afternoon in southwest ballotmore. authorities say officers working with the fbi safe streets task force on pier ponte avenue were conducting an investigation when a drug deal went bad. >> the suspect was armed. he displayed a weapon and the officers fired in defensive motion. after asking him to drop the weapon. >> the suspect who has not been identified is in serious condition at shock trauma. in west baltimore, a city officer is dragged five blocks by a car. it happened this afternoon on mount street. police are trying to arrest a wanted suspect but he ran and got in a car. an officer tried to grab the keys but the suspect identified as ricky hughes drove off. dragging the officer. another officer fired several shots, knocking out the car's back window. the injured officer is being treated at shock trauma. the commander of baltimore southeastern police district has been suspended. there's no word on why. just that it involves a personnel matter. we're told major roger bergeron's police powers have been taken away and he's been

ordered home with pay. bergeron has commanded the district since 2007 and has been a member of the police force since 1991. baltimore county police need your help finding a murderer. police say 55-year-old rodney lewis was found stabbed to death inside his house late wednesday. it happened in the 9500 block of liberty road and right now police have no motive, no suspect, and few leads. >> see anyone coming out that house between noon and 4, last seen alive at noon and found dead at 4, anything see or hear anything weird, police would love to hear about it. >> call baltimore county police if you have information. tonight authorities say remains found in a wooded area in woodlawn are that of a

missing woman. an autopsy determined mia nichols was killed by a gunshot wound. the mother of three was last seen leaving work on october 28th of last year. police say they've arrested her boyfriend, tyrone webb, jr. and charged him with first-degree murder in the case. police in anne arundel county looking for the person who shot a man as he was sitting in his car around 11:30 last night on monaghan court. police say three gunmen walked over to the car and fired several shots. >> 23-year-old female victim earlier, a short distance away, when approached by three male subject who subsequently fired shots, multiple. shots into the vehicle. apparently struck the male victim. they then drove to the mcdonald's and met police to call police. >> the 30-year-old victim was taken to shock trauma and treated for non-life- threatening gunshot wounds. falling debris from an abandoned building prompted one baltimore city woman to call us after the city failed to secure

the home. how abc 2 woks for you and betty mcknight. >> reporter: the abandoned home on 35 north bent lohan an eyesore more than a decade. this morning it became an emergency situation, now city crews are trying to correct the problem, only after the neighbor called abc 2. >> when i was sleeping this morning and i heard a loud boom. >> that boom came from large chunks of stone and brick that fell from the abandoned home right next door. >> i could have been sitting out, anybody walking by. >> so she called the city but jews posted this notice for emergency condemnation and demolition, citing the falling bricks. a neighbor placed a cone on the sidewalk, but residents say the city did nothing to protect them. >> they need do something about all these houses. it's dangerous. >> i just want something done about the house. >> that's when mcnight called us. and within minutes, a surveyor

was taking pictures of the house and later called in a crew. workers knocked down the loose bricks, eliminating the remaining threat overhead. city housing says no one has paid property taxes and it appears the owners may be deceased. so after fire gutted this home nearly 12 years ago, the city is finally doing more than boarding it up, they're cleaning it up. a spokesperson with city housing says after they complete the necessary paperwork, the ultimate goal is to demolish this dangerous home. dundalk businesses hit by the massive water-main break are getting some hem, the comptroller granting a tax payment extension, now pushed back a month. the new date is now november 15th for withholding tax and november 20th for sales and used tax. those who take advantage the grace period won't, charged

no more free rides! some 15,000 maryland government officials and employees are losing their easy passes. michael bush and mike miller asked transportation officials to terminate the program that allowed state officials and workers to avoid paying for the electronic toll collection service. it's unclear how much the move would save. lawmakers would still be eligible to seek reimbursement for tolls. don't know if students would like this, but president obama and education secretary arne duncan have talked about the idea of longer school days. the goal is to make american students more competitive with their counterparts in other countries who spend more time in the classroom. >> guess what? they're in school nine hours a day. they're in school on the weekends and over the summer. and it's not a new idea. >> maryland school superintendent says she supports the idea. >> the acceleration of knowledge really requires us to
