked to christine, who says she's the ex-wife of john nicklas, doesn't want her face shown but still lives with the couple, now in jail. >> i never thought he would do something like this. >> they must have got their search warrant and came back and took everything they need. a lot of stuff they took in bags. >> reporter: we have learned the couple are both emts for

the head. organizers say they know why the violence is happening. >> realize that anger is a problem and senseless and even worse. so what we are doing is saying that there is an alternative and that alternative comes to god. >> another vigil planned for this coming saturday. may not sound like it but there's good news about crime in our state. state police report a drop in murders across the board. the uniform crime report shows an 11% drop in murders from the year 2007 to last year. it also shows that violent crimes dropped about 2%. 10 people are recovering after a carbon monoxide leak, this happened in whitemarsh. it happened at the commons of whitemarsh on ship friend road. bge says that the leak came from two hot water heaters with clogged filters. six adults and four kids were treated at area hospitals. this complex is owned by sawyer realty, the same company that owns a townhouse complex in

"cash for clunkers" was set to end november 1st or when the billion dollars in government money actually ran out. now the government is assessing what to do next if the cash is gone. the house approved continued funding for the program. now it's up to the senate to pass an additional $2 billion

or the program will be suspended. "cash for clunkers" allows car owners to trade in their own gas guzzlers and receive up to $4,500 in government assistance. so far it's working. car sales are up. >> the good news is that apparently people are buying more cost-efficient vehicles. the best solution is to continue and extend the program as it is. >> this is a horrible policy idea. and the fact that people buy cars when you give them free money does not mean that's what the federal government should be doing. >> reporter: today president barack obama invited democratic senators to the white house to encourage them to participate in that program. coming up at 6:00, we hear what car dealers have to say about the program. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. 5:45. a look now at some of the other top stories we're working on. a baltimore county couple accused of sexually abusing young children, are behind bars

now. police say 34-year-old john nicklas and his 26-year-old fiancee shannon honea taped and abused children as young as 2 years old. investigators say some of the assaults happened in their home here in the 9700 block of conmar road in middle river. baltimore city paramedics under fire after they pronounced a man dead but he was still alive. police answered to a burglary alarm and found 51-year-old michael quarles in the store. they say he lunged at them with what they thought he was a knife so an officer shot him once in the head. he was pronounced dead at the scene but an hour later detectives saw he let out a sigh. the paramedics could face demotion, suspension or possibly termination. the suspect is in critical condition now. police searching for a man who robbed a woman at arundel mills mall. authorities say the victim was walking to her car when the suspect pulled out a knife and took off with her purse. police say the suspect left the area in a brown pickup truck

with a loud exhaust. police know who the man is but will not release his name until he's arrested. if you live in baltimore county you are one step closer to seeing speed cameras in your rear view mirror. county council last night introduced a mesh they're would put -- measure that would put speed cameras in school zones. it includes a 25 mile-per-hour buffer and grace period and police were issue warnings for the first 30 days. speaking of transportation, airline travel is getting a little cheaper for your four-legged friends. you got to love this if you have a dog or cat. through the month of september jetblue airways is offering a 50% discount on pet travel fees. so you can visit any petco store or go on-line to get information about the savings. you may want to double check your next credit card statement with the new federal law out about to be putting tough limits on your credit card company. there will be last-minute changes to terms. consumer reporter john matarese shows you what to look out for so you don't waste your money.

>> reporter: you knew this was coming, new consumer protection laws will place serious limits on credit card companies. as a result, many of them are now getting a jump on the new law, jacking up our interest rates before the government tells them they can't do it. even credit card customers who have never been late on a bill now receiving letters like this one with bad news about their interest rate. >> one has been raised up to about 22% or more. and they put you under a lot of stipulations in order to get it lowered. >> reporter: muffin jones tells me she had to pay off her card immediately to lock in a lower rate. wanda frias says she's always been a good customer but this year -- >> the interest rate kept going up. >> reporter: the reason according to the group consumer action is the new credit card act that takes effect in february of next year. the group says the good news is the law restricts rate hikes unless your card has a variable rate. the bad news? companies are switching millions of fixed accounts to variable. the good news, the law makes it tougher to raise interest rates

on existing balances. the bad news? companies are now raising rates before the deadline. and more good news, the law prohibits a rate hike if you're late on another bill. the bad news? they're raising it now. many cards refuse to back down. >> i called the credit card company personally and tried to dispute that but there's not a lot you can do. >> reporter: but consumer advocates say if you get on your phone you can still fight back. argue that you've been a good customer, threaten to switch to a card with a lower rate, finally, ask them to at least keep your existing balance at the old rate. so my advice? even though some credit card companies say their new rates are nonnegotiable it cannot hurt to call and ask. don't take the first no you get for an answer so you don't waste your money. i'm john matarese. i made promise and i like to stick with my word so let's go back to day one of the white marlin open. our view in ocean city.
