empty? it seems, or it all seems to depend on your point of view when it comes to the economic reports coming out of washington tonight. abc's lindsey davis looks at the numbers. >> reporter: in the economic forecast, there are dark clouds and silver lines. >> you look at the big picture, there does appear to be a trend going upwards. it may not be very fast and it may not be very smooth. >> reporter: there are several bumps in the road to economic recovery. while we've seen an increase in new and existing home sales, we're also seeing an increase in foreclosures. in july, there were more than 360,000 foreclosure filings. that's up 7% from june, 32% higher than this time last year. according to government statistics, just 15%, or 235,000 people facing foreclosure have been helped. >> numbers of foreclosures that are happening in this country are historic. and they're not lessening. i think that's the thing that

the least, especially if you headed downtown, or if you're stuck downtown, maybe waiting for people to get out of your way. a lot of people headed to the game there. we did get a downpour briefly. let's take a look at where that particular heavy rainshower is right now. now south of the city, but it did dump the rain down in earnest for just about 20 to 30 minutes straight across the stadium. moving pretty quickly off to the south into south of the elkridge area, and also toward the airport. so watch out for that if you do have a flight to get to this afternoon. satellite pictures. overall things are pretty quiet across the state. as a matter of fact, other than that one cell, things are pretty quiet. we do have a flash flood watch over on the eastern shore of maryland. but so far not seeing a lot of rain there this afternoon. headed to 67 tonight. mostly cloudy, look out for a couple of showers through the evening. but i think for the most part, the game should go off without a hitch later on this evening. hopefully most of the rain now completely out of here for that. we'll talk more about some hotter weather coming our way for the weekend. that's straight ahead.

thunder and a heavy shower. it moved out fast, almost as fast as it came in, right? that's good news for us. but hey, you know what? get the jumbo wide screens ready for the game tonight. i think we're looking at pretty good weather, if you get the barbecue going in the backyard. it's going. we're getting ready for some football, right, terry? >> yes, sir. take a look at the current radar picture. you see the shower tracking steadily off to the south and east. terry nailed it. umbc has cooled off 10 degrees because of the shower. tracking right around the airport right now. i think we're going to continue to look pretty good. as you zoom out a little wider here on maryland's most powerful radar, you see there is not a lot north of the city. the flow is from north to south right now. so up here in the general direction of the pennsylvania state line, we're just not seeing much new activity. that bodes well for the game tonight. and here is what we're seeing in the inner harbor now. behind that heavy shower, the sun has come out. the birds are singing, probably, and we're looking good tonight as the ravens take on the redskins. 72 degrees the current

temperature. so it has cooled off behind that shower, sort of a side benefit. not as hot. now weather concerns right now. flash flood watch is up for the eastern shore of maryland. this does not include the immediate baltimore area. but as you cross the chesapeake bay bridge, soaked ground here across caroline county, and a lot of the counties here, talbot on down into the eastern cambridge areas, dorchester, watching out for more rainshowers tonight because it wouldn't take much to trigger a flash flood. again, that is up through midnight tonight. almanac numbers through the day. we topped out at 81. 86 normal. so we snuck one in there, about 5 degrees below average. nowhere near the old records up around 100 degrees. temperature-wise right new, you see the difference from just a couple of days ago, and we were pushing into the 90s. we're now looking at 70s and 80s this afternoon. not a bad deal. edgemere 82. we're looking also at chestertown at 83 right now. temperature-wise this afternoon, we have cooled off significantly at bwi because of that shower moving through the area. most of the rest of central

maryland in the low 80s right now. and the humidity is still quite high. we did top out earlier today at 81 degrees. it was unseasonably cool, even with the highs in the low 80s. bay forecast. great day to get out on the chesapeake tomorrow. high tide, look for that just before 1:00 tomorrow afternoon. sun up at 6:18. sunset 8:03 tomorrow. and a light easterly breeze that will keep the wind around the 80-degree mark because the chesapeake right now, the water temp at 80 degrees at the surface. visible satellite pictures. we're seeing some clearing right now as the sun begins to set. right now just not much going on. if you look carefully here, there is one cluster of cloud cover that is that renegade shower that hit downtown. but the overall weather pattern, a clearing one. high pressure building in out of the west. and most of the active weather for the rest of the weekend, i think is going to stay offshore. that's where we have our stalled out frontal boundary. that cool front that dropped us out of the 90s that is basically sticking around offshore here the next two days. that will keep the showers
