deeply gratified that the senate has voted to confirm judge sonia sotomayor as our nation's 111th supreme court justice. >> with that being said, judge sonia sotomayor is said to be sworn in tomorrow as the nation's first hispanic supreme court justice and the third woman ever named to the high court. the judge, however, was not in washington for the vote. she actually watched on tv from a federal courthouse up in new york. with the pedal to the metal, the congress now sent legislation to provide $2 billion for the cash for clunkers program. the president called it a proven success, but many republicans have the reservations saying that the bill to pay for those cars is going to come due on our children and grandchildren. sheriff's deputies in washington county charged a woman with attempted first- degree murder after they say she tried to kill her husband. here's what the court documents are telling us.

jack told deputies that his wife locked him out of the house and started to accuse him of cheating on her. then things got heated. he says she pulled his shirt over his head and stabbed him all over his upper body. 44-year-old barbara ann m university rbaugh is being -- murbaugh is being held. this woman was caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, and it's terrible. abc 2 news sherrie johnson tells us. >> reporter: jamie, we're still waiting on an i.d. for a woman killed when a man driving a stolen car smashed into her car. that crash happened on the corner of north calhoun and west lexington street yesterday afternoon. the regional auto theft task force is performing surveillance a few blocks away when they located a honda accord that was stolen. after the suspect was spotted, he started driving erratically, and police called off the sur suit -- pursuit.

he then crashed into another car. >> i would imagine why would he be coming through here doing 100 mile-per-hours? >> the woman was take ton shock trauma where she later died. police say the suspect is in serious condition at an area hospital. sherrie johnson, abc 2 news. here we under west baltimore. a car collided with a motor scooter at pressman street around 7:00 last night. the person on the scoot her to go to shock trauma, serious injuries. the driver of the car not hurt. witnesses say the car hit the scooter while trying to make a left hand turn. checking out that one restaurant you've been waiting to get into, this is the week. baltimore restaurant week starts today and runs through next friday at 120 restaurants in the area to choose from. they are all offering select three course dinners for $30 per person. if you can't make it to dinner, they are offering lunch specials for 20 bucks.

alaska. dorothy had just taken off when the pilot spotted a funnel cloud. dorothy grabbed her camera and caught this. in alaska, that's unusual, right, justin? >> every state in the country has actually had a tornado reported at one time or another. it's happened before on though it's uncommon. water spouts are much more tame than tornadoes. typically, those winds are under 70 or 60 miles per hour so you can stay a safe distance and not have a threat. 61 right now baltimore, easton. 54 back towards york, pa. so we've got ourselves cooler air in across the area. essentially, we're looking at clear sky as cross the board. we've got clouds back to the west. we'll call it mostly sunny, although i believe we'll dim out some of that sun this afternoon. a high temperature making it up

it's 5:43. there is a family hurting here this morning after being told that a stolen car is the reason. sherrie johnson has the story of a meart breaking crash. we were just talking that this could happen to anybody. >> reporter: you are absolutely right. she was minding her own business when all of a sudden this mangled mess was all that was left when a woman was killed after a man driving a stolen car crashed into her car. it happened on north calhoun and west lexington street just before 4:00. police say the suspect was spotted driving a stolen car but sped off driving so erratically, police called off their pursuit. six blocks later, the driver ran a four-way stop and smashed into the woman. although police did not chase the driver, some people near the scene said officers should have done more. >> they have helicopters, they could just follow him and set up a road block.

>> reporter: police say the suspect is in serious condition at an area hospital. sherrie johnson, abc 2 news. while with you are sleeping, baltimore city mees were out there looking for a female driver who they say hit one of their officers. sources tell abc 2 a female passenger was this that same car, tried to get out. that's when she was dragged down mcelderly street in northeast baltimore. police tell us both the officer and dragging victim should be okay. they are out there now looking for a gold honda. here's more of what abc 2 news is working on for you. get ready to roll up your sleeves three times this fall. doctors are suggesting one shot for the regular seasonal flu and possibly two more to pretect against the new swine flu. back to school shopping will be harder for a lot of families this year. many are dealing with layoffs and salary cuts. in anne arundel county, the office of school and family

23-year-old brandon weill slipped and fell 100 feet to his death. he graduated from annapolis high in 2004 and since then had been doing what he wanted to do, traveling to a number of different countries all around the world. the family plans a memorial service held at the davidsonville united methodist church at anne arundel county. the chief of pediatrics is at shock trauma after a car crash. state police say dr. jose alvarado's car ran into the back of a disabled tractor- trailer near pitsville yesterday. at last check, he was in critical condition. >> you might be pulling on that slots handle real soon. the baltimore city entertainment group has bought gateway south an 11-acre vacant lot close to m & t bank stadium. the city is counting on a big revenue boost from slots.
