it's going to be a hot, huggy one for us tonight. a mix of clouds and clear areas. you see a couple of showers coming in across the mountains moving up into pennsylvania. we'll see showers and thunderstorms later on in the day more towards afternoon and the evening hours. 85 by noon and partly cloudy skies. 89 this afternoon and again, some of the downpours could be heavy. we may need flash flood watches or warnings later on this afternoon. see what's happening on the roads. here's kim. >> reporter: friday is off to a great start as far as the morning commute is concerned. just have a little bit of building volume as you make your way around liberty road towards malt more national pike. no problems on the beltway, either. headed out to the beach as well, route 50 eastbound and the bay bridge are checking in without any problems. on the outer loop on the east side at hartford road, the tire treads remain in the right lane blocking the right lane so use caution if you are traveling that area. checking the jfx, no problems to let you know about.

if you are looking for a business that you know you can trust, let your better business bureau do the work for with you the business directory. so easy to choose. log on to abc2news.com/bbb. jamie, back to you. this is scary. you take the heat, you run for two hours, you have a problem. a high school practice should serve as a lesson to all of us. >> reporter: you have to take it easy because the heat can make you sick. that's what happened to a dozen high school football players. it happened yesterday during practice around 5:00 p.m. players with the ken island buccaneers varsity team were on the field about 35 minutes when they started to get sick. some developed cramps and nausea. none of the students were seriously injured but had to be take ton local hospitals for eat exhaustion. some were released, others are still there. >> reporter: most of them appeared to just maybe need iv fluids, a little rehydration,

maybe some oxygen and cooling. >> reporter: this hot weather can be dangerous. remember, there are things you can do to prevent heat-related illnesses. stay hydrated, drink lots of fluids but stay away from alcohol and chicagoery drinks. avoid drinks that are too cold. they can cause stomach cramps. tray to stay indoors in an air conditioned place. if the ac isn't working, take a cool bath or shower. if you have to be outside, limit activity to morning and evening hours. take breaks in the shade so your body can recover from the heat. all 12 football players are expected to be okay but it is a reminder for all of us to be careful in the extreme heat. linda so, abc 2 news. and recovering after a building had to be evacuated because of dangerously high levels of carbon monoxide. the evacuation happened just before noon today right here on yellow brick road in rose dill.

according to firefighters, the ce likely built up from forklifts being operated inside. workers say they were feeling weak, gizy, and light headed. one woman's no stranger to co. she lives at the cove village apartment where's it's been an ongoing problem. just this week a young couple who live at the cove had to go he to the hospital. >> i can't get away from itp at home i get it here i get it, so i don't know what i'm doing. it's everywhere now. >> reporter: investigators have advised the owners of the business to evaluate the ventilation system and ways to prevent a similar problem in the future. at this point, you've probably seen all of the t- shirts, hide your beagle vic's an eagle. one bar owner in washington is taking on the nfl franchise. steve kaufmann is an animal lover and is boycotting the eagles and their corporate sponsors. his message? get rid of vick. he refuses to show any eagles

games in his bar and considering puking beers that sponsored a team like coors and miller. >> we just seem to say, okay we'll continue to spend money and buy the product. i think it's time we stopped and said hey, it's enough. >> kaufmann says the boycott will last as long as vick stays on the team. >> you might start paying more for your morning pick me up at starbuck's. it will increase prices by as much as 30 cents on some drinks such as the cold blended frappucino. most items will increase 10 to 15 cents. changes went into effect yesterday in select cities and will eventually expand into other markets in the next couple of months. some of the basic items will have price cuts. that includes 5 to 15 cents look a plain cup of joe. amtrak will be extending price cuts up and down the regional service through december. amtrak draft achelely reduced

maryland. when you see that heat index, yeah, it feels warm out there. feels like we're more like the mid-80s on the eastern shore. feels like we're already in the 90s on ocean city. we have a mix of sun and clouds throughout the daytime hours. also, we're seeing shower and storm act tirvegty west of the mountains. it will be heading up north into pennsylvania. hurricane bill out in the atlantic ocean still a strong, dangerous hurricane. good news is the front that's coming through to bring us relief will steer this hurricane away from it. here we go. the hur can goes up towards the coastline. the front steers it out to sea and we are not looking at any problems except for a little bit of heavy surf along the coast. for today a high of 89 degrees. >> thanks, susan. we look at route 32 as you drive through howard county

