are you with us? >> i am. i'm not mistaken you were born and raised in done dock is that correct? >> that's correct. what can you tell us about the area that's affected at this point? a lot of homes there, right? >> a tremendous amount of homes. one of the oldest african- american turner station in right there. that logan village shopping center used to be the logan field airport. there are tremendous amount of homes where the areas are out -- there is water covering the cars. electricity is out in the entire done dock neighborhood. everywhere where i have contact with.

burning highway is a major thoreau fair to get to the key bridge. across from there is the dundock marine terminal, as well. >> greg, we should mention as you are talking norm is manning the map situation. the key bridge, as we understand it, is an area commuters and everyone else will want to avoid. we have heard they are using part of the offramp as a staging area. that area might be closed off at this point. this whole stretch of dundock avenue around burning highway by the marine terminal is closed down. you cannot get anywhere in there. have you talked with anyone in the dundock neighborhood yet or heard anything about rescues? >> i have called a couple neighbors. everybody's just worried about how far this water going to reach. no, we have not heard of anything about rescues. another thing to point out is the maryland transportation

authority headquarters is right down there, as well. that is their main headquarters right there on burning highway right by the key bridge and by that area that is completely flooded. this is serious. that's a huge thoroughfare for trucking with the port being there. this is going to have a lot of impact. this is huge. i have never seen anything like this ever. >> hurricane isabelle was in 2003. this very month the southern part of that area of dundock was greatly affected by that hurricane. >> i'm sure. >> this could rival that. >> well, it certainly looks like it is rivalling that. the water levels are so high, this is incredible. i can't get over the amount of

homes where the water level is so high you are only seeing the tops of cars. it is amazing. >> we are getting in more information. beg is reporting 1,000 power outages at this point. i'm guessing that number will go up. >> my home is out as well. >> we are told the watermain is a 72-inch water main. a very major water main for that area. it is just flooding the streets. cars are lost. i mean, who knows what the damage is going to be to all those houses in the area. of course, the main concern right now for rescue crews is making sure that everyone is getting out. it appears this happens so suddenly that i can't imagine anyone was able to make any preparation of any sort. >> i can't imagine either. i'm sitting here thinking what in the world i should do. water has not reached my home yet. protection of pictures that are important to us. moving the cars out of the way.

things you should do in preparation. wondering if the water level gets that high and moves forward, because we are not that far from there, what then? >> we had story later on in this newscast about revitalization in dundock. i know you have been active in preserving that charming neighborhood in which you live. then to see something like this it is a set back for the area. >> it really is. dundock gets a bad wrap. it is unwarranted. it is a wonderful place to raise your kid. it is a great neighborhood. really good people. they take care of their homes. they take care of their families. it is a terrific place. this is a shame. now, i haven't seen the revitalization that jim smith promised us but i'm hoping at some point we will. this is a real set back. >> this is going to be difficult. we are going to get some information from other sources right now. i want to thank you so much for calling in. if you get any other information please feel free to call us back and share with us

what you know. we really appreciate your insights on this area. i know you know it so well. >> my pleasure. many people in dundock watch wmar, we appreciate you guys covering this so well. >> i hope all those people are safe tonight. kelly is joining us now. we mentioned that the logan village shopping certain, which is an area there was greatly affected. >> reporter: i just got off the phone with a young lady that works the cash register in box and save in the logan village shopping cente . she says at 4:00 this afternoon the water came gushing out of nowhere. they had no idea. she says the electricity is off. she said the flooding there is intense. i asked her about how deep is the water? she said four feet high. >> i believe she is on the telephone with us right now. is that right? >> yes. talked on the phone. when we

what happened around 4:00 this afternoon? >> we all looked out the window. we see all this water coming down the mountain. well, like the grass. it came all the way down the highway. it started flooding into our parking lot. everyone was moving their cars. it is really deep out there. >> now tell me how you said you lost electricity. when did all that happen? >> that happened like ten minutes after. they said they turned it off so we wouldn't get electrocuted. >> what can you see in the area right now? people aren't milling around are they? >> they evacuated everyone from the parking lot. policeman and a helicopter, there is firefighters everywhere there is a whole bunch of people watching. >> it is mary beth. thank you for joining us. can you describe where are you right now? are you in the box and save? >> yes, i'm in box and save. i'm the manager of the store so

we are in here figuring out stuff. >> is the water coming in through the door. >> not yet. it is hitting the curb. >> you are there at ground zero. >> yes. >> i would imagine there was no warning what so ever. you just saw it gushing? >> it went off the bypass into dundock avenue. >> everyone in the shopping center, are they evacuated? >> yes, there is people standing down the street on both ends. there is a budge of policeman. >> do you see any boats? >> not right now. >> do you think there will be a neat for a boat rescue for the people at your shopping center and may be trapped? >> no. not right now. they had people getting the fire engines and going down the street. but they said that down further towards turner station there is a van covered with water.

