6:30. it's where you bring out of town company. it's where baltimore shows off how good it is but today you have to wonder what is happening at the inner harbor. abc2 news linda so with a scary saturday night. >> reporter: it's always a scary thing to hear about any kind of violence at the inner harbor but this time it's really got people thinking. after shots rang out in a busy landmark. two people were shot in the light street pavilion near phillips seafood restaurant after 10:00 saturday night. a 20-year-old man shot in the leg, a teenaged boy shot in the arm. "the baltimore sun" reports both victims are suspected members of the pludz gang. police say the -- bloods gang. police say the shooting rang out between members of two gangs. the police commissioner and mayor are calling for a more aggressive crackdown against gang violence at the harbor. some say despite the crime they will keep coming back. >> i will come back. i like it here. >> it won't change my, i guess, opinion about the inner harbor. we would still come back.

>> reporter: police haven't made any arrests. if you have any information on the shootings call police at 410-396-2411. linda so, abc2 news. the mayor of ocean city says the resort town needs to toughen up a law that requires carbon monoxide detectors in hotels. three people had to go to the hospital. many others got sick after a leak last week at the americana hotel at 9th street. the hotel did not have c.o. detectors and the mayor rick meehan says the current law is strong but needs a way to make sure the building owner obey it. president obama says his health care reform plan would not set up death panels to review end of life care. now it appears the only thing facing a death penalty is a controversial -- a death panel is a controversial element of the president's own plan. dropping the public option of the reform package. >> reporter: at a town hall in grand junction, colorado saturday, the most pointed

question addressed the government run public insurance option. >> how in the world can a private corporation providing insurance compete with the entity that doesn't have to worry about making a profit? doesn't have to pay local property taxes? >> reporter: the president's response hinted at a softening of his position on the issue. >> the public option, whether we have it or we don't have it is not the entirety of health care reform. this is just one sliver of it. one aspect of it. >> reporter: on fox news sunday democratic senator kent conrad, key negotiator of the health care bill called for the president to drop the public option. >> there are not the votes in the united states senate for the public option. there never have been. so to continue to chase that rabbit i think is just a wasted effort. >> reporter: on cnn's "state of the union," kathleen sebelius says she doesn't consider a public option indispensable. >> i think what is important is choice and competition.

one couple's wedding went to the dogs literally. if you didn't have a date you could bring your favorite four-legged friend. the italian couple says they just loved dogs and want pets

to be part of their big day. the dogs got decked out and watched the couple walk down the aisle. i wish they would get their nose out of our business. shih tzu's anyway. look at this. the annual weiner dog race in seattle. qualifying for the finals were between horse racing and these little dogs ran, go, go, go! their hearts out. on their little legs. come on. couldn't go to the wedding but i can do this. next on "good morning maryland" -- a romantic getaway in italy for just a penny. how some couples lucked out getting this ridiculously low price. get ready to rev your engines. a major indy car racing event comes to baltimore.

73 philadelphia. 63 allentown. 71 in richmond. satellite and radar composite shows we have clouds around, they are breaking up pretty quickly and as the sun continues to come out more and more we'll have a pretty warm one for us today. the extended forecast shows we're looking pretty good throughout the day and into the day on tuesday. then we have a front start to stall out to the west of us. we may see a couple rain showers and thunderstorms from that on wednesday. tropical storm claudette made landfall in the florida panhandle. continues to move up into alabama throughout the day today. 40 mile-per-hour winds now. and it looks like the track of that storm is going to take it far enough to the west of us we shouldn't be troubled too much with rain from it. 91 degrees today, partly sunny and hot and for tonight looking at a low of 68 degrees, partly cloudy and humid. let's check the roads with kim with with. no real problems on the major roads. 95 southbound approaching whitemarsh boulevard, traffic

building towards the 695/895 split but no real incidents or problems at this time. however, we're working a few incidents in the county, in harford county, white hall area, a crash at white hall road at norrisville road. in rosedale, route 7 between middle river road and king avenue remains closed at that intersection because of downed power lines. expect utility crews to be there. and use pulaski highway as an alternate there. and hanover crash and butler road, a crash there. just be aware of that. downtown at mlk and fayette street, no real problems to let you know about. as you head towards downtown baltimore this morning. back to you. gangs at the inner harbor. that's enough to scare you into plan b especially after saturday night. linda so has more. >> reporter: after this weekend's double shooting in a busy landmark many are saying safety is in jeopardy at the harbor. two people were shot in the

light street pavilion near phillips seafood restaurant after 10:00 saturday night. a 20-year-old man shot in the leg, a teenaged boy shot in the arm. "the baltimore sun" is reporting both victims are members of the bloods gang. the shooting apparently broke out after members of the bloods and crips got into a fight. the mayor and police commissioner say they will not tolerate this kind of violence at the city's top tourist destination. commissioner bealefeld ordered his officers to be more aggressive when it comes to questioning suspected gang members. it's been a rough couple of months at the inner harbor following assaults by young people which prompted greater police presence. now this latest incident it giving baltimore's premiere jewel a black eye. >> we've heard about baltimore, we heard all the bad things about, all the bad things happening, the crime and stuff like that. we, like, still come here. then we seen tonight what happened and like, wow, it was really a nightmare. >> reporter: if you have any information on the shootings please call baltimore police at

