than the airport readings. across the rest of the area, we're looking -- apologize for that -- 76 degrees in westminster. a little hint of high thin clouds in the sky. we have a 74-degree mark in glen burnie. overall we're checking out basically a dry start to the day. isolated thunderstorm could pop up after 4:00 p.m. north and west and roll through the beltway probably around 5:30 or 6:00 with temperatures reaching our two-degree guarantee of 92. then we'll pull back in the 80s for the rest of the week. more on that coming up. 6:31. let's see what's happening on the roads with kim. >> we've got some volume building on the west side of the outer loop between liberty road and route 70. volume building also on the east side between whitemarsh boulevard and loch raven boulevard. but things are running along smoothly at this hour. if you're traveling southbound on the bw parkway keep in mind there's still going to be slowing from the earlier accident at route 175 and 1295. the -- 295. the slowing tarts about route 100.

senator ben cardin hosted that meeting. he faced a lot of opposition to the president's plan. cardin defended health care reform. he says the bill would provide more choices. he also says several committees in congress are still working on different versions and how to pay for it. >> we want to be able to provide a system in which every person in this country has access to affordable quality care. >> reporter: senator cardin will appear at another town hawg meeting on health care in hagerstown today. and president barack obama will answer questions at a town hall meeting later today. log on to abc2news.com and click on "protesters rally against health care reform" to tell us how you feel. it's in the slide show. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. outside the meeting things were just as heated. >> what do we want? health care! when do we want it? now! >> there was not enough room for everyone inside so huge crowds lined the streets outside the center for the

arts. armed with signs and loud voices, making their concerns known. opponents clearly outnumbered those who supported health care reform but everyone agreed citizen involvement is good for the democratic process. while there was a substantial police presence there were no reports of serious problems. 6:34. the reward leading to the arrest of suspects in the shooting death of a liquor store owner in baltimore county has now gone up. the korean-american grocers and licensed bever age association offered an additional $2,000 for information leading to the arrest in the murder of 57-year-old joon am gang. he was shot and killed last month during a robbery in his store, putty hill liquors. the reward is now $4,000. employees are also trying to raise more money. >> people should not be taking other peoples' lives especially over a lousy couple bucks which you're going to get from a liquor store. >> when i came in this store i never ever thought about somebody robbing this.

people, just crashed. >> you want me to tell you what my husband thinks? my husband is not the secretary of state, i am. >> secretary of state hillary clinton tells the world who is boss. >> you asked my opinion. >> it seemed like this town hawg meeting had more people than last night's orioles game. what they had to say and the way they said it. >> i can't believe you said that. >> i know. i just read it, you know? these stories and more coming up. a first check of the forecast now - >> 6:44. we are looking at temperatures this morning at 71 degrees. got to add a caveat. this is bwi marshall, downtown, 78, 79 degrees which is pretty much in tannedem with the big cities around the region. 78 philly, 77 new york. storms blew through 10:00, 11:00 last night in baltimore, dumped up to a half-inch of rain and 50 mile-per-hour wind gusts downtown. we're left over with the heat. while it looks cloudy at least

on the satellite i think it's just a high thin overcast and milky white shading to the sky, not the deep blue a lot of us had yesterday. overall the forecast model indicating there will be more storms erupting to the northwest by 4:30 this afternoon, reaching to 6:30 around the beltway. then we have an isolated shower overnight with more storms trying to come through tomorrow afternoon and evening and could linger especially around the eastern shore and shoreline as we head on in through thursday morning. this afternoon's forecast downtown baltimore, two-degree guarantee at 92. we'll reach the low nineties in baltimore and carroll county with a better chance of a late afternoon thundershower but we'll break that heat and have the 7-day forecast in a bit. let's see what's happening on the roads with kim. >> traffic is moving along nicely here on the west side of the outer loop at liberty road. as you make your way to the route 70 interchange, don't have really any incidents to let you know about. however, bw parkway, keep in mind you may see slowing starting about route 100, that stems from the earlier crash at route 175 on southbound 295.

that has the left shoulder blocked but traffic starting to build and the delays will probably build there as well. we have a downed tree still in the area of greystone road and old york road, in the white hall section of baltimore county. use caution there. and in essex, north marlin avenue and catherine avenue, that crash remains on the scene. jfx at cold spring lane, building volume southbound towards downtown but traffic is moving without problems at this hour. jamie and joce, back to you. breaking news. we have gotten reports eunice kennedy schreiber has died. a family spokesperson told several news organizations the sister of president john f. kennedy died at cape cod hospital in hyannis, massachusetts surrounded of course by family. you'll remember that eunice founded the special olympics back in 1960 with her husband. they lived for a long time in potomac, maryland here. she had been dealing with bad health recently. she was 88 years old. we'll take look at her life with "good morning america" coming up at 7:00.

tell us how you really feel. last night you came in with a fever about this health care plan. >> hundreds inside, hundreds outside. no one can remember a town hall meeting quite like this before. abc2 news sherrie johnson has our rally recap. >> reporter: good morning. the health care debate rages on. today president barack obama prepares for a town hall meeting to provide more information to the public but last night senator ben cardin took center stage at towson university. fielding angry questions on health care reform. the debate is growing louder across the country and towson was no different. the 500-seat auditorium was packed. cardin had to deal with boos and jeers and at times had to shout over people as he tried to explain the bill. republicans say it's true opposition to president obama's health care plan. democrats argue republicans and special interest groups are orchestrating the discontent. whatever the case may be many people are not happy about the proposed health reform.

