remember 9/11. >> whatever they are doing in pigtown, find out how all eyes are on the streets to make sure everybody stays safe. a vak and old barn burns in ellicott city and firefighters want to know how this happened. all those stories are just ahead. good morning. thanks for joining us this friday morning. >> yeah a little bump on the head for justin berk while helping a friend move. >> see that's why you don't help friends move. >> so justin's on the d.l. here. >> we hope he's okay. meteorologist susan shrack's in with the weather. >> thanks a lot. good morning, everyone. it is a rainy, dreary start for your friday. there you can see maryland's most powerful radar showing a storm that's just off the coast bringing the rain back inland. we'll be stuck with it throughout most of the day. here's what we collected so far just since midnight. it's been heavy rain. that rain will lessen in its

intensity as we head into the day. we're looking temperature-wise around 57 degrees this morning, not too much movement by noon. we're only up to 60 degrees, possibly as high as 68 for us this afternoon and expect scattered showers and rain throughout the day. let's check out the roads now. here's kim. >> we have slippery conditions and reduced visibility this morning as we look at southbound 95 at the white marsh area. a little at reduced speeds. it is really slick out there. be careful. we have several accidents around the area we're working on the outer loop in overlea. the two right lanes remain on the way. 495 at arbutus that is on the scene. getting word of a new crash southbound on the jfx. so definitely use caution this. as we check here at the jfx at northern parkway, traffic is moving along good and the rain is pouring on down. one traffic area that will be

an issue in the next couple of hours will be downtown baltimore in federal hill. that's where the run to remember 5k race is about to get underway. linda so is live with more. linda? >> reporter: good morning. we're right in front of city hall. this is where the race will get started later this morning at 7:00. take a look at this map because traffic will be an issue. the 5k run starts on fayette runs down key highway and finish at federal hill. the mayor will be here to ride her bike alongside the runners. the run to remember raises money for baltimore's police and fire department. proceeds from this year's race will help support the mounted police unit. this is the route. they start here on fayette street head to preston then around the harbor and on to key avenue. you can expect delays as runners make their way along that route.

linda so, abc 2. here's a look at what else is happening on this september 11th, 2009. mainer sheila dixon will speak at the community outreach effort to educate residents about energy efficiency and also assistance programs. the stadium field at north carroll high school will be named powellson field after athletic director ed powellson. that will take place during halftime at the varsity soccer game versus catholic high. back in june, we told you about this story. we highlighted the washington village association's effort to fight crime in their neighborhood. they had had it. the wvba posted video on youtube highlighting drug dealers in their area. a couple of weeks later, all but one have been arrested and charged. >> the pigtown's most wanted video did the trick. three of the four alleged drug

dealers that we highlighted on our pigtown's most wanted video on youtube have been arrested. they are facing serious charges. two haven't been seen in pigtown. >> the association says they'll continue to make videos like the most wanted until the entire criminal element is forced out of pigtown. you know it's something that the governor has been pushing for. now he's getting a little extra help. 16 other governors are now joining him in support of a prison cell phone jamming bill. the governor says thousands of illegal calls are being made by the prisoners each year enabling them to plan and coordinate crimes. here in maryland, a high profile murder was ordered from a cell phone in prison. a building that dates all the way back 200 years is a pile of rubble this morning in howard county. today, investigators want to know how the whole thing started. nothing is left near ellicott city's main street.