>> in fact the water is running downhill. >> yes. >> are you from the area? >> no i'm from ann arundel county. >> i'm guessing you have never seen anything like this. >> they are telling us it was a 72-inch main that broken. it is affecting that entire area. are there any homes in the area around the shopping centers? or a large residential area? >> yes, this other girl that works for us park her car in front of her aunts. they said that road is flooded right now, too. they are not letting people in their homes, either. >> has anyone come to talk with you? >> not yet. >> reporter: they indicated that they were evacuations. you see any people outside? >> yes, when this all happened, and it came into the parking lot, there was still people in the store. we had to evacuate them out. then the police officers evacuated them from the shopping center. >> do you think anyone might be

stuck in here car in the parking lot? >> reporter: they talked about water rescue. >> not here. but probably down the street where the van is covered. >> i think the water is running by you into the neighborhoods behind you now. i would imagine you see a lot of business from the marine terminal. nobody is getting out of there, i would imagine. >> no. >> we have been told that the water is waist deep or chest-high in the port way area. you can see that there on the map. >> is that far from you? >> no. it is actually if i walked out there with no socks it would probably come past my ankles. >> kara, while we are speaking with you, we are waiting to get some cell phone video coming from people who are down there and we can give you a better idea of what's happening behind you.

in case you are just joining we want to recap our breaking news, big news of the day. there is a water maine break. 72-inch main broken in dundalk in eastern baltimore county. the break is at dundalk and done haven. you are look at cell phone video from a manager working in the box and save. she describes it as looking so much worse now. to give you a sense of what it is like, this water is continuing to rush through that area and heading south toward the water's edge neighborhood and streets all around that area are absolutely flooded right now. there are cars under water.

vans under water. you can barely see street signs. trees and houses. this is a major catastrophe for the area. >> as water flows it starts hitting things like cars and trees and houses so it starts backing up. that's the reason it is getting deep. it is flowing in the bay. it is not like it is a river running in one direction. it is making the water back up. it still continues to flow. 72 inches you are talking about a six foot in diameter pipe. >> this is across from the marine terminal. brown highway has buckled under the pressure of the water. this is going to be a major problem for a long time. browning highway and dundalk avenue are big roadways. >> for people just getting this information can we call the map up? >> we don't have the map.

>> we'll go back to the map. if you know people who live in that area behind the logan village shopping center call them. we have heard that rescue crews are out there looking for people who might be trapped. this is the kind of incident that has no warning what so ever. it happened quickly. the area flooded. right there at dundalk and done haven road. there is burning highway. to the left is the marine terminal. to the right hundreds of house s. >> a lot of people are trapped on their lots because they cannot get off because the water is completely surrounded them. the house is highier in some instances. but many houses have water running in them now. >> there will be many cars, if there is a car in the area my guess is it is absolutely lost. >> the good news is that the weather is cooperating. we finally got the showers out

the coastal flood advisory for the delaware area and the maryland beaches. it remains in effect until 8:00 for the baltimore area. temperatures 77 degrees. 75 york. 83 hagerstown. remember i said it would be a slow start? it was in fact a slow start with clouds and light drizzle. then things started to clear up. a larger view of the shower activity associated with the the area of low pressure continues to pump out moisture into the carolinas. scattered showers in the region. they have had a lot of rainfall. across the area, no precipitation. we are not looking for any until tuesday the way things are looking. 77 glen burnie and rock hall 76 degrees. here's your forecast. tonight a few clouds down to the south. basically a lot of sunshine across the region.

flooding all the neighborhoods behind behind the logan village shopping center. cars are under water. person belongings under water. basements will be flooded. this is happening around dunhaven road across from the marine terminal and south. all the neighborhood behind dunhaven and dundalk avenue around that area. you can hear people talking in the background. they can't believe what they are seeing. the woman who shot this video saw the main break and saw the water gushing up by burning highway and dundalk avenue and watched the road buckle. it is a huge mess. there are rescue crews out making sure no one is trapped. also around the key highway area onramp, which we have been told is being used as a staging area will be backed up. we have crews on the way to the scene. we'll come back to this stor . we'll take a quick break. cover some of the other news of

hello. i'm terry owen. we are following breaking news out of dundalk and southeast baltimore county has left an entire community under water. this break occurred outside of the marine terminal. it started around 4:00 this afternoon. water has been gushing into the surrounding community every since. you are not looking at a live picture from a mass cam shot that we have up. you can see the water gushing out of the area there. i believe that's brown highway or dundalk avenue. we are told it is a 72-inch water main
