she pushed the stroller out of the way? >> right. >> reporter: police don't know if she pushed her son out of the way or if it was the force of the accident. family and friends choose to believe the former saying maldonado was great with her own child and others. for now, that is giving them some comfort as we were there when baltimore city police just this afternoon had to inform them of what happened. a translator was on hand for the newly single father who speaks no english but the reaction on his face was not lost in translation. crash investigators don't know why this pickup truck hit this woman. >> reporter: meanwhile, police continue to figure out why this happened. the driver did stop and helped maldonado and her child at the scene but charges could still be filed. >> they got to figure out what really happened, what caused him to leave the road or get close enough to where he did strike this woman. then at that point once the case is concluded they will submit that case to the state's attorney's office to have them

review it. >> reporter: but there are bigger questions to answer for a 2-year-old boy who just lost his mother. now, in the arms of a young father who lost his girlfriend. in baltimore, brian kuebler, abc2 news. >> we tried to reach the driver in the accident today at his home in essex but he was not home. since last night it's been off and on rain showers throughout the baltimore area. highlandtown today people were huddled under trusty umbrellas doing whatever they could to beat the raindrops. in mount vernon pretty much the same but the good news, april showers do bring may flowers. new tonight, anne arundel county police are - >> it looks like, as he said, we're looking for the flowers, we're seeing sill light rain on the eastern shore, just watch towards the ocean city area. the light bands are going to keep going across the area. we'll watch nor slight thunderstorms throughout the night. again, that is where we're going to set the tone.

57, currently in baltimore. we tried to get to 60. we should be 70 but we're not there. definitely things are going to warm up. it was a little warmer towards washington, 58 degrees. we got to 64 in culpeper. but otherwise tonight you know it, 51, rain likely possible, thunderstorms, 51 degrees. again, nothing like last night. i will tell you how the rest of the week shapes up in minutes. in anne arundel county, police there are on the lookout for a man considered to be armed and dangerous. police say the suspect opened fire in the parking lot of the super fresh on ritchie highway. it happened around 10:30 friday night. witnesseses say they saw a man with a good shoot a 19-year-old, jump into a four-door car and they say this is the main suspect, 19-year-old louis dewayne edwards jr. no fixed address and police have a warrant on file for various charges. anyone with any information regarding this crime or the suspect is urged to call the northern district police station at 410-222-6135.

also from anne arundel county police are looking for a suspect in a stabbing. it happened in brooklyn park. witnesses say they say a hispanic man run up to his victim and stab him. the suspect is described as in his late 20s with mgm tattooed on his right arm and another tattoo of a gun on his right hip. he was last seen leaving the scene with another man in an older model blue or gray four-door buick. the other victims was not seriously hurt. police believe they have two of the four suspects in custody from the towson home invasion. one guy police are still looking for, that man there, troy traylor of susquehanna avenue. a tattoo of a star on the left side of his neck. police say he and three other men robbed a house last week taking three laptops and playstation. two other suspects, daniel schaefer and dylan fredricksen are already in custody. the identity of the fourth suspect hasn't been released.

forced her to step down as baltimore mayor in february. now maryland state prosecutor announced he'll retire and is moving to florida. today robert rohrbach sat down with jeff hager and looked back at the case that brought her down. he says it was her former boyfriend, megadevelopper ronald lipscomb, who prompted the investigation. he denied giving her gifts but an investigator later tied one of her fur coats back to his company. as for why he agreed to offer the former mayor a plea agreement, he said he couldn't take the chance on the state's liberal courts upholding her conviction. >> at that point she would have only been a suspended mayor. she could have come back, reclaimed her position as mayor, then would have asked the city to repay her legal fees which people estimate to be $1 million to $2 million. >> reporter: he says the investigation uncovered $13,000 in cover cash in her bank account that she's never been able to quite explain. maryland is the first state

to decide that inmates should be residents of the jurisdiction where they last lived and not the communities where the prisons are located. that means baltimore city stands to gain from this. the new law could mean an extra 12,000 residents to help the city's political clout. the legislative lines would be redrawn. urban areas are applauding the decision. those in rural areas that have prisons aren't too happy about it. with the month of may on our door stepcensus workers will soon knock on your door if you didn't send the form back. baltimore county police want everyone to be cautious when a stranger knocks on your door. here's some things to do to check. first, check on the person's id. workers will be wearing census bureau badges with their signatures on it and expiration date in full view. census takers will be carrying shoulder bags with the word "census 2010" logo on it. at no time are they allowed to invite themselves into your home. expect them to be in your neighborhood starting in may and run through july.

the deadline for returning the form has passed. some people may have turned in the wrong forms and may not know it. abc2 news joce sterman explains why a special census from a maryland company is confusing some people. >> reporter: it's been weeks since the census forms went out en masse with 10 simple questions for every american to answer. but this is not the only census some people have received. >> consumers were confused as to whether or not the brochure they received, if that was part of the real census or not. >> reporter: according to the better business bureau the senior census forms have been circulating. they look official but if you look at the print on the back the surveys are from the council of seniors, a lobbying and advocacy group based in frederick. >> the consumer might mistakenly complete this survey and not the official one. >> reporter: that's why the bbb is warning people about this survey which includes questions about everything from your gender and age to how you

video game violence has concerned parents at odds with free speech advocates but never before has the supreme court stepped in. that has changed thanks to a california law that the video game industry says is unconstitutional and the high court ruling could change the way games are sold and nationwide. karen explains in today's "consumer watch." >> the video game industry calls it censorship. california calls it child protection. now the supreme court will decide whether the state's law banning the sale of violent video games to children violates the constitution. and it's a decision other states will be watching closely. governor arnold schwarzenegger signed the law in 2005. banning the sale or rental of excessively violent games, that feature depiction of killing, maiming or sexual assault to anyone under 18. retailers could be fined up to
