and a watermain break in baltimore county, going to have gwynn oak avenue closed between windsor mill and woodlawn drive. again, avoid that area if possible. and in crofton, that scratch still there at crofton parkway and east regent park road so use caution there. back to you. 6:31. you knew this was coming. a wave of demand for the h1n1 flu vaccine. overwhelming health officials and the current supply so manufacture problems forced the federal government to revise the amount of vaccine available now. >> in short term in maryland that is what is expected to drastically reduce the number of people that can get their hands on it. roosevelt leftwich has more. >> reporter: there were thousands of them, children and pregnant women and other high-risk folks who needed the h1n1 flu shot. even before the first shot of mist or injection was given on friday baltimore county officials guessed that they would run out. >> we've actually postponed some of our clinics. at this time we had originally

planned for having a clinic on wednesday. however, we don't have any additional vaccine just yet. so we're waiting until that time to postpone it. we prefer to postpone it now. >> reporter: it's the same story across the state. at the heart of the matter are the five companies that make the h1n1 vaccine, they are overwhelmed and distribution is slow. >> that means that there would be many school clinics that won't be able to get started as promptly as we thought. there would be less opportunity for vaccination in large public areas. it will be slower coming and for that reason it's frustrating. >> reporter: phillips says over the past few days the feds have revised the amount of vaccine that will come to maryland. the initial allotment by now was supposed to be between 900,000 and one million doses. the feds will only supply in the short term about 550,000 doses, that's 45% less. and it could be weeks before maryland gets more. there are not only issues with the h1n1 vaccine, the state says it's also starting to run

short of regular seasonal flu vaccine. as distribution and production problems are also starting to cause shortages with that vaccine. >> we, again, are being told this is temporary shortages as far as the distribution and that there's plenty in the pipeline. again, that could be frustrating, i know there have been clinics that have closed because of lack of vaccine for that as well. >> reporter: phillips says many clinics will probably start running out of the h1n1 vaccine this week. as more comes in it will go out to the counties and those that need it immediately. in baltimore, roosevelt leftwich, abc2 news. the state emphasizes the shortages are only temporary and if you're looking for a flu shot clinic in your neighborhood seasonal flu or h1n1, head to abc2news.com. we've posted a link of the state's interactive map which will help you find what you're looking for. president barack obama visited students in our state yesterday an at elementary school. he hook hands in the cafeteria at veirs mill elementary school

story of a puppy rescue. we have it all for you. heard of fiddler on the roof? >> puppy on the roof. thank you for joining us. it's tuesday, we're getting right to the weather with justin. that part wasn't played by topol by the way. 6:44. we have a chill but we're dry. veterans elementary school in ellicott city, still waiting for the cars to come in. some of them may be scraping frost off the windshield at 36 degrees in the heart of howard county. we are looking at basically clear skies, a few clouds did come through overnight. and there may be a couple more skirting through the north side this morning. overall we should see the sunrise which is just about 35 minutes away. we're expecting to have ourselves a mostly sunny day with high pressure in control pushing the chill out. and this large mass of dry weather will push this next storm to our north. we'll occasionally get passing clouds but also be on the warm side of things the next few days. as we head through today we're expecting to have a mostly sunny sky, downtown baltimore, 2-degree guaranteed high of 67. just about normal for this

date. heading north and west maybe a few extra clouds up towards westminster at 64. 65 degrees in parkton on the eastern shore -- on the eastern shore, the warm-up to 68 in easton. tonight, back to 40. we'll talk about the warm-up in a bit. let's check the roads with kim. >> peeking at the beltway, no problems to let you know about so far. traffic is moving about pretty smoothly. this is 695 at the bw parkway, southbound lanes on the righthand side of the screen. traffic is beginning to build with -- but no real problems. keep in mind in baltimore county, we have a watermain break, at gwynn oak avenue between windsor mill and woodlawn drive, that has that intersection closed at this time. just be aware of that. also working a crash in towson, dulaney valley road approaching the beltway, that crash blocks the right lane. i'm getting word it involves a motorcycle. so use caution. in westminster, a crash at route 140 at reese road. back to you. in 1981 baltimorean john ericson had a plan for our mothers and fathers. a nice place with three square

meals, plenty of company with an eye on them to keep them safe. first came charlestown, then oakcrest. now the ericson retirement company has filed chapter 11. you can plame the real estate market. some residents couldn't sell their homes to pay ericson to move into the entire retirement center so the company wants to split its land management side from its purchasing side in hopes of getting out of this mess. to anne arundel county where they are still going back and forth on the arundel mills location for slots. >> this morning it looks like there's a shift in locations. abc2 news linda so is here with a report. >> reporter: since the beginning the idea of putting a slots casino at the mall has drawn a lot of debate. now some county leaders want to move the proposed side to a different location. the county council met last night and introdude two separate bills. one would go ahead with the current plan to allow slots at arundel mills. another would put them in an industrial area near route 32 and 295. in february baltimore's cordish company submitted a bid to

