5:31 am
thoix this morning. it's become a lively spot. abc2news.com, our chat room there. we just want to answer some questions a lot of you have been writing in. someone wrote in a reminder for our area hospitals. how hard it is now. they've been asking constantly for people who have four wheeled drive to come in. earlier this week the ceo ugbbc has been in and he's been driving people in. he borrowed a friend's suv to get nurses and patients and
5:32 am
doctors out of the hospital. >> if you have a 4x4 give it to a the nearest one. karen said don't forget me on dartmouth road. it hasn't been touched and the other one 37th street. that's another one that hasn't been touched. our friend marla has been writing in on abc2news.com. she says she's not going to work. her husband went out and assessed the situation and gave it a thumb's down. that's good because she actually fell on the ice. we are telling people to be careful if you're driving but be careful if you're just stepping outside because it is icy and it might be desieving as more snow falls over the ice. take it easy and be careful. >> scott's out in elers burg. 7.5 inches she just measured and he just called work out. if you could chat with us where you work. he said safety first so he's shutting down his business. >> in the meantime let's send it over to mta's mark jones.
5:33 am
he's going to let us know how it's working. >> there's no more train service and no mta commuter bus service. metro subway operating every 30 minutes. light rail trains are operating every 30 minutes from hunt valley to cromwell including bwi but no ten station service. mobility service is only transporting medical dialysis customers and local buss are providing limited service. for the transit team i'm mark jones. >> we were just checking out abc2news.com and while we were chatting somebody just wrote in. wanting to know what the situation is and to be honest we'll find out with us because i don't know, with apartment complexes, who's responsibility it is to clean the parking lots. a lot say they're accommodating disabled people but what is the case when there's all this snow. who's responsibility is it to clear the walks and sidewalks
5:34 am
and a lot of handicap ramps. we're on it. we'll get an answer for you on the apartment complexes. we'll find out. >> she said after the december storm i was in a neighboring state and their snow removal was horrific compared to our snow removal so we're on top of it. that's good. way to go rob yip. keep chatting with us on abc2news.com. you'll find us. >> in the meantime let's send it over to justin. really you're the guy with all of the answers. >> about the weather i do. my parents were actually down in florida. the glutens for punishment and they drove down from new york to florida and came back on sunday. against my suggestion. want to say first hand they actually sent me video outside of d.c. i-95 had chunks of ice on it. as soon as they crossed into maryland they said it was like a brand new world. they said maryland, the baltimore area, as bad as it was and grant wed got a lot of snow. we really should be grateful
5:35 am
for what we have here. the municipalities have an organization and choreography in place to handle what we get better than our surrounding regions. pennsylvania, virginia, delaware doesn't ox get hit as hard. once you get up to new jersey and new york it depends the local municipalities. i want to say that for any officials watching for my personal family and they drove through sunday and they said hands down the best of the roads in the region after that storm and then we've got to deal with this one. this one is going to be worse across most of the area. jamie elers burg what was the gentleman. >> scott you just mentioned 7.5. this really highlights how tough my job is, not my job but all of our meteorologist' job to put out the snow forecast. elers burg came in at 7.5.
5:36 am
it's not a huge place and there's rolling hills and so at 8.5 inches measured last night. scott has 7.5. needless to say you've got more snow than we have in the city and you're getting more snow now and you're going to get more snow on top of that. a wide ranging tally in carol county where it's colder lineboro 10.4 and some reports pushing foot already in york county, pennsylvania. you head further south we range from that 7 to 10 inches across the north side of carol county. tiny town had 7 inches westminster an older report of 5 inches. waiting for an update of that one as well. a lot of reports are from the official spotters in the national weather service and that's how we can delegate from some people who want to top the list and stick their ruler in a snow drift. it's somewhat legitimate in some areas. inches. randalls town 5. parksville
5:37 am
came in with 3.3. that parkville was last night just before 11:00. that's why i 79 the plus there. i know they turned over from katrina to sleet. likely we have more than that. likely we'll double that. the big gamete comes clamoring down on us as we headed through today as the coastal storm. same story aberdeen. aberdeen as expected you turn to that freezing rain and sleet, want to point out cecil county 7.3. elton at 6. and stevensville had 2.5. you had rain. you will go back to snow. this is maryland's most powerful doppler radar highlighting where we have really heavy stuff. that's really stuff back to our west. the yellow shading. if it's not sleet, this is snow coming down over 1 inch to 20 inchesesp hour. on i-70 and this is pushing
5:38 am
near glen and heading towards elket city. it's going to meet owensville and randalls town probably in the next 10 to 40 mississippi. overall we can see maryland's most powerful doppler radar really starting to highlight where we have that wintry mix and it's tough to delegate because it goes from slow to sleet to freezing rain to snow. all of us will go to snow and we're looking at snowfall totals still on target of my original forecast of 12 to 20 inches. higher amounts north and lower amounts south because of the wintry mix. but what you have on the ground, at least in baltimore we should at least double today and on the eastern shore where you got lighter amounts you will get more and heavy snow may last a little bit longer as the storm cranks and pulls away off of the coast this afternoon. but the main issue, i really think the main issue, regardless of how much you
5:39 am
measure and i know that's just for post parity blizzard warning means three hours and 35 miles per hour sustained winds and snowfall at 1/8-inch an hour. we're going to have that most of the day and winds gusting miles per hour. the snow we've already had from saturday and sunday. the snow we've had from last night. the ice we've had this morning and then the snow on top of that will make this storm worst than any other we've seen this season. this is not grandstanding. this is reality. so please prepare for potential power outages because i expect that. >> abc2news.com there's live chats going on. chris wrote in and said if you're going to the store to get milk and eggs. most of them are out. sounds like chris has been to many stores and had no lucks. >> check the expiration. >> now debbie writes in. she's ticked off.
5:40 am
she lives in bagley avenue. she said no plow has come through. they've called 311 and they're pleading for help to get to work. >> i would be ticked off too. >> scott, runza warehouse who was living in wellers burg he said his warehouse isn't savaged. they're trying to keep their workers safe. that's good, scott, we're glad to hear that. in the meantime, abc2news.com, feel free to hit us up there. let's send it out to cherie who has been linking out of a live truck. >> reporter: now we're in edgewood in hartford county where yes, the snow is still coming down. mixed in with a little sleet here and we're overlooking here route 24 and actually you can see one of the guys here. good morning. you can see one of the guys with the little trucks. they're trying to clear out the parking lots in. that's pretty much what we're seeing on the roadways is
5:41 am
people tackling the parking lots of the businesses here. route 24 still a little snow covered. we see one lane on each side that's been cleared. not in the best shape. this year is edgewood road. definitely looks worse than route 24 there. this is actually very, very slick here and we've actually seen a couple of trucks, plow trucks go by here twice in this time that we've been here but it still looks pretty bad so of course the state highway administration they're tackling the main roads first and they move along to the secondary streets. they have about 470 pieces of equipment between baltimore county and hartford county. crews have been working around the clock, trying to get these roads intact and make them safe for drivers but they do ask that if you don't have to be out, don't come out. this gives them a little more time to work on the roadways and try to make it safe so they're like if they could have a little more time to work on them, they would really appreciate that. reporting live in edgewood, now