firefighters say it may have had electricity in the past but it's been vacant for about ten years. >> 20 by 30 foot structure. it was an old black smiths barn in the 1800s. >> reporter: there were no injuries that were reported. he was 17 years old when his life was turned upside down because of a bad decision. brandon was a high school senior when he crashed his car and almost died. he got behind the wheel after drinking at a party and ended up in a coma and had to undergo years of rehab. you see him in the video speaking to students at mount st. joe's yesterday about the dangers of drinking and driving. >> brandon made that bad choice that night about drinking and driving, and he'll pay for it the rest of his life physically. college was -- all of the plans that he ever worked so hard for disappeared that night. they were completely over. >> brandon and his father travel around the country encouraging other teenagers to make the right decisions and

don't drink and drive. >> you see the students' reaction? they were just hanging on every word. for anyone who has a pet, separating from them you know can be hard sometimes. >> it's like giving up your child. >> but reuniting can be so nice. especially after being away from them for months. we have a reunion certain to warm your heart on this dreary morning. before you head out, wherever you are going, here's susan shrack. >> good morning. let's look at maryland's most powerful radar there. you can see the storm is just offshore and spreading that rain back to the west across the state of maryland and across delaware. as far as temperatures, we're in the mid-50s, so it's going to be a chilly one as you head off to the bus stop. cloudy, windy, and rainy today. grab your umbrella and maybe a sweater. check out the mta. here's mark jones.

is bound to weaken as we go through the day. look at the rain totals thus far. this is been since midnight. again that rain rate should be slowing down in the intensity. as far as wake-ups, we're looking at 57 degrees, around 60 by noon. again, rain and showers throughout the afternoon hours. 68 degrees is probably all the higher we're going to get as we head into the afternoon hours temperature-wise. let's look at the roads now. i'm sure they are not so good. here's kim. >> not so good at all. traffic is okay here. you can see traffic starting to build southbound a little bit. keep in mind that the roads are slick. there is reduced visibility, probably ponding on the roadway. so things are treacherous so use caution. we still have that crash 695 at bel air road. it's been cleared almost to the right shoulder but you'll see police activity on the scene. the inner loop at the jfx

eastern shore saw it on the overnight hours. now everyone is seeing it. the rain amounts have varied. we've been seeing about a half inch to an inch as far as baltimore and eastern toward the eastern shore. west of baltimore has been significantly less. however that rain is spreading. you'll see it heading on in throughout the day today. this storm will be weakening, shearing apart and we'll see the intensity and amounts lessening as we head through the day. 70 today, cloudy with rain and it's going to be windy. for tonight, that rain continues. we're tapering off in just shower activity. as we head through the next seven days, things are still a little touch and go as we head through the day on saturday. sunday looks a whole lot better, and check out monday and tuesday, even into wednesday we're looking at lots of sunshine and return back up to the 80s as we head into the early part of next week. let's check out the roads now. here's kim. >> reporter: thanks, susan. don't forget you can follow me on twitter on

twitter.com/maryland traffic. you can see traffic is starting to build as you approach the 695 and 895 split. the roads are very slick. it's treacherous driving conditions so use caution. we have a crash off to the sholder that's getting attention on the outer loop at bel air road this. it's off to the shoulder but drivers are starting to slow. so use caution there. on the inner loop of the jfx, we have a disabled vehicle. southbound at north avenue, the crash blocks the two left lanes there. that's causing a bit of a delay this as well. southbound at the split is a crash there as well. you can see the rain is pouring down and traffic is moving decently in both directions. who needs bart scott when you have bart the puppy? aleen gabey from the maryland spca brought him in today. he's up for adoption. asides from him being a little nutty, tell us about himp. >> 's coming into his own

personality. he's about eight to ten weeks. shepherd mix is our guess. he has a lot of energy. someone who has time and patience. he is a smart guy so he should learn quickly. >> and he's teething right now as puppies do. >> and how. >> one interesting thing you brought up about puppies, though. you guys give them baby food. what's that all about? >> i actually brought some of the bottles of what we use. it's gerber level 2. we love to get the little meat kind. it helps if we have baby puppies or kittens who aren't eating on their own very well. maybe they don't have their mom with them. this is a way to encourage them to eat because we want them to be healthy and gain weight. we tried this and it seems to work well. the meat varieties are what work. we don't want strained peas or anything like that. they're just not interested. it also is nice for older pets when may not be feeling withle. they need to eat and hydrated,
