eight years ago it was just another morning, just another day september 11th. the 8:46, we all changed and today we remember. it is a sloppy day to talk about the swine flu but we may only need one shot to fight it off. remember the show "the wire" painting baltimore with a hard brush but this time we're getting rewired. those stories and a lot more coming up. >> let's take a look at the weather for the day. >> lots of rain out there. it's dreary. ing see the wet streets downtown. looking at 57 degrees relative

humidity. we had the it a's spreading rain across most of the state. it's been raining hard on eastern shore all night. we're looking at 57 degrees. look agent rain and showers throughout the day. check out the roads. here's kim. >> reporter: a sloppy commute. traffic is running below speeds. there are several accidents to report. reisterstown road and 67, one in the left lane and one accident in the right lane. the outer loop between wilkins avenue and 95, that crash is blocking a lane causing delays in the area. northbound 95 between washington boulevard and russell street, there is a crash reported in that area as well. as we look at the jfx and northern parkway, traffic appears to be moving well in

both directions. back to you. at first, we didn't know what was happening. we couldn't believe it. we remember where we were. we remember the first call that we made. we remember how scared we were. >> september 11th is what we're talking about eight years ago today. hard to believe changing the skyline of new york city and changing our lives forever. sherrie johnson joins us with more. sherrie? >> reporter: good morning. there will be many ceremonies but across the country thousands of americans found their own way to mark this anniversary. from ground zero to the pentagon, it is a day of solemn remembrance. at the world trade center site, a massive steel column. the last one standing has been returned. in boston, where two of the planes started at eight days eight years ago, a high school senior honored victims with 3,000 flags. in new jersey, home to 700 of the victims. people come to the meadowland where's a duel pier symbol -- a

the wvda posted a video on youtube highlighting four accused drug offenders in the area. a couple of months later, all but one had been arrested and charged. the group says it'll continue to make videos like the most wanted until the entire criminal element is forced out of pigtown. it is 6:34 right now. he was just 17 years old when his life was turned upside down because of a bad decision. brandon was a high school senior when he crashed his car and almost died. he got behind the wheel after drinking at a party. he ended up in a coma. he spoke to students about the dangers of drinking and driving. >> brandon made that bad choice that night about drinking and driving. i'll pay for it the rest of his life physically. you know, college was -- all of the plans he ever worked so hard for disappeared that night. they were completely over. >> reporter: brandnd and her father -- brandon and his

. oh, man. she's a woman and a man. the gender of this runner makes big news this friday morning. it is september 11th. just saying it brings the memory back of where you were eight years ago as we remember the anniversary of 9/11. we are just minutes away from the race to remember as we get set for friday, september 11th. good morning. >> thanks for joining us this morning. i'm megan pringle. >> i'm jamie costello. here's meteorologist susan shrack. >> reporter: good morning, everyone. it is a wet and rainy one out there. it could be on the dangerous side. this is in north baltimore. this is just shot by our overnight photographer pete on the street o'neil. you can see drivers have to take it very slowly. that's just a word of caution if you are going to be out and good in the next couple of minutes actually. if you step out the door, heavy rain. it's going to taper off as we head into the next couple of

hours. it's already starting to pond on the roadways. taking a look at the conditions outside at this hour. we're looking at a temperature 57 degrees. relative humidity 100%. wind is out of the north- northwest at 8 miles per hour. this is why we have all that rain. there's a big storm off the coast spreading the rain shield all the way back into the central part of the state, now even into the western portion. as far as rain amounts so far, we've been seeing the most of it on the eastern shore seeing almost an inch and a half of rain since midnight. three-quarters of an inch in baltimore. a little less than that over a tenth of an inch to baltimore. that storm will be tearing apart, shearing apart, rather, as we head through the next couple of hours. for tonight, we're looking at 63 degrees showers and breezy. for today, we're looking at cloudy, rain and on the windy side. here's kim. >> reporter: three words to describe the commute this morning. soggy, slippery, and slow as we

look at the west side of the outer loop. traffic is slowing at liberty road. that will remain slow all the way down to i-25. we're still working several crashes around the beltway. you can get the complete list of crashes at twitter.com/maryland traffic. 695 at reisterstown road. both crashes have been cleared to the respective shoulders causing delays on both the left and right-hand side. the crash has been cleared from the left lane over to the left shold person southbound 83 at pa tone doan ya -- padonia road. northbound 95 between washington and russell street has also been cleared to the shoulder. as we check the jfx, traffic moves nicely in both directions. jamie and megan, back to you. it was 8:46 a.m. eight years ago. >> we never forgot the images of the day. sherrie johnson has more on september 11th's anniversary. sherrie? >> reporter: everyone remembers where they were when the terrorist attacks happened on september 11th. it's one of the darkest days in u.s. history. today, many people mark the anniversary from ground zero to the pentagon. a day of solemn remembrance. a massive steel column, the last one standing has been returned a symbol of rebirth. and in boston where two of the planes started that day eight years ago, a high school senior honored victims with 3,000 flags. in new jersey, home to 700 of the victims, people come to the meadowland where's a dual pier symbolized the towers. >> they went into a building to go to work. they lost everything. >> i observed people crying. i observed people just with the solemn faces coming through here. it's so important for us not to forget what happened.

