web ads often make products sound nearly irresistible with their claims of free trials. in this week's scam alert, you'll see why sometimes you don't see what the ads offer, no matter what sites you see them on, even ours. here is joce sterman. >> reporter: teresa mckelvey is an abc2news.com junkie, searching daily for her news fix. she trusts our website and the ads that went along with it. so when she spotted a weight loss product on our site, she decided to give it a try. >> and i saw this article about baltimore woman lost 47 pounds. >> reporter: this is the article. it's really an ad for an acai berry cleanser that claims to help you shed pounds. they had offered a free trial on two separate product, but in the end, that's what she got. >> they're offering a free trial. it's not free. first of all you're going to pay for shipping and handling.
5:46 pm
and most importantly, it obligates you if you don't cancel within 7 to 10 days it obligateious into a monthly fee. >> and this fee was $88 for one product and $65 for the other. charges mckelvey says she was shocked to see considering she says the ad didn't mention she would be charged. >> you should really put that on your website the first time the consumer reads about your product. it's not just a cleanser. you're paying for a membership. >> reporter: a membership that is mentioned in the fine print but, not up-front. it's a common practice with internet ads that we've told you about before. but it's a practice we didn't want to trip up our viewers with, costing them money that they never intended to spend. >> i thought going on in the channel 2 website, that you knew about these products, and that you would endorse them. >> reporter: but we don't endorse this ad. that's why we pulled it from our website, protecting consumers like teresa, people who surf our site putting their trust in our web pages. joce sterman, abc 2 news. >> and of course you can get

5:48 pm
monitor heart rate and temperature, and you could change the color of the room depending on your mood. maybe the most practical feature, movable walls. >> we started the future hotel project about two years ago. with the purpose is to find out what do guests like in hotels at the moment, and how do they want to be a hotel, the perfect hotel. today and in the future. >> now we're told you shouldn't get too excited just yet. hotel owners don't expect any one hotel to have all of this stuff. but there could be a floor or two in top hotels with some of the options. maybe even the infrared lighting, which rejuvenates your skin, making you look younger after your hotel stay. now the forecast certified baltimore's most accurate by weather rate, and maryland's most powerful doppler radar. >> i think we've got enough sun working on us that we may not
5:49 pm
need the infrared. >> don't need any hotel rooms just yet. but it is a nice day. >> how are we doing? boy, it cranked up all of the sudden. >> all of the sudden the heat and humidity built, and the temperatures themselves aren't that impressive. they're in the low 90s. when you factor in the dew points and the heat and a humidity, that's when it gets out of control. let's take a look right now. we're looking at 93 degrees outside. a little bit of light breeze. westerly winds at 14 miles per hour. relative at 46%. and our barometric pressure is holding steady. here are the conditions out in the bay tomorrow there is your high and low tide. winds out of the west at 5 to 10 miles per hour. the high temperatures today so far 93 degrees at the airport there for us in baltimore. 92 in dover. 94 in hagerstown. yeah, we've seen them before. they're not that impressive, until you factor in the heat and the humidity. so that's the high temperature of the day as well as where we are right now. but when you factor all that in, you get a heat index, a feels like temperature of 100
5:50 pm
degrees in baltimore. 104 in dover. 110 in ocean city. so yeah, it feels hot. and that's kind of dangerous. we are under a heat advisory for most of the state until 8:00 tonight. mainly clear skies throughout the day today that will continue to be the case for a little while longer. and then we have some clouds moving in as we head towards evening and the overnight hours. see a batch of showers and thunderstorms that are coming just to the west there of the mountains. not sure that they're going to make their way over the mountains into our region. more likely that that activity will pass up into pennsylvania. that whole state is under a severe thunderstorm watch. taking a look, at what is happening as we widen the picture, high pressure is in control that is what is creating that big clear area there just to the south of us. that is what is also creating our heat and humidity. it pumps all the air in out of the south and the southeast. so the heat builds. the humidity increases, and things get very uncomfortable here. we do have a cold front that is
5:51 pm
going to be approaching the region. there you can see it off to the west of us. the line of showers out ahead of it. that will be making its way into the picture by tuesday afternoon. that's when things start to quiet a little quieter for us as far as the heat and humidity is concerned. things will lighten up. taking a look at the forecast. there you see not a whole lot going on tonight tonight or through the day tomorrow. tuesday we may see a couple of showers here and there as the front moves through. for wednesday, again, a fairly quiet day. most of the activity as far as showers are concerned stays off to the south of us. for tonight 75 degrees in the overnight hours. that is about where we're going to bottom out. so things are going to feel very warm and muggy. a couple of isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible. more likely we'll see those north along the mason dixon line. 92 degrees tomorrow, partly sunny and storms developing in tavern. and this is what it looked like as you head into the next seven days. the heat and the humidity continue for a while. and even once that front has passed through on tuesday, and
5:52 pm
things cool down for us, into the 80s for wednesday and thursday, it still stays on the warm side. this is one of our warmest weeks that we've seen thus far this summer. and those temperatures stay in the mid-80s, really right on into next weekend and into the beginning, the early part of next week. back to you. where do you go to get your prescriptions filled? do you run down to the nearest supermarket or drug store because it's convenient? but that can turn out to be much more costly than you think. john matarese has the results of a new consumer investigation so you don't waste your money. >> reporter: generic prescriptions are cheaper than brand names. that's a no-brainer. ask for the generic and you'll save money. unfortunately, that can lead to complacency and paying higher price than you need to. when tom baldwin needed a prescription, he went to the drug store his mom used for decades, walgreens. he was surprised when the family pharmacy charged them $136 for a bottle of a generic
5:53 pm
antiseizure medication. >> at first i thought it was just an error in their computer system. >> reporter: they were even more stunned when they checked the pharmacy at a nearby costco. >> the price was $15.90. i couldn't believe it. >> reporter: the receipt from the next visit shows the difference, $136 at walgreen's. $15.79 at costco. >> same pill, same strength, same medication. >> reporter: we did a price check for 120 homes for the drug. two walgreens quoted us $136. drug store.com just $71. a supermarket quoted us $56. and costco just 15 bucks. according to consumer reports magazine, it's not a fluke. they priced a 30-day supply of five common generics. walgreen's was again highest at $157. target 106. wal-mart 104. and sams and costco just $48.
5:54 pm
walgreen's defends its pricing saying it offers neighborhood convenience and has a prescription savings club with many generics just $4 a month. but in survey after survey, sam's and costco come in with the lowest prices. as the baldwins learned, you don't have to be a member to use their pharmacy. my advice, call ahead. compare prices if you're not covered by insurance. don't assume all generics are cheap, and that way you don't waste your money. i'm john matarese. and we've got some breaking news now out of california. take a look at this. this is a live picture. 32 people are stuck in what looks like the top of the roller coaster at the great american theme park in santa clara. fire crews are working to get everyone down safely. we'll stay on the of this and bring you any new developments as they occur. >> ooh, that's heart-stopping. i'm marybeth marsden. here is what else is coming up new at 6. in just over an hour, a town hall on health care will

in portland, a 92-year-old man is seeing the world for what seems like the very first time. this is martin alvi. he suffers from macular degeneration, and has been legally blind for a few years now. but after a dizzy spell, marty spent the night in the er, and it was during that trip that marty told the doctors he could see again.