410-396-2411. linda so, abc2 news. olympic gold medalist michael phelps says he'll be back in the training pool today despite the sore ankle he got in a car crash thursday night. police say he was driving with an invalid out of state license but the accident wasn't his fault. investigators say the other driver ran a red light and caused the accident. no one was seriously hurt. a teacher accused of having sex with a 16-year-old female student at his alexandria home. mark jackson, an instructor at herbert flowers how school in prince george's county -- high school in prince george's county, according to papers jackson befriended her in september of 2006 when she was in one of his classes. authorities say they started to have sex in december. a search for a prisoner who escaped last week. the family of the prisoner,

devon champagne said she called police after he showed up at their home friday. the deputy is expected to be ok after an attack by him during the escape. if you you see him call police at 911 right away. he's considered dangerous. a boating accident in kent island saturday, four people hurt in the crash, one still in the hospital and in critical condition. police say jeff solder of chester was driving the 30-foot boat, it ran aground on cox creek, happened saturday night. police say the gps wasn't working properly and believe he had been drinking. he's now in critical condition. let's look at tropical storm claudette. the first to hit the u.s. minuteland this year. the storm made landfall on the florida panhandle near fort walton beach. claudette's maximum sustained winds are near 50 miles per hour but the storm is expected to weaken as it moves across land. lurking more ominously in the tropical storm, bill, it was

expected to turn into a hurricane today as it moves over warmer waters on the open atlantic. for the wildfires. they are still burning near santa cruz but hundreds of people are back in their homes this morning. a mandatory evacuation was lifted. residents in bonnie dune were allowed to return home. the fire burned through more than 10 square miles of the rugged terrain since wednesday. hot dry winds fans fires in a dozen areas as firefighters continue to fight the flames. they say they've only contained about half of the fires. fans of elvis gathered in graceland this weekend for the anniversary of his death, for 32 years thousands have gathered in the front of graceland mansion just like they did august 16, 1977. when the news of elvis's death was announced. even though we are more than three decades, emotions of fans are still running high. a candlelight vigil saturday night brought out hundreds of fans of elvis.

when you leave your house, say in bel air and you roll down harford road, you take the beltway down to 83, park over the tower, you welcome the checkered flag that you made it to work. now amp it up about a thousand, and you have the baltimore grand prix. here's sherrie johnson. >> reporter: yes, sometimes driving around downtown baltimore can feel like you're on a racetrack. today there will be a news conference to announce a real race coming to baltimore. it's the baltimore grand prix. it's coming to baltimore in 2011 on a course that will be near camden yards at the inner harbor. promoters say that means international exposure bringing 150,000 people to baltimore and getting $100 million for the city. some race fans worry that while the city can present a great tourist package, can the city get its roads into track shape? >> i think it would do wonders for the city. clean up the roads. the roads do suck. they are not -- definitely

not ready for grand prix. i was in monaco. that race was amazing. >> reporter: the news conference kicks off at noon at the sports legends museum at camden yards and two-time indianapolis 500 winner al unser jr. is expected to attend the news conference today and will be here tomorrow. fans in south korea celebrating y. e. yang's historic win over tiger woods. it makes the 37-year-old first asian-born golfer 110th in the world, to win a major golf tournament. he beat tiger by three strokes. he had to be quick but there was quite a deal. a four-star hotel in venice mistakenly offered a romantic weekend for just a penny. this cheap price was offered on their web site. at first the hotel thought somebody hacked in there but later found out it was the

error on the hotel's main office. the offer was supposed to be for a two-night stay at half price. a night at the 151-room hotel normally runs from $128 to $214. the hotel says it will honor the guest bookings despite the one-penny pricing error. a florida woman has been reunited with her lost wedding and engagement ring thanks to a good samaritan and tv station. patricia dash found the rings outside of a restaurant in west palm beach and wanted to find the owner. she knew someone was missing the rings and went to a local tv station for help. the station did a story on the rings, the owner was shocked to see her missing jewelry on the 11:00 news. >> and when he said she found them both i was he ecstatic. i thought there are still good people around. >>i wanted to give the rings to the rightful owner. >> the two women met and instantly became friends. patricia says she was so happy to find the owner of the rings.

91 degrees. over the next seven days we're staying in the 90s all the way through tuesday, wednesday, and into thursday, probably into friday as well. we're looking at some thunderstorms coming into the picture from wednesday on. then things are going to stay unsettled for us all the way through into next weekend. let's check the roads with kim. traffic is moving mostly at speed on 95 southbound as you make your way towards the 695/895 split. 95 southbound approaching whitemarsh boulevard, no problems there. however, i'm getting word of a disabled vehicle, that is going to be on the outer loop around liberty road. it's off to the right shoulder, not really causing problems at this time but we are working a couple of crashes in the counties. white hall road at norrisville road, crash remains on scene there. in the rosedale area, route 7 between middle river road and king avenue remains closed because of downed power lines. use pulaski highway as an alternate. in baltimore county, reisters, hanover road at butler road, crash remains on the scene there. jfx at cold spring lane --
