at 5:30. we begin with breaking news tonight. baltimore city police have made arrests in the murder of a vietnam veteran killed during a robbery attempt at a carryout in waverly. christina schaffer is live at the northern police district with the latest. christian. >> reporter: police commanders wrapped up a news conference here where they announced the two arrests. the victim, 72-year-old charles bowman was a security guard for the afro-american newspaper. he was on his way to work late one night, april 8th and he stopped in the yale brothers carry out to stop for dinner. at that time two armed men went into that store and as bowman turned around, police say he was shot in the chest. the men got away with $13 from another patron. today police have announced they have arrested michael hunter, who is 19 years old and troy taylor who is 18 years.

both of these young men, police say are from the neighborhood, that general area, green mount and 33rd street. hunter was arrested yesterday afternoon by the warrant apprehension task force and then troy trailer turned -- trailer turned himself here at the northern police district. also a second murder close to that location, close to the third street a couple weeks after the murder of charles bowman. police say they do have a lot of good information on that murder. they may be getting closer to an arrest in that one, they say these two men were not involved in that murder. they say the murder of charles bowman was involved with an armed robbery. the murder down on 33rd street had more to do with what they are calling a neighborhood dispute so the breaking news here from this afternoon is that police have made two arrests in the murder of 72- year-old vietnam veteran charles bowman. they are continuing to investigate that case along with the other murder from green mount avenue earlier this month. we are live in north baltimore, christina schaffer, abc2. >> thanks. how does saving $300 sound?

refrigerator or a clothes washer. >> reporter: cash for appliances is a $300 million federal cash incentive program. maryland received nearly 5 1/2 billion dollars of the sum. maryland will offer a $300 rebate for energy star qualified heat pump water heaters and $150 rebate for superefficient clothes washers and a $100 rebate for superefficient refrigerators. >> this will help by reducing the amount of energy customers use, they will save money and ultimately it helps the environment. >> reporter: the cash for appliances program is based on a first come, first served basis. all you have to do is pick up this form right here and mail it in. many stores like best buy are hoping people take advantage of the program. >> all of our energy efficient products are on sale right now as well as the rebates they will get from the state and federal government. >> reporter: thanks to the appliance rebate program, jeanine can feel happy about saving money and saving energy with her new purchase.

in timonium, sherrie johnson, abc2 news. >> 35 states are launched the appliance rebate program. nine states including maryland launched their programs just today. consolation energy has added a hands-on activity to take your child to work today. more than 150 children of the employees helped put together bags for the needy at port discovery. they included toothbrushes to socks. >> we felt it was really important to have part of the day a community service project to teach kids how easy it is to help in the community as well as why they should help. >> the children were able to give back to their community in addition to helping their parents at work. constellation also gave each child a tree to plant in honor of earth day. and even the u.s. navy is going green. they are testing a fighter jet that uses biofuel. the fa18 superhorn net dubbed the green horn net -- the navy

there, nor to northeast and a couple of light showers moving their way out of the north and east, bel air, maybe a little bit of light rain there. inner harbor, we want from a clear sky to increasing clouds right now. may see a brief passing shower but again it won't be much and it will quickly end. 72 degrees, west-southwest wind 13 miles per hour. humidity actually rather low and i want to show you through the day today how the weather changed. look at that blue sky early on. then in the afternoon, see storm clouds, then clearing, then a few more clouds rolling in so back and forth we go and a very similar scenario as we go into the day tomorrow. temperaturewise, this is the positive side of things. 72 not bad for baltimore and dulles. couple degrees above average. 68 in dover, cooler from patuxent river back through atlantic city, those spots in the low 60s right now. scattered showers across

primarily pennsylvania. this cool front, the boundary where the cool air is lined up kind of edging its way about halfway into pennsylvania, it's much cooler back up into northern ohio. the boundary staying north of maryland, so we are still in the warm air but we are getting those peppering of showers and even a brief thundershower at times because it's unsettled. when that boundary is so close by, it can create some unsettled weather out ahead of that cool front and that's what we are seeing but we don't expect the cool front to make it through. if anything, i think it's going to back up and retrograde a little bit into the great lakes. warm air will hold on the next couple of days. as we work into the afternoon, we will get the instability going and the chance for a few showers. the better chance for rain coming in not tomorrow which looks mainly dry but on saturday, scattered showers and storms possible in the afternoon and the main batch of rain holding off until sunday and monday. those look like two very wet april days so enjoy it today and for the most part early on