>> i just don't agree with it. >> this bill will be no different because they are all scams. we have lost faith in the system. >> reporter: senator cardin will appear at another meeting on wednesday in hagerstown. log on to abc2news.com and let us know how you feel about the health care reform bill. click on "protesters rally against health care reform" on our slide show. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. the battle was just as heated outside, as hundreds of people who couldn't get in voiced their opinions. >> what do we want? health care! when do we want it? now! >> huge crowds lined the streets outside the center for the arts armed with signs, bullhorns, very loud voices. supporters and opponents making their concerns known. >> they are saying if we stand up and have a criticism of the program and want to be heard that is unamerican? we were told through the war that the best -- highest form of patriotism is descent. we're trying to have a say in this and they are not allowing us. >> are you concerned that

demonstrations like this could derail the debate in washington? >> no. i think it was a gentleman, just down the hill that said the train is coming. >> while there was a substantial police presence for last night's event there were no reports of any serious problems. the first nationwide vaccine trials of the h1n1 virus continues today at the university of maryland school of medicine. a total of 400 adults and seniors will get the vaccination. 67 people will get it today. and there are three studies taking place across the nation but in our state the focus is on what is the right dosage. two days after getting the shot participants will report any bad reactions to the vaccine. after receiving the shot volunteers will then return in 21 days for a second dose. researchers say the study should be finished in less than two weeks. going to be another hot one today. the code red heat alert will be in effect all day. the best way to beat the heat, not go out if you don't have to.

the air conditioning in baltimore, there are several cooling centers opening at 9:00, will shut down at 7:00 tonight. each center has air companying, water, ice, and there's free bus service to help you get to the cooling center. get a list of all cooling centers on our web site, abc2news.com. while we're feeling the heat, people in western new york are dealing with flash floods. this dramatic video was taken by the erie county sheriff's department. rescuers had to pull eight people and five dogs to safety after a nearby creek flooded the campground. those people waited six hours before a helicopter was able to pull them to safety. using a basket. you can see them pulling victims up. officials say it's a miracle they escaped with only minor injuries. in tokyo one person is dead, dozens injured. we had an earthquake in japan. this quake hit tokyo and nearby areas shortly after dawn. trains had to be stopped, two nuclear reactors had to be shut down just for safety precautions. police say a 43-year-old woman

was killed by falling debris, 63 more were hurt. we are also understanding that there was a tsunami warning but it's since been lifted. a rescue helicopter sent by taiwan's air force crashed on its way to the village. all five people aboard haven't been found. meanwhile 130 people were committees cued from the -- rescued from the village, another 100 people not accounted for. seven feet of rain was dumped on the island. the parents of murder witness with it carl lackl, trying to advocate for cell phone jamming in prisons. law enforcement officials say it could reduce the amount of crime organized from behind bars. lackl was going to be a witness in a maryland murder trial against former drug dealer patrick byers. he's in jail on drug charges, and it's believed he ordered the hit on a cell phone.

a robbery suspect who held an elderly man hostage in northeast baltimore is still on the loose this morning. police say two men robbed a bel air road gas station around 9:30 yesterday morning. they pistol-whipped an employee before running into a home on mary avenue. a 94-year-old man was in the home, police surrounded it and sealed off the neighborhood. >> we knew we had an armed suspect on the inside and bringing that hostage out safely was the main priority. >> the police directed me to come here and i got gas. just stayed all day to watch what was going on. >> what did you see? >> all s.w.a.t. teams, the police activity here. the helicopter overhead. >> police eventually used tear gas to flush out the suspects but one of the men escaped in the confusion. that 94-year-old man we told you about was not hurt but taken to a hospital in case. 6:52. usually when you go to the amusement park -- are you

kidding me? this ride won't end. 40 people stranded 40 to 80 feet in the air at the great america in northern california for more than four hours. riders were shaken but otherwise ok. the park says the chain which lifts the coaster got stuck. the ride had been at the park for 11 years. officials say this is the first time they've had such a problem. the ride will be shut down until they figure out and fix that chain. hillary clinton has a message for the entire world. bill clinton is not the secretary of state. she's over in the congo and a university student asked her about her husband and what he thought about an international financial matter. listen. >> wait, you want me to tell you what my husband thinks? my husband is not the secretary of state, i am. >> ( indiscernible ) >> you asked my opinion, i will tell you my opinion. i'm not going to be channeling my husband. >> state department officials say that the student approached hillary clinton afterward and told her he had meant to ask

what the president -- not what bill clinton thought about the chinese loan. a senior clinton aide said mrs. clinton assured the student not to worry about it. a new coffee shop is preefng a business model that is not usually taught in business school. >> they are hoping to give back to the community. >> this denver coffee shop is giving away all its coffee drinks for free. no catch. the owner hopes you will take the money you would have used for the coffee and do something good with it. a group of friends used the money to start a business with a simple paper clip. they asked people on craigslist to trade them anything bigger and better for it. eventually it traded up to a chevy malibu. a paper clip nor a car. and they started the shop up. free coffee, everybody. 6:54. we got temperatures in the 70s. this afternoon's two-degree

guaranteed high 92. a little cooler than yesterday's 94 but you're going to feel every bit of it with the humidity sticking around and some evening thunderstorms starting to pop up especially north and west. there's a chance we could have isolated showers tonight. temperature staying into the lower 70s. as we head on in through tomorrow we'll notice actually more clouds around and a better chance of showers into the afternoon. high 86. we'll stay generally in the middle 80s but definitely a pullback on the thermostat for the remainder of the week and into the weekend and about each day there's a chance of scattered showers or thunderstorms but today should be the last day of this 90-degree heat wave. 6:55. here's kim. ? the beltway is still looking great at this hour as we check liberty road, down towards the baltimore national pike and the route 70 interchange. no real problems or delays at this time. however, i'm getting word of a crash on the inner loop at pulaski highway. that is in the rossville area. that does block the right lane and block the merge lane there. however, the exit is still accessible. also 295 northbound approaching route 32 and route 175, that
