where you're actually watching from. we've seen storms from northern baltimore county into cecil county. this is for basically all of maryland except for the lower eastern shore, it's going to run through 10:00 tonight unless they change that. maryland's most power fal radar will be tracking the storms. things clearing out for the moment but if you look well off to the left of the part of your screen, you see another cluster of storms. we'll see if those come down our way. the only cell of concern right now is moving through northern cecil county north of rising sun. looks like it will to be brookside in 20 minutes. we'll keep an eye on this and talk about how things shape up for the first full days of fall. they come up tomorrow and friday. it looks hot. we'll have it coming up. hundreds of hartford county school students received excused absences from class today to

quarters with antibottics and inhaler. it may take up to six months before he gets the autopsy report on his son's death. the man accused of killing an offduty maryland state trooper this year was in court today for preliminary hearing. cyril williams faces murder charges. brown was gunned down outside a restaurant in june, another man, anthony milton the second also faces murder charges in the case. police have said the trooper was working as an a-security officer. a columbia man accused of stabbing and killing his ex-wife and setting her apartment on fire is now in police custody. howard county police say 35-year-old damon white was arrested and is in jail being held without bond. white is charged with first degree murder, arson an other offenses in the death of 34-year-old thelma wynn. police are asking shoppers

an business owners to be extra vigilant after a rash of daytime robbers. robbers held up merchants in three separatein dents. the gun man in the latest attack escaped with more than $100,000 in jewelry. they are talking with mall security and patrons to get a better description of the suspect. >> we've been partnering very closely with the mall security and the merchants. most important part of investigating the robbery is the video surveillance, so we're educating merchants on what types of surveillance equipment to use and things they can do to help police. >> police say sunday's robbery of the elite gold and diamond fit a pattern of other holdups. a new forensic center for maryland medical examiner's office is open in baltimore. the $54 million facility sits at west borm street. official say it was designed to improve working conditions for employees who investigate the state's 4,000 unexpected deaths each other and they hope to

speed up the autopsy process. animal rights activists are outraged after a judge sentenced a man accused of waetding a dog to death to community service wlachlt makes them even more rang angry is community service it to be performed at an animal shelter. rosy is back with more on this story. >> reporter: police say 48-year-old darren chambers beat a dog so severely on august 6 it had to be euthanized. animal rights activists say it doesn't make any sense to make a man serve community sfrs around other animals. a month later on his attorney's recommendation, chambers was sentenced to 50 hours of xhunlt service at the -- community service at the maryland spca. this outraged the spca who said chambers should have been prosecuted and sent to jail but

the state's attorney said they didn't recommend the sentence at all. they say the evidence that was gathered wasn't obtained legally that they didn't stand a chance of getting a conviction. >> we did not have an eyewitness and we had an anonymous caller and we really had no statement from the defendant, no legally obtained statement. that really short circuited any ability for prosecutors to prove this case beyond a reasonable doubt. >> this was a particularly brutal and callous crime and with so many of these cases come and go, animals being beaten and burned, few of them actually make it to court and in this case there was substantial evidence to prosecutor. we were very disappointed when the state's attorney's office does not prosecute the case. >> spca executive director says there will knob way that chambers will be allowed to do community service at the

offices. burns he said he will have to go back to the judge to see if there's another sentence that can be offered. well, the baltimore business journal reports tonight that a multi million dollar firm is moving its headquarters from richmond to columbia. the corporation makes pumps for the oil and gas industry but it's not known just yet where the company will be in columbia. last year they posted nearly a $28 million profit. it is a breakfast basic but today the egg were on the menu for a chronic shull hearing -- congressional hearing as a result of the salmonella contamination at two farms in iowa. today some of the victims shared their stories with lawmakers. >> i spent 12 hours in the er so sick, they were scared to move me. they thought they were going to have to do emergency surgery because they showed bowels so thick and inflamed, i was put in

and alex accidentally hit a golf ball interest luke's eye at -- into luke's eye at close range. >> it actually ripped the iris from the connection to the sclera. >> his eye was closed and swollen red and bleeding. >> it got all -- it got all blurry and kind of dark. >> i knew he had the most common injury we do see from balls, baseballs, lacrosse balls, golf balls. with the high velocity, basically rupture a blood vessel in the eye and cause a bleed. >> i didn't know how serious the injury was. i couldn't get him to open his eye. >> it's probably the most serious injury a child or adult can incur because it has a lifelong risk for glau coma or

hey, as we close up summer 2010 at 11:00 tonight the hours leading up to that at 10:00, we got all counties in yellow under a severe thunderstorm watch that may come down earlier, we'll see what the weather service decides to say. we have severe thunderstorm thunderstorm warnings up for parts of pennsylvania and counties shaded in red. let's get into it with maryland's most powerful radar. you can see the storm that moved through northern harford county, cecil, basically fizzling out to rain shower activity. coming out wider, another storm of interesting beginning to form in carroll county. you can see basically we're expecting this to continue to move east -- west to east, rather and probably comes over i-83 in areas toward park ton in about 28 minutes or so and as we continue to go forward fit continues to pack ilts -- pack its same strength, jarrettsville

could see in about 28 minutes. i think we have a couple more hours of clear weather at least in the downtown area but there is another cluster of storms diving south, we'll show you those in a second. 88 right now. mount airy, you can see the first cluster coming through. clear skies, nice and blue, then then there's that first round of storms. 93 in frederick for a high today. 91 downtown. you want to ends it on a hot note, you being about how hot summer was. this was one for the record books, all the triple digit days. winds have been out of the south today bringing up that heat and humidity, that helped fuel some of the storms. widely scattered nonsevere storms out toward frederick and more impressive storms here north of the pennsylvania line.

that boundary is going to kind of flirt with the maryland-pennsylvania border but i don't think it's going to come through. paint it as a stationary front, which means it will shift maybe a little bit to the south but it's not going to drive itself through us like a classic cold front would. just the exact opposite. those warm hot south winds are going to keep blowing the next couple of days. we clear out the thunderstorm threat tonight. hot day tomorrow, close to 90. i think definitely into the 90s on friday. and another sunny day with a relatively mild night tomorrow night, it's going to really heat up for friday before finally a cool front will come through and drop temperatures back to seasonal levels for the weekend. >> 68 tonight, scattered showers and storms, some could be strong. severe thunderstorm thunderstorm watch expires at 10. fall starts just past 11 p.m. first full fall day tomorrow, we're almost 90 degrees. and tomorrow night, 67 with a
