police say this is happening to women. we'll tell you all about it. an early morning traffic stop in the sinclair lane area and has police pulling out weapons and then firing. >> it's over. a man police think made 17 robberies is caught on this 18th try. how someone fought back. that and more just ahead. let's look at the weather. danny, this danny is going to be something. >> latest update came in a half-hour ago. danny is stronger now. let's just show you the location. we'll give you the specifics coming up in a couple of minutes. off the east coast, actually well east of the bahama islands as well. just wanted to highlight essentially we're watching this particular storm. that is chugging its way up the east coast. current winds with the storm itself are 60 miles per hour. as we continue to watch this storm and the track takes it very close to ocean city. on saturday. it will have an impact on our weekend forecast. 69 currently in baltimore. 81 ocean city.

a single neighborhood. >> reporter: police believe the flasher may live in the neighborhood, both incidents happened in apartment complexes not far from each other. take a look at the sketch. it's who police are looking for. the suspect has a distinctive mole on the left side of his face. the most recent incident happened on sunshine place in catonsville. police say the man climbed through an open window into the victim's bedroom where she had fallen asleep. completely naked. the victim screamed and the suspect ran away. police say that man also banged on a woman's bedroom window in brambling oaks way. she opened to see who it was and he exposed himself. it happens in the very early morning hours and has women living there on edge. >> my girls go out to play. i'm not so much scared for me. i figure i can pretty much defend myself but i'm worried about the children. >> reporter: anyone with information on the suspects' identity is asked to call

410-307-2020, baltimore county police or metro crime stoppers at 1-866-7-lockup. a $2,000 reward is being offered in the case. linda so, abc2 news. the state's $454 million budget cut is hitting home for one local family. i want to introduce you to the gapps of columbia. they have four lively little ones. two have autism. dad is unemployed. for several years the family has been getting money from the arcs rolling access program to help with school supplies and day care but the organization that works with the developmentally disabled is facing a million-dollar cut to the program. >> any income to buy things, we don't have it and they are there to help us. >> it's a way for people that are still awaiting ongoing services. to have this cut is going to be a tremendous loss. >> directors say the reduction affects 1,000 families across

the state. the cut is scheduled to take effect on october 1st. the struggling u.s. postal service is offering $15,000 in buyouts to employees all in an effort to save money. the move comes as traditional mail delivery is of course being hurt by the popularity of e-mail or electronic bill payment. 30,000 employees could take the offer which would save the postal service as much as $500 million in the next two years. however, the deal doesn't apply to letter carriers. at 10:49 in the morning on monday the headline on facebook read "the brass elephant is closed." when owner randy stall looked at the reservation book for this week he saw no table reservations. so he decided to put the four-story mount vernon building up for sale, use that money and try to reopen the restaurant under the same name. it's still a jolt because the brass was always one of baltimore's best restaurants. who's who really ate there for every occasion. when you buy a pack of cold

ones for your sunday night football parties there's a chance you'll pay more. the nation's top brewers plan to raise beer prices even as some top brands are seeing a drop in sales. anheuser-busch and miller coors will raise prices. the u.s. small business administration says small businesses are key to the nation's economy an are taking their message to the web. according to the report in the baltimore business journal the sba is using youtube to give current and potential entrepreneurs the necessary tools to start to grow and succeed in their businesses. the sba's debut video is a 60-second introduction to the group's programs and services. future content will give in-depth information on how to start and grow a small business and how to take advantage of government programs. even though many businesses in the united states are stepping up when it comes to using the internet to get their message across it just takes a

long time to get that message across. it turns out we're far behind other countries when it comes to internet speed. a report on web speed concludes america is 15 years behind north korea. the report from the communication workers of america also has the united states lagging behind japan, sweden, the netherlands and 24 other countries. you want speed? 5:36. headlines around the nation -- a police chase ends with a driver jumping out of what police say was a stolen car. you can see the car keeps moving. hits a curb and rolls down an embankment, passenger still in the car. the woman got out. car on her own. police grabbed the driver. his charges include speeding and theft. his female companion charged with theft by receiving stolen property. this 18-wheeler folded like an accordion after authorities say the driver tried to drive through this tunnel. authorities say that the tractor-trailer was 13 1/2 feet tall.

the tunnel was about 12 feet tall. it didn't fit. the driver tried to go through the tunnel with the truck. it got stuck. state transportation department says that the driver blamed his gps for routing him in that direction. let's go to spain where people pelted one another with tomatoes yesterday. this is a tradition believed to have started with a food fight in 1945. the main attraction of the town's weeklong festivity, tens of thousands of people gathered in the narrow streets. tourists joined locals to get involved in this messy celebration. i would love to do that. >> does that look fun to you? >> i would love to have the seeds of the tomato in between my toes. >> gross. i thought it looked fun until you said that. >> you don't like that? >> think about your toes at 5:00 a.m.? it used to be pickpockets. now they are putpockets. >> former criminals have their hands in people's pockets but it's for a good cause.

