there's a science fair and i mean going to grow an apple tree from a seed, and that's what she did. we had a delicious apple in the house, in the fridge. she planted the seeds, and it's now in the backyard taller than the house. >>reporter: but unlike the apple tree she never had a chance to grow. her potential came to the end with the bombing of pan am flight 10 # which crashed in 1988 a few days before christmas. now the only person found guilty of the crime is a free man, released because he has cancer and only months to live. >>i mean experiencing a new level of grief. it's an undertow of a rip tide of despair that this could have come about. >>reporter: they believe that while he may have been the only person in jail the bombing of pan am 103 involves more feet. the big fish escaped justice and now he has too.

members of the jury, which is the intelligence agency, they say it was state ordered. everybody on that plane has something to offer. whole families were lost. a 2-year-old baby. this is just an inkrensable thing that they would let this man go home. >>reporter: she's published some of her daughter's writings and a book of her own. it reminds people of not just what a wonderful person she was, but what was lost to the world by an act of terrorism. >>it sent him home in comfort to his family. it's just an outrage. reporter: abc 2 news. police arrested two other suspects in the racially motivated beating of an elderly man earlier this week. 16-year-old zachary watson and

17-year-old emanuel miller were arrested in the beating of james privott. they used tips from the community to find these remaining suspects. lockner was arrested shortly after the beating and theft to the victim's suv. lockner is charged with a hate crime. the teens will not be though. >>they are being charged for assault. both of them are being charged with attempted first degree murder, and charges related to the theft of the vehicle. bail for lockner was denied. the teens will appear for their bail review tomorrow. ten people were taken to the hospital for evaluation after a carbon monoxide incident at a baltimore county warehouse. it happened just before noon at the case mace packing warehouse on the yellow brick road in roseville. carbon monoxide likely bltd up from the propane fueled forklifts being operated inside. workers say they were feeling dizzy and lightheaded. police are searching for the p earn who shot a teenager

in northwest baltimore after 2:00 this morning. sources tell us that neighbors called police because the teen was lying in the middle of the belle avenue. the teen had been shot in the head. he was rushed to the hospital in grave conditionment. a former baltimore city teacher who's already a registered sex offender now has been sentenced to ten years in prison for possessing child pornography. according to a plea agreement he was convicted two years ago of third degree assault for unlawful sexual conduct with a then 13-year-old former student. he received a ten-year jail term with all but 18 months suspended. he was on probation at the time of the latest incident. following his new sentence he will be supervised for life upon release. a man says his mistake led to a two alarm fire in baltimore county last night. 30 people have been displaced. it happened on spiedwood court at the gateway town homes in ess

skweks. several town homes were destroyed. hannon wishes he could turn back the clock. he blames himself. it happened after 10:00 last night as hannon was getting ready for bed. >>i came out of the shower, i had aen call burning like i usually do. i laid down to have a nap, probably knocked it off on the floor. i wake up to fire. i tried to put it out myself. it didn't work. now here we are. >>part of the roof collapsed and the fast burning flames melted the building's siding and even damaged the foundation. no one was hurt. emergency management officials and the red cross worked together to make arrangements for the 21 adults and nine children displaced by the fire. friends and family paid their final respects for a baltimore city firefighter today. james edwin smith jr. died last thursday at his home in fairfield pence vein yeah. no word yet on the cause of death. smith joined the dment in 1990 and recently worked out of

now abc 2 news at 6. massive construction is underway a aberdeen proven ground. today leaders broke ground on a $50 million project outside the base in the heart of edgewood. jeff hagger has more on those redevelopment plans. >>we used to climb the water tower behind us and have a lot of campouts out here. it was the military housing development with lots of kids. it was very fun memories growing up as a child here. >>reporter: rob reviews what's left of washington corp., a housing complex, the ground of the massive bltd up for world war ii. over the decades the people disappeared and viens began choking the life out of the buildings that remain. today marks the beginning of the end of that type of neglect and problems for a community that deserves a lot better. >>reporter: executives have

the winds. still a dangerous storm. moving at 16 miles per hour, but as it moves northward it will run into cooler water which means it will limit it a bit. it's not threatening the continental united states though. it's turning. a few clouds around today, but lots of sunshine. that moisture flow continues to give us all that humidity up the eastern sea board, which is giving rise to the shower and thunderstorm activity, which is currently showing up on maryland's most popular radar. the activity in pennsylvania is now falling apart a tiny bit. no precipitation here right now, but there are more showers down to the southwest that will move in our direction as the evening goes along. don't count them you the. they'll be very spotry showers across the region because of the heat and humidity though. it continues across the region tonight. overnight it calms down. tomorrow once again it bubbles up because of the heat and humidity. then again on saturday the same kind of a situation.

have been hurt nkt accident. that's about all we know. if you have to go into south baltimore ignore the area of 95 and 395. big accident. major credit card changes go into effect today. what does it mean for you? credit card companies send bills 21 days in advance. they have to notify a customer 45 days before raising the rates. customers have the option of declining the new rate by paying off existing balances under the old rate. keep in mind, this is just a first round of protection. additional changes will take place in february of 2010. the feds are calling one of the largest cases of identity theft. a south florida man is charged with stealing more than 130 million credit card numbers. albert gonzalez hacked into the systems of stores like barns and noble, tjmaxx and office maxx. there are things you can do to protect your identity. >>if you're going to be shopping online i suggest you look