submit a slots parlor outside of runned run. the company says it's not interested in any other site. arundel mills. the chairwoman believes slots should be moved further south to draw in gamblers from virginia but refuses to say in the bill where specifically she wants the slots to be placed. >> anything we do when we're changing zoning classifications surely has to be done as an area. and that's really what both bills do. they talk to specific areas, not specific sites. >> reporter: the county council cannot vote on either zoning bill until after a public hearing is held. that hearing is scheduled for december 7th. in the studio, linda so, abc2 news. now to something you're only going to see on abc2 news. our overnight photographer pete "on the street" o'neal was on the scene of this fire, that gutted one home and caused damage to a second here on weldon avenue in north baltimore 2:30 this morning. fire investigators say that one man escaped from one of the

homes. authorities right now still searching for a cause. we're also at the scene of this, cars abandoned, were on fire around 3:00 this morning. this is northeast baltimore. authorities say that someone set three cars on fire in the back parking lot of this service station on belair road and parkmont. no one has been arrested but police now are investigating. it's 6:49. we have a maryland scientist due in court today charged with espionage. 52-year-old stewart david nozin of chevy chase worked for the energy department, nasa and national space council. charging documents reveal he met with someone he thought was an israel anyintelligence official. he told a colleague he was willing to tell them everything he knew including this country's early warning capabilities duringda large-scale -- during a large-scale attack. >> he had access to extraordinary information. they don't walk around with "spy" on their forehead. they relate to you everyday, they carry out the deception.

when it happens it's a employee, it's a shock. even for trained counterintelligence officers. >> this man once credited for discovering water on the south pole of the moon going down as a man apparently willing to sell out his country. new information released in the death of former raven steve mcnair. we can now read text messages but we also learn of another girlfriend of mcnair's. text messages from july show that saheh kazemi asked mcnair to transfer $2,000 to her bank account just before she shot him and herself. there's videos showing her meeting him at the condo where she was shot to death. the latest on the johns hopkins university student killed in a deadly hit-and-run. this happened near campus. police in baltimore say that the family of the driver who struck and killed miriam frankl told them that he would turn himself in to police but so far that hasn't happened.

police found the pickup truck on saturday but not the driver. a memorial service for miriam frankl is expected to be held on campus but arrangements haven't been finalized. we have a baby food recall to warn you about. plum organics is pulling its apple and carrot portable pouch baby food from the shelves. over concerns of possible botulism contamination. the product did not meet fda guidelines. leaving it vulnerable to contamination so the food was sold at toys "r" us and babies "r" us and parents, throw away the pouch immediately. we have a new poll out that suggests more and more of you are worried about losing your current health care coverage. as the health care debate nears the senate floor a poll by the robert wood johnson foundation finds conflicting views of the plan. 1/3 of the respondents are worried about losing coverage in the next year. they share they are worried about going up by 11 percentage points since the spring. you remember this story of the baby who was denied health

insurance because he was considered overweight? now a family in colorado is having a similar problem because their daughter doesn't weigh enough. 2-year-old islin bates, just 22 pounds which is small for her age but her family says she's perfectly healthy, despite notes from doctors, united health denied the little girl health coverage. >> it really is discouraging and frustrating because, just because a child is above the 95 percentile or below the 5th percentile, sunt mean they are unhealthy, it just means they are a different body type. she's healthy yet becomes a statistic. there's no reason for her to be the statistic of a non-insured person. >> a spokesperson for united health says that 89% of the people who apply for health insurance are accepted. she said she couldn't talk about the specific case but did say that when evaluating height and weight we typically utilize other factors such as medical records that show evidence of

treatment. now to the latest on the woman who gave birth to eight babies. octomom, nadia suleman. turns out the man who gave her fertility treatments, the doctor, has been kicked out of the american society for reproductive medicine. apparently he has repeatedly violated the group's standards. she said the doctor implanted her with six embryos, that's more than the national guidelines specify. she gave birth to healthy ok tup lets in january. the doctor's expulsion from the society will not keep him from practicing medicine. 6:53. a new federal prescription for medical marijuana enforcements. a junk says pot-smoking patients should not be targeted for federal prosecution in states that allow medical marijuana. by the government's count 14 states including maryland should allow some use of marijuana for medical purposes. the prescription pot business is perhaps most visible in california where the announcement brought relief.

a family here at abc2 has a brand new addition. >> he's so cute. we would like to take credit for him but he's not ours. he belongs to our 9:00 a.m. producer dave, the man you see there. the proud papa, meet andrew charles mccue. at 4:06 of yesterday in the afternoon just after two hours of labor andrew entered the world at 6 pounds 7 ounces. we're still waiting to see how long he is but he is happy and healthy as is mom. this is the first baby for dave and his wife ann. so congratulations to them. we are very happy and we've been waiting for this. he's been so excited, talking about it all the time. >> way to go. let's take this, the last morning, they will never sleep again now for the rest of their lives. let's look at the weather. 6:55. we don't have to hear about the birthing classes anymore either. congratulations to both.