an accused serial robber is in custody after one of his victims fought back. >> detectives say since the beginning of the month the robber hit 17 times, throughout downtown baltimore hitting some businesses more than once. abc2 news brian cubler tells us how police finally nabbed their suspect. >> reporter: police say 39-year-old mark lomax was picked up after committing 17 commercial robberies in and around downtown baltimore. he is currently in the hospital recovering from a broken arm. simply because he hit this clothing shop on broadway in fells point one too many times. >> he's in the hospital? >> it makes me happy. really does. >> reporter: michael says the robber came back to the killer trash clothing store twice each time implying he had a gun. on the third time he says he was in the store watching his girlfriend close up. >> he turned his back, i saw a baseball bat behind the

counter, i started hitting him with it. he was blocking himself with his hands. i guess it's how he broke his hands. >> reporter: he had had enough but that didn't stop lomax. he went on to rob after that but it was his predictable pattern that led to his arrest. >> he was a repeat offender, went to one business, robbed them, waited a couple of days and weeks, went back and police caught up with him. >> reporter: police say lomax was relieved when finally arrested, a good thing, too, because some other business owners were starting to prepare for his repeat pattern. >> very happy. i was very relieved. >> reporter: business owners like rod thompson of tuxedo zone. he said the robber came into his store saturday night, tried on a tux and tried to rob thompson. an ex-city officer, thompson fought back and lomax made off with nothing. he left. but if he came back, which was his mo, thompson was prepared. >> that would be it for him.

if i couldn't get to it i would hit him with -- i was mad. >> reporter: it didn't have to come to that. lomax was stopped and arrested with only a broken limb rather than missing ones. in baltimore, brian cubler for "good morning maryland." >> lomax still recovering from the broken arm. once out of the hospital he'll be charged with 17 counts of robbery. harford county schools opened this morning. some start first grade, some start middle school and high school. but abc2 news sherrie johnson is live to talk about the new boss that starts today as well. >> good morning. it's the first day of school, it's so exciting and students here at bel air high school will have a treat this morning. the new superintendent, dr. robert tomback will board the bus and ride it on this first day of the school with the students. you may remember it was in june when the board of education of harford county selected him to fill the position following the death of harford siewptd jacqueline has. he's no stranger to education.

he spent time with the baltimore county public schools and received his doctorate from the university of maryland. the superintendent addressed the board of education in june in bel air and said he's looking forward to the new year and challenge coming up. right now we have bel air high school principal joe voskel joining me live. good morning. thank you so much for coming out. it was so sad when dr. haas passed away. right now we have a new era and new superintendent. what are your thoughts here? >> we're all looking forward to the new school year beginning. i think it will be exciting here at bel air. we're excited about the new building opening today for the students. >> reporter: this is a beautiful brand new high school. this is going to be very exciting for the students to come back to this. what other things do you have on in new school year that students are going to take care of? >> one of the things, we're starting the third year of our biomedical project with project lead the way and that is exciting for the kids. another thing we're doing under the direction of one of my

assistant principals, erica harris, we're starting a program for at-risk students where the teachers have all volunteered -- or not all the teachers but many of them volunteered to be a mentor to an individual student, to give them a little push, to be around when they need extra help and just to guide them through some of the pitfalls of being a teenager. but one of the things we're really looking forward to here is continuing the tradition of bel air high school. yes, it's a new building, yes, there will be some history. there will be some new other made, but the greatness of tradition at bel air high school. >> reporter: thank you so much for joining us. much luck. thank you. at about 6:25, dr. tomback, the new superintendent, will arrive here to board a bus to ride along with students on this first day. we'll also get on that bus and ride along with him. reporting live in bel air, sherrie johnson, abc2 news.

5:50. the good news is we have decent weather to get to school. the bad news, anybody trying to get to the beach before labor day, i don't think it's a good time to do so. 69 in town by the beaches, mid- 70s. representing this one, 75 towards norfolk but fairly similar temperatures up the coast, through ocean city and delaware. pull back a little wider and we've got ourselves basically a frontal boundary training through the north, wave of low pressure actually going to try to help to keep this thing from passing completely through. the old tropical boundary feeding away, what was left behind bill, this one still feeding moisture on in through florida. that could be problems for the space shuttle. but there it is. tropical storm danny. danny with winds of 60 miles per hour moving to the northwest at 9, 500 miles away from miami. watch the forecast track here for early saturday morning. it takes it within about 100 miles or so of ocean city and this point could be a hurricane with 75 mile-per-hour winds. we are definitely looking at beach erosion, strong winds,

high waves, rip currents, super dangerous. talking about flooding rain as well. where the rain sets up really depends on the specific track. then a cold front trying to sweep through the end of the weekend bringing us rain. 78 tomorrow in ocean city. 77 saturday with the heavy rain, gusty winds and that should try to depart by saturday night. for us today, partly cloudy, 85. we'll be looking at some showers trying to move in this evening and better chance of rain friday night and saturday. i'm just getting word of a crash on route 70 westbound at the columbia pike route 29, blocking the right shoulder. no word of delays at this time. checking 95 southbound looking at whitemarsh boulevard, traffic moving along at a very nice pace but we have a lot of work going on downtown, that closes a lot of key intersections. be aware of that as you make your way to downtown baltimore city. eutaw street closed between baltimore and saratoga. saratoga closed between greene and mlk. we're still working that crash, rav street at darleigh avenue.
