traffic starting to build in both directions. no problems on route 50 towards the capitol beltway. 97 is running smoothly northbound towards 695. we really don't have any problems at the tunnels. however, if you're traveling southbound on 83 notice a crash off to the shoulder at belfast road. police on the scene and that is getting a little rubbernecking attention causing slowing but not too major of a delay. as you peek at the jfx at northern parkway, traffic is light and moving nicely in both directions. back to you. the latest now on the push to bring slot machines to maryland. maryland's video lottery commission has conducted a site visit for anne arundel county slot proposal near arundel mills mall. thinks the commission's final tour of the four proposed locations competing to operate a casino. there's a public hearing underway to get the public's comments about all of this. >> we'll see maximization of revenues and building in a regional commercial center that is already attracting 14

million people a year. it's really a no-brainer. >> commissioners already visited sites in baltimore city, cecil county and worcester county. yet another case of animal abuse in baltimore city to tell you about. this is at least the third case that we have told you about this year involving a kitten. bark shelter says a woman watched as a group of boys held and swung this kitten by its tail even hitting the cat's head on the ground. it happened on wilkens avenue in southwest baltimore. the woman then took the kitten from the boys and another woman brought it straight to barks. >> if you have children that are doing this kind of cruelty and violence they go on to do violence towards people also. it's a known fact. so, children like this need to have help. they need to be caught, they need to be helped in some way. with their violent behavior. >> the kitten has been named miracle. and miracle has a broken jaw and will need surgery. police are investigating. meanwhile, the city's recently

kicked over the 8 and ran off with it. the four suspects have been identified as 19-year-old matthew rainer, jason stoneburner and patrick reynolds from essex. 19-year-old gary parker from baltimore. all four face theft and vandalism charges. it was put in as a tribute to kidnap -- ripken's retirement. officers say they got a call for disorderly conduct and when police showed up it was pretty obvious loo they were dealing with. >> shortly after the call we received a call for a disorderly in the 3000 block of bomb -- lombard street. four intoxicated males argueing with each other. when they arrived they found the 90 number 8 statue in the back of the truck >> police are not releasing the video because they want to use it to product the suspects. no word on when the number 8 will be returning but fans just want it back in its rightful place. live in camden yards, linda so, abc2 news.

welcome back. let's look at the weather with justin berk. >> 5:40. we start with a cool damp feel to the air. not a lot of rain but definitely a couple of sprinkles around and a lot more of that where it came from. 64 degrees now in baltimore. 61 up towards york. 63 in easton. essentially this is going to be the day, the third day in a row where we have to deal with the threat of showers and cool

weather. you can see the flare-up of showers we had overnight settle down. more off the coast. and much more just offshore. we'll have to show you in a couple of minutes. so the threat of showers will be with us the first half of the day. this afternoon, through tonight, it increases to a steadier rain. the winds pick up, could be gusting over 30 miles per hour. we also have that threat of some flooding, especially at high tide along the west shore of the chesapeake bay. highs today only 6 -- 68 degrees. traffic is off to a great start. no real problems to let you know about around the beltway or tunnels as we check at route 50 and route 97. traffic moving nicely as you make your way towards the capitol beltway and the baltimore beltway, depending on the direction you're going. still working a crash on southbound 83 at belfast road. it's off to the shoulder, police are on the scene and getting a little rubbernecking attention from southbound drivers causing a little slowing approaching that area. give yourself a few extra minutes there. and jfx at northern parkway, traffic moving nicely, no problems to let you know about.

"the washington times" confirms that one of the three accused of the rape is actually the son of a foreign diplomat. abc2 news sherrie johnson is here to explain what that could mean in the case against him. >> reporter: one of the suspects in the gang rape case is adedamola adeniran. his father is the new u.s. ambassador from nigeria. the suspects were arrested for the july gang rape of two women in baltimore city and another woman in august. police say in july two victims accepted a ride from the suspects in downtown baltimore. investigators say the women were threatened at knifepoint and taken to a nearby high

school parking lot and raped. another female victim said she was raped under the same circumstances in august. she was able to identify the license plate from the car which led police to one suspect and he gave up the other two. now, according to published reports since the suspect's father was not yet serving as a bass door at the time -- ambassador at the time of the arrest he will not receive diplomatic immunity. >> we can argue threat to public safety and flight risk and say, judge, we think this person might run if given the opportunity and also there are threats to public safety because of the nature of the crime so violent an heiness. >> reporter: all three men are being held without bail as they await trial. a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for september 15th. live in the studio, sherrie johnson, abc2 news. 5:45 now. here's a look at some of the other stories we're working on for you this morning. several morgan state students a little banged up after this crash in loch raven last night. sources tell us just before

11:00 a car slid and an suv crashed. this is the end of the really bad day. one of the passengers had just been released from the hospital after being mugged. then got into this wreck. none of the injuries appear to be life threatening, though. this accident up in harford county leaves a gaping hole in a churchville home. folks were busy boarding up the hole in the guest bedroom after a street sweeper crashed into the house in the 2600 block of palmyra drive. neighbors say the machine was preparing the road for a resurfacing project when it rolled down the hill and into the home. >> from what he told me what happened he parked by the silver truck, went to the other neighbor's house to get his truck removed, the blue truck. and, that neighbor's house, the sweeper took off on its own. >> that bed used to be against the wall. i didn't move anything in there. it pushed the bed about four

pressure sliding out of eastern new england and as that high actually worked its way into the atlantic it will shove this low pressure back on shore. that is the reason for the increasing winds and threat of pretty moderate rainfall. it's just getting going so it doesn't look as impressive as it really should demonstrate as we head in through today. let's pull it wider in reference to the east coast. a lot of us dealing with the wet weather. high pressure just off the corner and all getting that push on shore and that pressure gradient will increase the wind already having winds over 30 miles per hour in ocean city and they are looking at some really high surf. in fact some of the models forecasting over 15-foot waves just off the coast of the delmarva by tonight. very impressive storm and will be responsible for strong winds and heavy rain, high surf which includes the west shore of the chesapeake bay and high tide, especially tonight between 11 and midnight, we could have localized flooding. if you live near the water you know what you could expect. just prepare for that. hurricane fred still out there with 105 mile-per-hour winds.
