their children. >> absolutely nothing about it. that's why i'm waiting until school starts to find out about it. >> i don't know if they're going to do vaccines in the school or having all the children go to the local health department. >> reporter: trials on children began last week, but the timetable for producing mass doses of the vaccine still points towards mid-october. federal health officials have still identified five priority groups. that will include pregnant women, 6 months to 24 years, health care workers. it will also include adults with underlying health conditions, and individuals who live with or are around children under six months of age. >> reporter: governor martin o'malley says maryland is the first state in the country where every acute care hospital is committed to an early warning system, where they'll monitor emergency room visits for any sign of an outbreak. as parents wait for a vaccine, he is urging them to get their

children immunized for the ordinary, or seasonal flu. >> that vaccine is already available. and citizens make sure that they schedule right away a time with their doctor so that they can get that seasonal flu shot. >> reporter: in the meantime, schools are also prepared to look for signs of infection among the returning student populations. >> is monitoring the daily attendance and sharing that information with the health department, and sharing the daily who gets sent home, if anybody from the health room. >> jeff hager, abc 2 news. the state is lobbying health insurance companies to cover the cost of the two-shot h1n1 vaccine for students, and the government will provide it free to those without coverage. and as four million college students move into dorms for the new school year, there is growing concern about possible youth outbreaks on college campuses as well. universities across the country are said to be stocking up on

masks and hand sanitizers. we want your two cents do. you think maryland schools are ready to handle swine flu outbreak? log on and look on the right side of the home page to vote in the online pole. the agent for tony fein says his client was profiled by police over the weekend. police say the 27-year-old linebacker was arrested on sunday evening after he allegedly assaulted a city police officer. security officers at the light street pavilion at harbor place say they thought fein passed a gun to a friend, but it turned out it was just a cell phone. when city police went to investigate that. >> say fein shoved the officer. fein's agent says he was profiled. but today baltimore's mayor fired back. >> i don't believe that's the case. and i don't accept that in this case at all. >> fein was released on his own recognizance, and is due to appear in court october 7th. baltimore county police say they don't have much to go on in the murder of a man over the weekend in owings mills.

but authorities do believe the victim, 51-year-old scott greenburg may have known his attacker. greenberg's ex-wife found his body at his parents' home on velvet valley way. she was going there to drop off the couple's two children, but it didn't seem he was home, so she called his father. >> the father-in-law told her where there was a key. she got the key and went into the house and found the victim dead in a pool of blood on the kitchen floor. he had been shot multiple times int the upper body. >> there were no signs of forced entry. we're told greenberg owned a snowball stand. police have arrested an elderly man charging him with the county's first homicide since october of 2008. officers were called to an assisted living community on cedar lane in columbia last monday for a reported assault. investigators believe that the suspect, 87-year-old earl wilder, was sitting outside when unprovoked, he began to

strike a fellow resident in the head. the victim, 91-year-old james brown, was taken to the hospital and he died on saturday. glen burnie man has been arrested for impersonating a police officer in anne arundel county. this morning police say they were notified that a man inside a dark-colored oldsmobile cutlass attempted to stop vehicles on route 100 in glen burnie using a red strobe light in the front windshield. officers located the vehicle and arrested the driver, 18- year-old robert mace. the archdiocese of baltimore has removed a cumberland priest following allegations of sexual abuse. the archdiocese says 73-year- old monsignor thomas bevin is not allowed to function as a priest until the investigation wraps up. the archdiocese says a former student at a parrish school in frederick says he was abused by bevin back in the '70s. the archdiocese says bevin denies the accusations. one of baltimore city's most historic churches welcomes

back the faithful. bethel ame held its firsts is in almost two months. the church steeple was struck by lightning on july 1st, touching off a fire that damaged the steeple and the balcony. but the church managed to get the main sanctuary repaired and ready to go in time for a week- long community outreach program. the pastor says they couldn't have done it without the support of the entire community. >> we're going to have our first sunday service sunday, and we're going to honor the people who like the rabbi and bishop brown who have been so supportive, and we're going to that night have a unity in the community service. >> while the sanctuary was being repaired, the congress met at the temple in park heights. the reverend says they hope to have the damaged balcony reopened in a couple of months. may be slow going if you're going to the ravens game. public works crews are still trying to fix the 40-inch water

main between king and green streets on saratoga. the hole could be as deep as 25 feet. well, cash for clunkers officially ends tonight at 8:00. but many local dealerships have already hit the brakes on the popular rebate program. the saturn dealership for example of towson ended the program on saturday and had to turn some people away. many other local dealerships share similar stories, and some stopped making clunker deals even before that >> i think it gave people the incentive to go out and purchase a new car with the discounts that they were seeing. i think it's a really good idea, because maybe those people who aren't able to afford a car before are now able to do so. >> consumers were given up to a 4500 trade-in on their gas guzzler for a more fuel efficient model. maryland is asking for federal dollars to improve passenger rail service. state transportation officials have sent in an application

[ closing bell ] >> investors slowed down just a bit today after a four-day advance. a mixed day. the dow jones closed up 3 points. the nasdaq dropped 2. s&p closed down about a half a point. millions of older americans face what amounts to a pay cut next year. that's because we're not expected to get a social security cost of living ajudgment for the first time since 1975. that increase is tied to
