showers underway, but with the strong wind out of the east you'll feel it already pushing 20 to 30 miles per hour and prompted a coastal flood advisory not only for the shoreline and pink shaded area, the small craft advisory on the bay but on the west shore of the chesapeake. look for high tides this morning. baltimore listed at 10:51 this morning and 11:50 tonight. take an hour, hour and a half up or down south on the chesapeake with the location. there's moisture. there's the storm off the coast and already throwing in showers this morning. just a few spotty showers becoming more widespread and steady rain expected by this afternoon and tonight. strong gusty winds and our two-degree guarantee of only 68 degrees. 6:31. let's check the roads with kim. >> we have heavy traffic here on the west side of the outer loop, things are going to be running pretty heavy between 795 and route 70. again, no incidents at this spot but traffic, i guess everyone decideed to go to work at the same time. we definitely have a couple of

incidents we're still dealing with, one in howard county, southbound 95 at route 175. luckily that crash is off to the shoulder. just causing a little bit of minor rubbernecking delays. also in harford county on the harford county/cecil county line, route 1 closed in both directions at the conowingo dam because of a crash. try pulaski highway or 95 as alternates. on the inner loop at providence road we have reports of a crash there with some debris in the road with possible lane closures, just be aware. and the jfx at cold spring lane looking good in both directions. back to you. 6:32. pete "on the street" o'neal was out there on the scene of this crash in northeast baltimore. sources tell us a car carrying students from morgan state university slid on the wet roads, crashed into an suv on loch raven boulevard near havenwood. happened around 10:30 last night. no one seriously hurt but one boy in the car had a very bad day. he had just gotten out of the hospital because he was mugged. he's now recovering from this car crash. rumors about an electrical

short circuit caused a stampede that killed five people, injured 24. this happened in a school in new delhi as students were coming in to take an exam. five of the people injured are in critical condition. the students were ages 8 to 16. baltimore city firefighters are investigating a possible fire bombing. this incident happened around 1:00 yesterday afternoon in the 800 block of clintwood court. in the curtis bay area. when fire crews arrived on scene they found heavy smoke and fire come from the first floor of the two-story brick row home. fire officials think the fire may have started because of a domestic dispute. we're told that two women suffered injuries, they were taken to area hospitals for evaluation. baltimore county fire officials are working to make the neighborhood safer. it's all a part of a new pilot program kicked off in rogers forge. fire department personnel will be walking door-to-door at the request of concerned communities in areas with specific safety issues. they are going to be addressing issues such as smoke alarms,

carbon monoxide detectors and basic home emergency planning. those interested should contact the safety education division. 410-887-4876. saw a lot of suits at the mall yesterday. here's the latest on the push to bring slots to maryland. maryland's video lottery commission conducted a site visit for anne arundel county slots proposal near arundel mills mall. they are competing to operate a casino. commissioners already visited sides in baltimore city, cecil county and eastern shore. he was hired in the same month as the stock market crash in 1929. and today in middle river the glen el martin aviation museum will honor its oldest employee. 101-year-old joe grant began working for the company in

october of 1929. later this morning he'll take a tour of his old business. grant helped assemble famous planes such as the china clipper built in middle river, the first transpacific air service. grant's friend robert morgan spoke about working under grant and even reflected on grant helping start saudi arabian airlines. >> they were pioneers over there. there was nothing except desert. every time we took a flight it took guts. >> joe grant, 101. coming back. he's flying into middle river this morning. there's also a book about his famous life here. 101 years old. >> amazing. he had his own tv show. we'll tell but a famous visitor, coming up in a bit. visiting baltimore again. in the meantime, as you may know, weddings can cost you a

storm. we've had a few days of cloudy wet weather. it goes back to labor day where we had showers from the same general system. now it's getting a push back on shore. there's high pressure coming out of new england, slides off the coast and that actually pushes this storm inland towards us. we've already had the winds picking up 20 to 30 miles per hour in sports this morning. watch the rain come from east-to-west and building in by lunchtime. if it doesn't happen to be raping at noon at your -- raining at noon at your house it will be raining in the afternoon. hour by hour, chance of moderate rain for the evening commute, baltimore south and west and annapolis towards dc, extends through 9:00 this evening through most of central maryland and the strong winds will be with us as well on in through tomorrow morning. begins to wind down a little, most of the rain of that storm slides in through eastern pennsylvania and new york. we get another shot at showers through midday friday. 68 degrees and it will be gusty, up to 30 mile-per-hour winds this afternoon. that is our two-degree guarantee. only about 67 with heavy rain

video business directory. go to abc2news.com/bbb. back to you. look at the e-mails we're getting on the cal ripken story. joe writes in, this memorabilia thing is getting out of hand. a long national nightmare is over. >> we're talking about the ripken 8 monument ripped out of camden yards is safe this morning. abc2 news linda so live with where it was standing. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. these are the numbers of the great orioles players retired over the years, 33 eddie murray. over here cal ripken's number 8 is missing after police say four drunk men ripped it right from its base. police say the whole thing was caught on tape as the four men pushed and kicked over the 8 and ran off with it. the four suspects have been identified as 18 and 19-year-olds from essex and baltimore. all face theft and vandalism charges. the statue was put in back in 2001 near the park's eutaw street entrance as a tribute to ripken's retirement. officers say it didn't take long to catch up with the

"good morning america" will have much more in a couple of minutes. to an update on a story involving a gang rape in baltimore city. >> "the washington times" confirms one of the three men accused in the rape is the son of a foreign diplomat. abc2 news sherrie johnson joins us with what this means in the case against him. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. one of the suspects in the gang rape case is adedamola adenirans his father is the new u.s. ambassador from nigeria. the suspects were arrested for the july gang rape of two women in baltimore city, another woman in august. police say in july the victims

accepted a ride from the suspects in downtown baltimore. investigators say the women were threatened at knifepoint and taken to a nearby high school parking lot and raped. another female victim raped under the same circumstances in august. she was able to identify the license plate from the car which led police to one suspect and then he gave up the other two. according to published reports since the suspect's father was not yet serving as ambassador at the time of the arrest he will not receive diplomatic immunity. >> we could argue threat to public safety and flight risk and say judge, we think this person might run if given the opportunity, and also there are threats to public safety because the nature of the crime is so violent and hurricane yes, -- heiness. >> reporter: all three men held without bale as they await trial. a preliminary hearing scheduled for september 15th. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. time 6:52. a bizarre accident in harford county leaves a huge hole in a churchville home and the

family, if they were home at the time it could have been tragic. it's hard to believe a street sweeper crashed into the house in the 2600 block of pal hira drive. the -- palmyra drive. the point of impact inches from the baby's room and left a huge hole on the side of the house. the family was away on vacation at the time of the crash. neighbors say that the machine was preparing the road for resurfacing a project when it rolled round the hill and into the home. >> from what he told me what happened was he parked by the silver truck, when to the other neighbor's house to get his truck removed, the blue truck and the sweeper took off on its own. >> that bed used to be against the wall. i didn't move anything in there. it pushed the bed about four feet. >> neighbors are now working to board up the hole in the house, the guest room, for the family to help them out. workers statewide must take furloughs but that still doesn't seem to be enough to
