hour. all the earlier incidents have since been cleared. that earlier accident on north caroline and east eager street has been cleared. jfx and northern parkway, see that everything is moving along nicely there. back to you. she's a community activist who has always taken a stand against crime in her neighborhood but last night she was shot simply sitting in her house as a stray bullet came flying through the window. abc2's sherrie johnson is on top of this story for us. >> reporter: the shooting victim was well known in the community as miss shirley. she was known for cleaning up the cherry hill area and fighting to keep kids off the streets. now crime found its way in her home. miss shirley was at home watching tv in her south baltimore home when a stray bullet came through the window and hit her in the shoulder. it happened about 9:00 last night in the 2800 block of carver road in cherry hill. police responded to a call of shots fired in the area and moments later received another call of a woman shot. neighbors say several men were in the street and at some point

shots were fired and one of those bullets found its way into the victim's home. miss shirley was taken to shock trauma with nonlife-threatening injuries but police need your help. if you have any information on this case please call 410-396-2499. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. 5:33. believe it or not it happens. delaware state police charged a maryland man with his fifth dui. delaware state police stopped this man, christopher kendall on the eastern shore. it happened monday for driving more than 100 miles per hour on 495. a trooper pulled over his pathfinder, did a check and learned he had four previous dui convictions. kendall is charged now with driving under the influence, aggressive driving, speeding and improper lane changes. maryland state police hope a newly released sketch is going to help them identify a murdered woman whose remains were found in carroll county in march. police believe it's a white woman, late teens, maybe early 20s, petite build, remains found in an overgrown area

behind a manufacturing company on baltimore boulevard in westminster. so if you recognize her or have any other clues in this case call maryland state police now at 410-386-3029. now to a yard sale that was red hot in anne arundel county. a severn man is chard with burglarizing a neighbor's home and selling the stolen goods at a yard sale. the homeowner says she was driving down reese road with her daughter and saw her stuff sitting on someone else's lawn. >> i turned around and sure enough everything was mine. probably three or four things were not, the tables weren't but everything they were selling was. >> police say the yard sale items were indeed stolen from her home. they arrested david perticone, he said he lost his job and house and needed money and he said he thought the home was abandoned. >> i thought they were going to foreclose and go to the dump or whatever. i thought it was going to go to waste. i wasn't thinking right but i'm

thinking i'm going to get these things before they go to the trash heap. >> police say the items were worth about $25,000. perti cone is charged with burglary and theft. >> what a story that is. >> amazing. police need your help trying to find a man wanted for stealing credit cards. the harford county sheriff's office says the theft happened between friday july 3rd and saturday july 4th in the 1300 block of cherokee lane in bel air. investigators say the credit cards were used at a royal farms store on churchville road to buy gas. also at the home depots in bel air and whitemarsh. here's a look at what is happening, august 12, 2009 -- safeway is the latest grocer to slash prices. and today big bargains with some prices cut as much as 25%. and mayor sheila dixon will announce constellation energy's donation of $500,000 towards tree baltimore and the launch of the baltimore neighborhood energy challenge. get your signs ready.

welcome back. 5:44. people around the cherry hill area simply know her as miss shirley, standing up against crime an violence. >> yesterday, she was just sitting in her house when she was hit by a stray bullet. sherrie johnson has more. >> reporter: police are looking for the person who fired several shots and hit an innocent woman. known as miss shirley, sitting at home, watching tv when a stray bullet came through and hit her in the shoulder. the shooting happened 9:00 last night in the 2800 block of carver road in cherry hill. police responded to a call of shots fired in the area and moments later they received another call of a woman shot. neighbors say several men were out in the street and at some point fired a gun and one of

in on the debate. new details out of washington about the militia movement making a comeback. the southern poverty law center says groups with gripes against government starting to form again across the country, could grow rapidly. the center crites the recession and the liberal administration headed by a black president as one of the reasons. tough times continue to plague the governor's administration. governor o'malley says state government will have furloughs. at a hearing yesterday the deputy chief of staff declined to comment on how many days about employees would have to stay home saying the plan is still under discussion. back-to-school shopping is still underway and local kids were picked for a shopping spree at target. 25 kids from the salvation army shelter were set free in the store in west baltimore for school supplies. they picked up backpacks, lunch boxes and all the other necessities you need to gear them up for the school year.

"us" magazine reports the older sister of michael jackson is in serious talks to join the show. this season's line-up will be announced next monday. we'll have to wait and see. and jennifer hudson has a new role, a new mom. the 27-year-old oscar and grammy winner gave birth to a healthy baby boy monday. last fall she suffered a tragic blow when her mother, brother and nephew were all shot in chicago. she first gained fame as a top contender on "american idol." later won an academy award for best supporting actress in dream girls and earlier this year, won a grammy for her self-titled debut cd. >> how about that? >> she became unforgettable.

stuck here for quite some time. it will probably slip on the cooler side of the boundary where we're looking at showers already erupting, holding together in the mountains of west virginia, the front extends all the way to the gulf coast. high pressure trying to build in but we have high pressure off the southeast coast and big block in the atmosphere. so this boundary gets hung up for a couple days, while the heat suppressed to the southeast we're going to be stuck with that chance of showers and thunderstorms for quite some time. today 85, low end of our two-degree guarantee with showers trying to develop around lunchtime and this afternoon, thunderstorms that will likely continue this evening and tonight. we'll settle back to about 68 degrees. scattered showers and storms continue tomorrow. we'll knock it to 83. where it's possible some of our western suburbs, western howard and carroll county could be stuck in the upper 70s. as we head on in through the rest of the week, really not much variation in temperature. 84 friday. 86 saturday. 85 sunday, monday. take your peck. just mid-80s with scattered showers and thunderstorms but at least we'll slip into the