>> reporter: in washington, president barack obama will observe a moment of silence at 8:46 this morning. he 'lay a wreth at the pentagon memorial. now let's head over to linda so with how locals mark the anniversary with a race. >> reporter: they raised the flag for the run to remember. we're here at the corner of gay and fayette streets right in front of city hall. this race is about to get underway. right now, they are remembering the victims of 9/11. this rain is not stopping these runners from coming out to show support. this race again start as 7:00 this morning. let's take a look at this map because traffic will be an issue this morning. the 5k run starts on fayette street runs down key highway and will finish at federal hill. this is the fifth year for the race and hundreds turned out in the past. the run to remember raises money for baltimore's police and fire department. proceeds from this year's race will help support the mounted police unit. again, this race is about to

get underway. it starts at 7:00 this morning. the runners will start at fayette street, go around the inner harbor, then on to key highway and the race will end on ford avenue. if you are driving on the city this morning, you can expect delays along that route. live in downtown baltimore, linda so, abc 2 news. >> since you woke up, you have been sending your thoughts to abc2news.com. i want to read some from 9/11. bill rykoff was doing the news and he said after his shift, he went to his car and bawled like a baby. the national air guard was on high alert. shelly was taking a financial class. all of a sudden the cell phones started going off and people one by one started getting up and running right out of the classroom. will was going to the arundel mills mall and saw all of the planes coming into bwi one after the other. he had a sense something was

up. so 9/11. of course "good morning america" will have this covered coming up this morning at 7:00. meantime, you can leave your comments on abc2news.com so feel free to do that either on facebook, our web site, or twitter. in other news of the morning, pete on the street o'neal was on the scene of this shooting. witnesses say a man was shot to death in the 3200 block of bel air road near erdman avenue around 2:00 this morning. he was rushed to the hospital but died on the scene. police have not made any arrests. police continue to look for suspects in two shootings that heart three people in north baltimore. it could be connected. it happened at york road. this happened about quarter to 9:00 last night. two men were shot, one died and the others hurt. then just a short time later, we had a third shooting victim show up at the fire station at loch raven boulevard at the alameda. police say they are still trying to piece this all

together. this man somehow involved in the other shooting. they just don't know right now. a national controversy with roots here in baltimore. acorn, caught on camera, giving advice to people on how to cheat on their taxes. the undercover video was posted on youtube and biggovernment.com, fox news broke the story, two conservative bloggers posed as a pimp and prostitute and got advice claiming underaged al salvadorian sex workers as dependents. this morning, baltimore acorn is in defense mode firing the two part-time employees on the tape and questioning the motive behind the timing release of the tape leaked within day after president obama's address to congress. >> there was nothing done where acorn took any type of moneys from them. there was nothing that we found that was done illegal. we don't know whether it was

cut, dubbed, splitioned, we don't know. >> we also learned the pair attempted the same act in los angeles, new york and philadelphia but were turn add way. as far as the taping being illegal in maryland to record someone's voice without his or her permission. acorn may be pursuing legal action as well. they were on "the wire "and are using the show to save kids. the cast members started a nonprooft called rewired for change. the group identified troubled young kids and uses a media- based program to help turn their clives around. >> -- their lives around. >> they use television as an escape. when they see something that reflects their own issues and lives, they really connect. so we use that as an

opportunity to escort them towards change. >> the first class of graduates was acknowledged and the program will expand from 6 to 12 weeks in the fall. they hope to eventually expand all across the country. to your health now. we're talking more information this morning about the swine flu vaccine. according to the american and australian researchers on this the vaccine is strong enough to protect an adult with one shot. the data also shows it takes about eight to ten days for the vaccine to take effect. owe fishes are reminding people they still need to get the regular flu shot come october. also when the h1n1 vaccine is supposed to be ready. meantime, an important change in howard county regarding your flu shot. instead of holding its seasonal flu clinic in november, they are moving it up in a month. the date change is to avoid confusion and overlap of the
