actually calmed down a little bit. right now they're 50 miles an hour. it is now just kind of meandering around. it doesn't really have a direction, moving west at two miles per hour. 427 miles to the east- northeast. there is danny right there. now the national hurricane center is still giving a prognostication, a forecast of danny staying off the atlantic ocean and making its way up to the north atlantic. however, there is another fly in the ointment that could cause us a little bit of problem. not danny, but a little trough of low pressure is sitting right here over sections of northern florida and down into the carolinas. now what is going to be happening is this little trough of low pressure is going to start making its way northward. it's actually going to track in this direction right there. what that means is that here in the maryland area, the rainfall that we're going to see tomorrow night and during the early portion of saturday, most of it is going to be coming from this system as danny tracks off the coast.
5:07 pm

5:16 pm
stay well out into the atlantic. but we're still going to have some high surf along the eastern seaboard, and some rip currents and things of that nature. but the thing that is going to be concerning us is that little trough of low pressure right down here in portions of northern florida and the gulf of mexico. this little trough of low pressure is basically sitting right through that region right there. what it's going to do, it's going make its way northward. as it makes its way northward as a little area of low pressure, it's going to be bringing in some moisture into the region. now what we're going to be finding is over the past 12 to 18 hours, that's what it's been doing is basically meandering its way northward. so consequently, as it gets northward, it's going to be bringing in pretty good rainfall to southern portions of virginia and into the maryland area. in the meantime, danny tracking off the coast. we've got two systems moving northward there is one moving northward. here is the second one moving northward. that's the system that is most likely going to bring us more of the heavier rainfall. danny will cause some problems as far as the coastal sections.
5:17 pm
but not here in the baltimore area. we're going to be basically in pretty good shape. satellite picture throughout the day. as you can see, a few little light clouds around the region. right now we've got a one little light shower out to the west right there, just made its way across the pennsylvania- maryland line. for tonight it's going to be precipitation-free until later on tonight. that's when we'll see showers start making their way into the region. again, the larger picture showing that area of low pressure starting to make its way northward, as the showers stream right across the pennsylvania-maryland line. just scattered showers for the overnight period late tonight and early tomorrow morning. but then tomorrow afternoon, that's when the heavier rainfall will move up the eastern seaboard, associated with that little trough of low pressure. as far as what is going to be going on across the region, as far as our forecast is concerned, the few clouds that we've got around right now will continue to thicken through the overnight period. there is the few little light showers. during the day tomorrow, that's when the heavier rainfall moves in our direction. that's the result of danny right there, making its way northward. a few scattered showers will remain in the region. but looks like the heaviest

with several types of cancer, including leukemia. in this new study, researchers looked at insurance claims from almost a million patients in five different parts of the country. the patients were between the ages of 18 to 64. the study found that between 2005 and 2007, nearly 70% of adults had at least one medical test that exposed them to radiation, mostly in low doses. but some patients were getting higher, more concerning levels of radiation. repeated testing can have a dangerous cumulative effect. researchers point out that while the technology has life- saving benefits, physicians and patients need to be aware that radiation is not benign. according to the american college of radiology, 83 million ct scans were performed in 2007. they caution that patients should not avoid important medical imaging due to fears that may be raised by the new research. but agree with the study authors that the patients should only get the procedures
