5:16 pm
can eliminate future abuse down the road. >> i imagine some of these are things talking in the schools with the children as well. >> i hope so. we're sucked in by stranger danger making the sensational headlines. 90% comes from when the child knows who the abuser is. so the rare situation is the kid in southwest baltimore, the attempted abduction. the more likely ones are the simms cases and these are neighbors and we've got to talk to them and go through the basic steps so we can come up with a safety plan and figure out what to do there. >> what are the signs as a parent? this child came forward almost a year later. >> right. some of the signs would be if a child is reluctant to go to somebody's house. if something suddenly changes in their demeanor or personality, if they, you know, are having regrets of rebarve -- regreat gets or aggressive behavior. you put them all together and they paint a picture there. you can find a lot more at

5:27 pm
memory, reasoning, planning and visual skills. they found participants did improve on the specific tasks on which they were trained. however, when the subjects were given closely related tasks on which they had not been trained there was no evidence they were able to transfer the skills or effects. researchers argue that without such a transfer there was no true training of the brain. so while doing word or math games, puzzles, teasers, and tests can be fun and stimulating, there's still no conclusive proof that it actually makes you smarter. with this medical minute, i'm dr. timothy johnson. a look back at the life and career of civil rights pioneer dorothy height coming up.