approaching the capital beltway. same thing with our southbound routes. 29 southbound look goods until you get to silver spring. keep in mind that there is fire activity at feather wood drive and old columbia pike with all of the lanes blocked. aside from that, we have a couple of incidents working around the beltway on the outer loop approaching hartford road. tire treads still not cleaned up. getting reports of a crash on the ramp. looking at the 41st street, traffic is moving along nicely as you move southbound into baltimore. whether it's the ravens camp or kent county high, football players push themselves. in this heat, you have to be careful or else this could happen. linda so has the story that will make all teams have a light practice on this friday. linda? >> reporter: you show up for practice, do what the coach tells you, and then you get

sick. it's what happened in queen anne's county around 5:00 p.m. players with the buccaneers varsity team were on the field for about 35 minutes when they started to get sick. some developed cramps and nausea. none of the students were seriously injured but had to be taken to local hospitals for heat exhaustion. some were released. caroline newman's son was one of the players who got sick. >> it's very hot. the temperatures are out there, and the coaches need to take into consideration there are a lot of kids and need to make sure that, you know, they have water. >> reporter: this hot weather can be dangerous. remember, there are things you can do to prevent heat-related illnesses. stay indoors at an care

conditioned place. take breaks in the shade so your body can recover from the heat. also, football players are expected to be okay but it's a reminder for all of us to be careful in the hot weather. linda so, abc 2 news. a plane that crashed in tawnytown two weeks ago may have stopped in the air before falling to the ground. the plane's propeller wasn't turning before the crash and the fuel was contaminated . the pilot of davidsonville and female passenger 66-year-old letty williams of edge water crashed about a quarter mile from the air park. the full investigation report could be released sometime in the next year. here's the latest on the hate crime against a 76-year- old man in baltimore. the family will take legal action. james privott is back home where his wife must monitor him 24 hours a day. along with cal ver lockner who's already behind bars,

police picked twowp teenagers related to the beatings. they are 17-year-old eman y'all miller and 16-year-old zachary watson. they face theft and other charges. they tell police lockner was the ringleader in this racial attack. >> we're not in the position to know the full extent of their beliefs and a lot about their lives. >> it's not the group giving the direction. it's rather the people who belong to the groups for whatever reason who tend to be acting on their own ideology. >> reporter: there are 13 known racist groups that are active in our state, including the maryland skinheads based right here in baltimore. a 2007 documentary on the hate group is posted on youtube. new little fallout from a baltimore marriage proposal.

state delegate jon cardin has offered to reimburse police after staging an elaborate marriage proposal. he arranged for the marine unit to pop the question to his girlfriend. the republican party chairman calls now for a legislative ethics panel to investigate further. chris says lawmakers should determine whether cardin used his office to abuse police resources. cardin's girlfriend said yes that night and continues to say yes. the only man convicted in the 1988 lockerbie bombing that killed 270 people including eight from maryland has now been released from a scottish prison. he was supposed to be serving a life sentence but has terminal cancer. he was preed on compassionate grounds. >> you don't allow someone who has murdered, you know, premeditated murder and let them walk away. >> he was given only a few

months to live and he boarded the plane and landed to a festive welcome home. a former teacher sentenced for having child morning if i will spend ten years in prison followed by supervised rea leaf for life. back in 2007, he was convicted for unlawful sexual conduct with a then 13-year-old former student. he was sentenced to ten years for that crime. investigators say he was on probation when he was caught with the child pornography. the new michael jackson film will be coming out around the world. release date fort film "michael jackson this is it" will be october 28th. tickets go on sale and the movie will give us a behind the scenes glimpse for a series of shows in london. former homeland security secretary tom ridge says he was pressured by other members of president bush's cabinet to raise the nation's terror alert level just before the 2004

presidential election. in a new book out, ridge says that he objected to raising the security level despite the urgings of former defense secretary donald rumsfeld and john ashcroft. ridge says the episode persuaded him to leave the administration. >> it was easy to laugh afterwards but during it you don't realize how captive you are at 29,000 feet in a small airplane with such a big guy. and when you think back on it, it was scary. >> high-flying flasher forces a southwest plane to make an emergency landing. during the flight, the man exposed himself to the woman sitting right next to him and then punched her in the face. he did not cooperate with flight attendants. police say he was completely naked when he was taken off the plane. wal-mart is recalling more than 1.5 million dvd players because they could overheat and
