because of the baltimore book festival. that remains in effect until monday afternoon no real problems at this time. as you head to work today keep a baltimore city police officer in your thoughts. he is in critical condition after he was shot several times. we know that this officer was off-duty when at least two men tried to rob him. >> reporter: good morning. an off-duty police officer is in the intensive care unit in morning after she was shot duringed an attempted robbery. it happened after 10:00 last night in the 6,000 block of high gate drive in northwest baltimore. police officer say the officer was about to walk into his home when at least two men, armed with guns tried to rob him. a gun battle broke out between an officer and man. during the shooting the officer was hit multiple times in critical condition. neighbors were shocked about by this attack. >> i have been here seven

years. never had nothing like this. >> reporter: authorities are talking to two people interested in this case. baltimore county police department is mourning the loss of one of their own this morning. 32-year-old jason simons died yesterday after a traffic accident in the 3500 block of black rock road. the seven-year veteran was offduty driving to work. he was heading east in his chevy s-10 pickup when he lost control on the wet road. his truck flipped over trapping him inside. he worked in the towsend precinct and leaves behind a 6- year-old child. there is good news to report about in baltimore county this morning. a teenager who had been missing earlier this week is home safe. she was last seen on monday. family members had been posting

pictures of monica around towsend. even complete strangers posted appeals for help on facebook. the 14-year-old has been found safe. she is home with her family this morning. let's take a look at what's happening today september 25th. son of a nigeria diplomat accused of a brutal gang rape is scheduled to appear in court today. mayor sheila dixon in baltimore will launch a smaller way to get there in north harbor east. for all of you holiday countdowners we are three months away from christmas. get your wish list together. baltimore's own shining star anthony doing great things for his college alma mater. he was in syracuse yesterday to cut cut the ribbon for the basketball center. he spent $3 million to get the

there is such going on this weekend. you'll probably want to know what the weather is going to be like. >> we are watching maryland's most powerful doppler radar this morning. we'll get through this friday and talk about the weekend coming up. we are looking at a band of rain. it has been a while since we had to deal with this in the morning hours. puddles out there. unfortunately on a friday morning this is last thing you want to deal with on the last day of the work week. we have heavy rain from 140 taking butler road towards central baltimore county. looks really wet this morning. this for the most part is north of the beltway sliding through hartford county and kent county on the eastern shore. we expect the rain this morning. it is knocking temperatures down in the upper 60s. rain this afternoon. partly sunny back to 72.

conversation. he works as a task officer with the drug enforcement agency to get the money. a 13-year-old baltimore girl is in intensive care this morning with the h1n1. virus in the 8th grade in northeast baltimore. she got sick in school on monday. baltimore sun says the girl was getting stronger yesterday. school system statement said the building will be thoroughly cleaned and according to the health department procedures are in place. cut in california charles manson follower susan atkins who admitted killing actress sharon state 41 years ago has died. atkins who suffered from brain cancer had been in hospice care. judge ruth bader ginsburg

through tomorrow morning. we'll cool things down and bring in the clouds. we are stuck in the 60s tomorrow. rain rolls in tomorrow afternoon through tomorrow night. rain could be heavy midnight through sunday morning. the back edge of the rain may push through here giving us clearing sunday afternoon. morning rain gives way to breezy conditions. we are back to 72 in the afternoon. only 52 tonight. our weekend calls for rain arriving the second half of saturday into sunday morning. given the fact that we have slick roads out there this morning. no real problems to let you know about. traffic is looking good on 95 in both directions as you approach white marsh boulevard area towards the tunnel freeway into fort mckinney tunnel. earlier crash at east seminary avenue has been cleared. that's good news. the you are traveling downtown baltimore through the weekend, knew monday at 4:00 in the morning east mount vernon place at st. paul street will be closed because of a special event downtown.

as we look at downtown this is mlk traffic is quiet at this time. back to you. >> kim, you have to meet dukes. if you have not met him yet come over and touch his ears. he's so soft. he is a senior citizen dog. sent years old. he is part of the lucky seven program so his adoption fee is waived. >> there are wonderful benefits to getting a senior citizen dog. >> he is house broken. he is kind of mellow but he has some pep, which is nice. we have him in our first cage. people see him when they walk in. we try to make him as comfortable as possible. we ask folks to donate to the maryland spca. that's what some of the things are that i have here today. we want to make sure animals are comfortable. people volunteer to donate itemstous. blankets to to keep them comfortable.
